There's doubts about Burke until next year I'm lead to believe, he suffered a bad injury and needed major surgery which could rule him out until the next winter. It would all depend how long his recovery period is and whether he recovers in time to go for trials or not.

Anybody who was in ASP on Monday night would have to be excited by the displays of Ben Murphy & Cillian Dennehy - Murphy has been well touted for his potential & rightly so but Dennehy looks a real prospect too - his availability in the AI minor semi final vs Derry could well have seen a different outcome. Next week’s final on Monday night is an intriguing prospect. I was standing next to some Austin Stack’s supporters in Killarney at the intermediate semifinals and they said Ben is being looked at by the Australian boys. Tailor made for that game unfortunately. His balance under pressure is exceptional. A serious prospect. Dennehy in the other SF was standout also. 2 quality matches with really good 17 year olds on show. Looking forward to the final

Curious about the number of lads being looked at by Oz scouts this year - is this normal and is it a long road from being looked at to getting an offer. In my memory we have lost Mark O Conor, Davidad Uosis (apologies for my spelling), Rob Monaghan, Stefan (who has returned) over the past 8 years and now a load of names are being talked about this year or next - Cillian Burke, Ben Murphy, Charlie Keating, Tomas Kennedy and Ronan Carroll How many Irish lads are actually playing first team footie in Oz at this time? It seems like 70 or 80% of the young lads being looked at are from Kerry. I suppose there aren’t too many young players as athletic as Burke, Keating, Kennedy or Ben Murphy around the country. We could have a real athletic team on our hands in a few years we manage to hang onto most of them.

Other counties lads are being looked at as well (based on the numbers that go to the AFL combines every year) We have just been unfortunate in that we have lost the most players to OZ. However other counties have lost players as well. There were 13 Irish players signed to AFL contracts this year. 2 of these were Irish - Mark O'Connor (Geelong) and Rob Monahan (Carlton) Rob Monahan has at least one season more left on his contract (end of 2025 season) while Mark O'Connor's current deal has two more years/until the end of the 2026 season. If any Irish lads sign rookie contracts this year, to head next year it will be confirmed in the next few weeks.

Of lads 17-21 it seems like Burke, Keating, Kennedy and Ben Murphy are being seriously considered by AFL clubs. Obviously we hear more about the Kerry players but I’m not sure if there are more than 4 from the rest of the country who are attracting the same level of interest. Eoin McElholm from Tyrone is, James Sargent from Derry you’d imagine will. I don’t think there’s too many others in that age group.

taking into account that weve essentially sent a player over there only once every 3 years at worst case scenario, would it not seem a bit far fetched to suggest we could have 4 or 5 going over there this year?
they dont seem to take too many lads overall, maximum 1-2 new lads every year, people probably need to relax a little and just see what happens.
