People saying there has to be more players from SK is like when people were calling for more players from NK. You can’t just start picking players from areas just for the sake of it if they're not good enough. They're just saying it's a worrying trend. South Kerry has such a rich heritage. The famous lineage of the two Mickos to Jacko to Maurice to Bryan Sheehan. That chain is broken now.

I agree with people it's worrying but as has been said population is the biggest issue with SK and no amount of couching is going to help.
I recall Jack O Connor saying when he became Kildare manger there were more pupils in single schools in towns like Naas than the whole of South Kerry.

The South Kerry Greenway will give a small boost at least. The best hope is probably attracting multinationals to Killorglin, Killarney and Tralee and Listowel and people can commute from South Kerry.

I’m from South Kerry and in a lot of cases my friends are working in these towns but live closer to them for family reasons. Hypothetically speaking if you have a couple where one is from South Kerry and one is from Killarney, for example. They are working in Tralee, Killarney or Killorglin. They are more likely to settle further up the county than in South Kerry.

The modern family with kids wants to be close to amenities like swimming pools, gymnastics classes, cinemas etc etc.
I've yet to see a better vista than the Iveragh peninsula on a sunny day but that doesn't seem to be enough of an enticement for most people. It's remoteness won't change location.

Maybe working from home might encourage some people to live at home.
