New champions in this competition, when did that last happen ? Well done to Mercy Mounthawk, a fine achievement. Not as unique (new champions) as one might think. Mounthawk become the 19th winner of this competition since 1928 and the fifth first time winner since 2000. Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne 2012 De La Salle, Macroom 2006 Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh, Cork 2005 Coláiste na Sceilge, Cahersiveen 2001 I suppose there has been more amalgamations in the last 20/30 years, creating new schools- Mounthawk, Colaiste na Sceilge and Pobalscoil would come under that heading. I don't know the history of Colaiste an Sprioraid Naomh in that regard. CBS Macroom would be around a long time.

PCD, as far as football is concerned, is essentially the same school. Spioraid Naomh is in Bishopstown and fed by Bishopstown and has a Barrs contingent too (and hurlers from Ballinhassig). It is there since maybe the late 1960s.

Intermediate School Killorglin (one title) were the first Kerry side other than the two traditional powerhouses (Sem and Green) to win Munster A in 1996 and Colaiste Na Sceilge in 2001 were the next Kerry side to make the breakthrough (they won in 2001/2/3/9). The Sem with 24 and the Green with 16 are the two most successful sides.

Great display by Mounthawk, winning by five after being down by five in the first half. All the more meritorious considering the pupil numbers at the respective schools.
They started sluggishly but the secret seemed to be that they then started to make Naas go long with their kicks out . Mounthawk were very strong in the midfield area.
What an achievement it would if they went on to it. They certainly have some outstanding individuals.

St Gerald's College (Castlebar) v Omagh CBS play today in Donegal - the winners will meet Mercy Mounthawk in the final of the Hogan Cup.
Omagh are the holders of the Hogan Cup having won it for the first time in the schools history in 2023.

Tarbert comp into c final beating mercy from Longford in extra time This was a cracking game of ball, with excellent scores and play from both sides, Tarbert played a lot better than they did in the Munster Final vs Bantry, miles better and were seven points up in the final stretch, a black card and the concession of 2-01 in the final seven minutes brought the game to ET. They played the better ball again in ET, the return to fifteen, coupled with a straight red to the opposition swung the game back in their favour. The most encouraging was lessons were learned from their Munster Final win, the ploy of making a sub for the sake of it in normal time nearly cost them, there was no need to go tinkering when they were in the ascendancy, this change upset the balance, and nearly cost them. Still massive for the comp and surrounding clubs... well done..,,, some set up too in Clarecastle...impressive...

TUS Corn an Fhriunnaigh (17 AF)
St Brendans Killarney 1-9 V 1-10 St Pats Castleisland Semi-Final Venue: Referee: TBC1:00 PM
I had read that the Sem got 12 goals in their 1/4 win over Rochestown but beaten today by Pats, great to see new schools emerging!

ET in Carlow.
Tarbert were eleven up, conceded late scores including four goals.
Captain Sean Wren pointed a 45 in 63rd minutes to bring to ET...

3-19 to 4-14... all irekand trophy heading to North Kerry I am not sure if I have ever seen a crazier game of football. Level at halftime in normal time , Tarbert gave a master class in the first quarter of the second half and raced into an eleven point lead with about fifteen minutes to go. They then proceeded to give a master class in how to throw away an eleven point lead, having to rescue the match with a last minute point from a forty five . Tarbert seemed to get a second wind in extra time and eventually sealed it with a blistering goal from John Coolahan. He scored about 2-3 . Heartbreak for St. Malachy’s College. Their comeback was extraordinary. They would have been worthy winners too. But to Tarbert the laurels. Delighted for them.

The banter and chanting between both groups was tribal way different atmosphere to a regular club gane, this was a different gravy, really enjoyable

Great win for Tarbert. I'm sure someone on here said a few years ago they weren't even fielding a team.

Hogan Cup final starting in a few minutes with Tomas O Se working for RTE at the Galway/Dublin game. A surprising move with a few potential under 20 starters playing in Croke Park.

Losing a Kerry under 20 at CB before the game is a huge loss.
Mercy were very good in that first half.
Omagh just took over in the 2nd.

Commiserations to Mounthawk but an outstanding performance all over the field by Omagh winning all the individual battles and playing a lovely fast style of football that Mounthawk could simply not live with the omagh midfielder number 9 is some player and the the tyrone conveyer belt is producing some unreal teams at all levels .safe journey home to all the Mounthawk supporters this bank holiday weekend and especially drive carefully on the roads .I remember fondly the celebrations when sceilige won the hogan cup and what it meant to us all down south and Iunfortunately the wait continues for a Tralee school to replicate us and bring the Hogan cup back to the town

Omagh deserving winners - Mounthawk will be very disappointed with their second half performance. Brilliant achievement getting to their first Hogan Cup final and after holding their own in the first half they seemed to develop stage fright in the second and were outplayed throughout the field.

I agree but money talks.Remember Brendan Cummins and Kerry hurlers. To be fair you'd imagine he has a fair idea who he's going to be looking at. The Cummins thing was different as he was actually part of the Kerry backroom team.
