Only (relegated) Monaghan have conceded more than Kerry in Div 1 Isolated stats like that can give a skewed view. Roscommon have conceded the fewest goals so far (only 2) - have they the best defence?? Dublin have conceded more goals than all bar Monaghan - does this suggest they are vulnerable - I wish. Kerry also have the second highest points scored with only Dublin ahead in this stat. Kerry always seem to tighten up their defence come championship - the tackling gets keener and the turnovers improve. Probably an intensity thing.

I take your point AWB re disrupting 2 lines due to one man. Unfortunately we're not too heavy with lads putting up their hands to take on this role. I shudder at the thought of Dylan Casey at full back. To be honest from what I've seen he doesn't have the quality. He completely goes into his shell if he makes a mistake. Easily rattled in layman's terms. Therefore I thoroughly believe that Morley will be drafted back into full back. I suspect Jack O Connor wouldn't risk anything else only a solid No.3. Graham O Sullivan is probably the most likely candidate then to take up Morley's spot. However I'd be slow to move O Sullivan from his current berth. I wonder would the likes of Adrian Spillane have the nuances to play the Morley role. He has so much to offer does Spillane. Brilliant in the tackle, strong as an ox, fast and has that bit of bite. His attributes are more akin to that of a defender than of an inter county standard forward. Was it the 84 campaign that Dwyer moved Sean Walsh to full back (Johno retired ?) and Tom Spillane to #6 in a shake up of the team that ultimately came back from the defeats of 82 & 83 to win three in a row.

I agree about Morley is the best for the job given our resources but, I think it's easier to replace a man marker in defence than it is the sweeper role that Morley plays. We haven't really tested anyone else in the role or given them time to bed in there. In the past our Achilles heel has been teams running down the middle as we didnt have a sweeper or a +1 to block up the channels.
I think by moving Morley we are opening up this can of worms again without any real idea of what is going to happen. At least if you replace Jason you know you need a man marker and he can kind of be helped out by the sweeper or simply replaced if not up to it. If you decide to move Morley back and whoever (lets say Breen) is at 6 is making a hames of it, it will need another reshuffle as if you bring Morley back to 6 in game you cant slot someone like Breen into the full backline as they are not a man marker. Either can you drop gavin white back.
Morley has become the fulcrum of the defence and I think thinkering with the 6 position with only 1 meaningless league game and glorified friendlies in Munster would leave us exposed going into the group stages.

I wouldn't be confident of Okunbur making any sort of impression. Untested at this level because of repeated injuries. He is a big athletic lad but I don't think he has the finer footballing skills. He hasn't got the chance to come close to settling on a specialist position. I would fear putting him in full back,CHB or midfield for that matter.

I am pleased that Seanibo and Ciarraimick agree with me that Adrian Spillane has the characteristics which would warrant a trial at CHB. Sadly ,unlike Mick O’Dwyer and Mickey Harte , Jack O’Connor has no sense of daring. This means that Adrian will continue to languish as a water carrier . Neither fish nor fowl.

According to Sean O Sullivan on the Kerry pod the word on the street is that there was no break on Jason's ankle.
I've also heard separately that the hope is a scan might happen tomorrow.
Light the candles lads and head away to confession and we might get a favour from the powers above.

Look this is exactly why I give out about picking Murphy at corner last two games not his fault we need to try the new lads this is what the league is all about. I mean he could have rested foley too he has played every game and try Casey at full back and maybe someone at corner to see what they can do. Yes it’s after the fact but I been saying it for a while now everyone is panicking but it’s jacks biggest flaw that he doesn’t trust of new lads and likes to play his veterans. I mean does anyone know who plays fullback for Dublin.

Paul Murphy as corner back (No 4). In the last 2 games the pass for the goals came from the right corner forward position. No sign of our corner back manning his position in either incident.

Ridiculous statement. It isn’t the 80s anymore where every player stays in their positions. If Darragh Canavan is drifting centrally or out to the other corner do you want Paul to stay in his left corner back position? I wouldn’t view Paul as a certain starter but he has been outstanding in the last 2 games.

Looks like Jason is out for Munster Championship, not ideal as he will be rusty for All-Ireland series but worst than first feared. you mean better than first feared? the fear was he wouldnt play again this year

[br When was the last time you watched a match? He’s supposed to let his own man unmarked on the D is it and stand in one spot in the corner 🤣?

Paul has been very solid at corner back. He very rarely let's Kerry down. His positioning and reading of the game is excellent. I think that post is ridiculous.

