What absolutely ridiculous scheduling of this competition by the board. In middle of 4 county league games in 21 days, 2 weeks before leaving cert starts, thereby ruling out a lot of 19 year olds. Pure box ticking exercise.

Pure box ticking exercise. July would be the right time for this competition. If Kerry get to the All-Ireland final, club players won’t have a game from 23rd of June until the 4/5th of August. Perfect time period to get it done while interfering less with the Leaving Cert

Watched the Austin Stacks v Rathmore game on Clubber this evening. Cracking game, finished 0-18 to 3-09 before Stacks dominated Extra Time.
Great service from Clubber. Worth every penny I paid for it and hopefully they continue to show more games like this that would never be seen online before

Great to see five clubs in the quarter finals of the championship a club championship would be interesting I think at u21 level it was done a few years ago but doesn’t seem to be done anymore could be a nice competition for late October while senior championship is on as not every lad is playing ball to be fair it would be a squeeze but I think it would be a good competition and would help that passage of clubs from minors to senior as players would be more inclined to stay on as they’ll know they’ll be apart of their club u21 team in a championship for 4 years

It’s down to 4 now, 2 clubs & 2 divisions; South Kerry beat Dr Crokes after extra time, Stacks beat Kenmare, Laune Rangers overcame North Kerry with St Brendans beating Glenflesk.

Laune Rangers beating North Kerry is a bit of a shock in my eyes... didn't see that coming, considering the quality of players available to them, the middle diamond and spine was U20 county standard.. McElligott, Segal, Healy, Stack, Boyle and Dillon.... anyone back at it?

They needed their keeper to make a few decent saves, defended well, North Kerry missed a bit, laune Rangers got two late goals from counter attacks. Considering laune Rangers were missing Eoghan Hassett, it was a massive victory for the boys in blue. I just can't figure out why North Kerry played Jack McElligott centre forward , really takes away from his game.

Yes indeed, Liam Hassett would have been quite knowledgeable about a lot of the North Kerry side as he would have dealt with a good few of those players by being involved in the St. Michaels College, Listowel set up over a number of years. I also believe that judging by some pre-game comments by some of those involved with the North Kerry side instilled an over confidence mentality which you would think should not influence players with such inter county experience, but i suppose most are still very young and will hopefully learn for the future.

Very disciplined tackling all through, giving away very few storable frees. They always kept at least 2 up the pitch as an outlet when they won back possession and their scoring percentage from shots taken was very impressive. That said, I was surprised that NK didn't try shooting from further out in the 1st half when they had the breeze with them. They were 4 points up halfway through the 2nd half, hit the post twice when going for points, and Adam Carey made 2 or 3 very good saves to keep Rangers in it. Things fell apart for NK in the last 5 minutes, and in the 6 added minutes (I don't know where the ref got them from), as they turned into individuals instead of a team. Brendans v LR and Stacks v SK in the semis. Should be 2 interesting matches.

It is peak holiday season, was talking to a few minor coaches who are also fuming over the moving of the minor club championship to 1st July - it was September last year.. lot of minors have have exams so would head away in July.. lot of teams that had ambitions now may be struggling to field.
Great competition but the calender move may have tarnished it.

Yea - Laune Rangers were supposed to be seeking a postponement due to players being on holiday - as of now, fixture going ahead on Weds next. From what I hear, Laune Rangers have conceded their semi final to St Brendans, as they have up to a dozen players away on holidays next week, and wouldn't have enough players available to fulfil the fixture. An alternative date couldn't be agreed between both teams, so they had no choice but to concede. I understand that it's hard on St Brendans to rearrange things due to hurling fixtures, but really, how many of the St Brendans under 21 football team are playing hurling? Surely something could have been agreed to. Also, i'm not 100% sure if this is true, but Austin Stacks are supposed to be short players for the final the following week due to holidays. If they beat South Kerry in their semi final, will the final be refixed for them? If this arises, surely the Co Board can't change the date for the final seeing as they aren't moving the Laune Rangers v Brendans semi to another date. All very messy. Tough and unfair on the 2 club teams left in the competition, as their player pool is smaller than divisional sides. A precedent was set last year to suit East Kerry in this competition after all.

Fixtures are just so tight that rescheduling is rarely an option; Brendan’s had 4 guys who were due to go on holidays this week , each has cancelled their plans & have been reimbursed ( this is rumoured, not fact). I have heard that also on Stacks if they progress - assume if they can’t field same rules will apply.

I suppose when they cancelled their holidays for the match, it'd be hard for them to switch to another date. Still very messy though, as they've cancelled their holidays and now they don't even have a match to play. Scheduling of the competition is the issue that has caused this. Fixing the semi finals and the final for the 2 weeks after the leaving cert finishes was madness. After the exams, lads usually go on holidays with their friends in these 2 weeks, before they start working at summer jobs. The competition should have been started 2 weeks earlier than it did, and ran off over 4 consecutive weeks. For this issue to arise 2 years in a row is poor planning by those who made out the fixtures calendar.

I went to Killarney this evening for the Austin Stacks/South Kerry semi final. A strange game which burst into life in the final 20 minutes. . Stacks were in control for the first 25 minutes of the first half and for the 3rd quarter of the match. SK got a few points before halftime but it looked like AS weren't going to be caught when they scored their 2nd goal after 10 minutes of the 2nd half. SK never gave up, and the introduction of Ian O'Sullivan and a huge 2nd half performance at midfield by Alex Coffey drove them on to get back level. Stacks were all at sea, but they managed to win a scorable free in the 4 minute of injury time to win it. SK will run their many missed chances in both halves, including a penalty which was blasted wide in the 2nd half. It's a very strong team on paper by Stacks, but they'll have to up their performance big time if they're going to claim the title.

You are looking at 6 at least In defence of the board, the fixtures are in the calendar since early in 2024 They are already pushing things having it on in the middle of the senior hurling championship so making further imposition on the hurling is hardly fair? however, a precedent was set changing the date for East Kerry in 2023

I think the slow start was the difference in the end tonight while we got the rub of the green v Crokes in our one point extra time victory we were defeated by the same margin tonight in a close encounter.it is disappointing that Laune Rangers had to give a walkover having players away but I am sure Brendan’s did everything to accommodate them and in reality we are in the middle of a very busy hurling championship season

Clubs all over Ireland are missing players, especially younger lads. Anybody that's 19-21 is either on a leaving cert holiday or they going with their mates.
I've currently 10 players available from a squad of 28 for the team that I train. And that's happening all-over the country.

A bit of suprise how t Laune Rangers were not given just a week to help them compete in semi final , surely the CCC could find some date after all its only the 1st of july and Kerry Senior involvement should hopefully last for another month at least , we wanted to move minor age group to 18 again and yet here we are not giving a panel of young players a chance to compete in a county semi final and what makes it worst is that its their fault because they took a holiday after their leaving certificate or college exams , this is not the way to promote football to this age group and the calendar is letting them down badly .

All options were discussed & explored - it wasn’t just a case of postponing the final for one week only. The county hurling championship is currently under way; Brendans had 4 panellists cancel their holidays this week & rebook for next week. Stacks are missing players for tomorrow night - but they would be worse off in a week. Laune Rangers had 17 players unavailable from a panel of 30 - the last thing anybody wanted was a walkover in the semi final.

Stacks 2-10 St Brendans 0-12
Stacks won this game in the first half when aided by the strong wind, they led by 2-08 to 0-05 @ h/t; Brendans found it hard to break down the Stacks defence & were 7 points down , 2-09 to 0-10 when awarded a penalty in the 49th minute - Odhran Ferris’s shot was well saved by Ben Quilter with the resultant 45 being driven wide.
Stacks held on in the final minutes for a deserved win.

Deserved win for sure, despite Stacks not scoring for the last half an hour or so. A decent game, marred by some ugly scenes in injury time. Brendans lost their discipline towards the end, committing multiple black and/or red card offences which the referee failed to properly deal with. An all-out brawl inevitably ensued, involving players, sidelines and, most unfortunately, a gang of children running in and among the protagonists (you'd have to wonder, where were their parents?). An unfitting end, caused in large part by the referee losing control of the game. Order was eventually restored just long enough to blow it up.

Deserved Stacks victory, the 2 goals in the first half proved crucial, scored way too easy, insurmountable in the end, a high price for Brendan’s to pay, but they did not gel enough across the hour to deserve victory, lack of a competitive semi final I am sure played its part in the poor Brendan’s performance.
Congrats to Stacks.

Why this couldn't have been put back a week is anyone's guess. Having not played a semi final likely didn't help St. Brendan's to be fair.
Stacks looking good at underage. Did they get to the minor country final as well last year?

Stacks always have good underage teams but they don't seem to produce enough good senior players. Apart from Kieran Donaghy they haven't produced any top players since Mikey Sheehys time.
Our towns in general have been poor in producing players. Castleisland? Nobody really since Charlie Listowel? The 2 Kennelly's and one only played for a year. Kenmare? Sean O'Shea & S O'Brien and none since Micky Ned.

As for Castleisland, Listowel and Kenmare none of them have ever had more than one or maybe two player's with Kerry at any time.