I uploaded a version of the this post on Feb 28, in response to Kerry's hammering against Dublin. Now that Foley is out for a while, another problem rears it's head, could it even be an opportunity?
This is what we know about what we don't know...
Full forward line,
Who is going to partner David Clifford? Sean O Se? As of now he's not an inside forward! I will also say this about Sean O Se, he has a very non athletic running gait, when he runs it looks like his pelvis is having an argument with his lower back. It's clear that there are times, usually as the game progresses where he is caught for pace from a standing position. This has contributed to his cramping in past games. This has also contributed to injury, or decreased work capacity during a game. One would hope this is being addressed bio-mechanically, however in three years I've seen no improvement. This may be behind the decision to play him closer to goal.
Paul Geaney? Maybe, not sure he can give you 50-55 mins, might be a better impact sub. Obviously his late addition to game day activities is being timed with something in mind (or not).
Paudie Clifford, this is my choice. I would love to see him and his brother play closer together.
These are the only nailed on inside options that this contributor feels can offer something. Others will bring up Killian Spillane, Roche, as of right now, I've seen nothing from these two to give me any confidence that they can start a game for Kerry when the heat is on. Whose fault is that..?
Half Forward Line,
I fear that Paudie Clifford has been found out, and the better teams are making him work very, very hard. (Maybe a move closer to goal?) Leave Seanie O Se play CHF, flanked by Cillian Burke, and Diarmuid O Connor
Midfield, In my original post I stumped for Jason Foley and Joe O Connor using Brian Fentons power and pace as an example. I still believe this could/should happen, Jasons injury should force kerry into re-aligning there full back sweeper options,
I would like to see a central defensive spine of...
Graham Sullivan CHB, flanked by Gavin White and Tom Sullivan Adrian Spillane, Sweeper, Auxiliary Midfield (kickouts.) The argument for finding Adrian Spillane a proper home and on field purpose is well past due. We can only hope that those entrusted with delivering success have a similarly open mind. Tadhg Morley Full back
Between now and Foleys return, this triumvirate should be well acquainted with each other. Offering an option then to reposition Foley in Midfield after the Munster Championship. Unfortunately, what I think will happen is that Jack O Connor and Co. will splutter through the Munster championship, learning nothing about themselves and arrive into the championship proper, none the wiser.
Lastly, I'd like to say something about 2 players who get an extraordinary amount of attention on this forum, Mike Breen and Stefan Okunbar. In the last couple of years neither of these players have shown anything that even remotely comes close to being match fit, FORGET about playing actual football. I have deep respect for anyone who volunteers their time in anything to do with Kerry football, and of course I wish them the very best, however I think it is beyond futile to talk about players who simply can't get fit or stay fit. They are not options until they become options!

This might sound a bit stupid, but can Kerry just play with three man marking corner backs for the next while?
Shane Ryan commands the square well.

Ok so with the team named tomorrow what are people looking for in terms of a starting 15? I doubt Jack will put up some sort of B team - as the lads on TT rightly pointed out we're down so many bodies at the moment it wouldn't be even possible!
We'll see how we go anyway on Sunday, the fear is that after that we will be heading into the AI series in late May not really knowing where we are. Cork may give us a game in Killarney, they may not - the GAA equivalent now of the Scottish rugby team.
I assume I'm not the only one who will have the display in Croke Park ruminating in the brain unless and until we see Kerry really put another legitimate challenger to the sword in the groups or Q-final/Semi-final.

Heard the same from one of Jason’s ballydonoghue club mates that the ankle isn’t broken and he’s awaiting a scan to c the extent of any other damage… Hopefully nothing bad shows up and he’s back as soon as possible he’s a blue chip footballer and a nice fella… As for moving Tadgh to no3 I would agree with some of the other posters about trying Adrian at no 6 he has energy to burn tough as teak as well…

I am not at all convinced about Adrian at N0.6. People are saying on the one hand that players run through the centre and on the other hand we should try a wing-forward / attacking midfielder there.
Centre backs are a special breed. Very often they are not the fastest or busiest players on the team but make up for it by reading the play very well, being a physical barrier in the centre and instructing the wings. In a way they epitomise the old saying "Laziness is the ultimate in efficiency". Adrian is energetic, a ball follower and a man follower and is not wily enough. I have no problem with him on the starting 15 but in a position where his skills apply.

I think Spillane is a bit rash for 6 but could do a job at midfield for us offers nothing at 12 so shouldn’t be played there it’s very worrying the amount of injuries we have and the lack of game time in some lads like begley and Tom the Munster championship will be another procession so we could be in the super 8 with key lads completely under cooked

Why not try Adrian at no 6 and Sunday would b the day for it.. Eoin brosnan played there in 2011 as far as I remember and went off injured in the final v Dubs.. If he had lasted the 70 mins I reckon that result would have been very different..

Brosnan took a very hard shoulder from Paul Flynn with about 20 mins to go in the final. It just happened off camera but I saw it clearly. It was a fraction late and he was badly winded after it. He went off not long after and it had an impact for sure.

With regard to Adrain Spillane at centre back, I am a huge fan of the Templenoe man, and would love to see the lad as the holding midfielder. However, centre back like full back is a specialised position and along with being defence minded, physically, the centre back has to be light footed, playing om the toes and be able to swivel, twist and adapt in a split second to have the right body position, correct feet plant and centre of gravity in line to repel the attacking forward. Adrain, on the other hand, plays on the heels, if that makes sense. Apart from that, he has the physical attributes and brain, the will and commitment, however the swiftness to adapt may not be there. In saying that, I would have no issue in him playing there Sunday, one serious bonus and I have seen this at club games where Tadgh has been at 3, he has played the sweeper or holding midfielder, so the connection, report and understanding is there already between the club mates…. Tomorrow will tell a lot on what Jack has in mind, we all know that Kerry like all teams play A vs B games, it could just be the case of the “B” full back going in for a like for like replacement - if that is the case then I envisage Jack will play safe, and go with Dylan Casey.
