Even though it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, still very disappointing. Lost our way before half time and didn’t really get going till behind but conditions were tough. I think a few decisions went against us which could have changed things but that is the way it goes sometimes.
A few mistakes towards the end from a few of the new guys which were costly and last year is well and truly behind us now.

Threw it away absoutely threw that game away. Really poor stuff in the second half, terrible wides and left 6-7 points behind. Thought Barry Dan did very well in the middle. Roche did ok too. But I'm beginning to lose faith/patience with Brosnan. He's not talking the chances being given to him by the management. Maybe now the clamours for him to be played more will die down, considering most times he has been given (numerous) opportunities to stake a claim, he's anonymous at best. Donal O'Sullivan surely worth a start against Monaghan?

Donegals 5th point was wide the definition of hometown decision. I ll have a look on TV later but from the stand it looked wide. Even Donegal fans near me saying twas wide. I thought Moynihan had one incorrectly ruled out in the first half as well. Mind you, Ruairi Murphy's looked a bit iffy too. Ref gave Donegal everything today. O'Connor going mad at the officials at the end. That said, really, really poor by Kerry in that second half.

Terrible game to watch poor and scrappy How many points in the second half I counted 3 myself ?. Left it behind us I suppose the weather didn't really help in those conditions. but look it's the first game back plenty more better days to come U.T.K Same weather for both teams. I always thought bad weather suited teams with better ball skills. If you have good catching (and kicking skills) they should be able to play in most conditions, otherwise, the balls skills were not that good in truth.

Donegals 5th point was wide the definition of hometown decision. Just saw that played back on post-match TG4 analysis, yeah ridiculous decision. Missed it myself at the time, but a mile wide!

Waiting on my burger before hitting the road home. Very disappointed to blow a 6 point lead like that. Felt we would get a draw but when you lose being 6 up then you can't complain. Too many wides and in particular that 2nd half. Nobody in that FF line is a starter for me. Some have had ample opportunities at this stage.

Poor from 25th minute onwards. We looked leaderless up front, nobody wanted to take the responsibility of taking the shot when we struggled for scores. Donegal deserved their win simply because they got the basics right a lot of the time. Some dreadful shooting and poor decision making when the pressure was on. Also, I was right behind that 5th point for Donegal and it was 100% wide. We need a response against Monaghan next Sunday or else we'll be under pressure for the rest of the league

Overall a poor performance - we were gifted a goal and only managed 9 points in 70+ minutes. Some of our more experienced panel players did little to suggest they are more than panel players at best and one has to wonder how long a lad should be taking up panel space if they can't progress. The only saving grace may be the lack of training and the obviously difficult conditions - some lads were running on empty.

He has been around Kerry panels for a while now. * or get off the pot. Burns & Brosnan on the same wing was a disaster - Brosnan never looked like going past his man, toe tapping on the spot, can’t believe he wasn’t substituted- Donal “Down” did far more in the short time he was on the pitch.

Lads I said it before the game, our lacking leadership and fitness could be telling, and it passed, I did get a bit excited with the naming of the Donegal team, they were poor, they tried their best to hand us the game but we could not capitalise.
The lack of a regular free taker was costly too, also think it’s time to park the GK coming out for any kicks. The line could have introduced subs earlier, was very evident we were fading.
On the positive side, I thought foley blotted out mcbrearty bar last kick😂, Paul murphy played well, I think dara roche was the pick of the forwards, the HF line faded very early, out of the game after 15.

Paul Murphy head and shoulders our best performer, two brilliant points. I also thought Roche was good, had an excellent first half and tried hard in the second. Foley also played very well. Ruairi Murphy and Donal O’Sullivan both made an impact off the bench, both made mistakes but at least they were trying to create something. After that hard to say much positive about anyone. Killian Spillane, Michael Burns, Tony Brosnan and Jack Barry particularly poor. Also that kick out that went backwards was a terrible mistake by Shane Murphy.

P*ssed off with that second half now to be honest. Just not good enough from the AI champions no matter how many are missing. It was a weak Donegal outfit too. #Jackout

As usual the weather was horrible. Mike Breen, Dara Roche and Stefan were impressive.Paul Murphy again brilliant. Wouldn't worry too much about the loss. Why was Jack O Connor so pissed off at the end? Seemed like he was mas at an official?? Kerry are ok. As Billy OShea said on RK the crowd in Ballybofey willed them on when they smelled blood and it became a difficult task for the newcomers to shine.Only lost by a point which is good for our standing . Tyrone lost by 5 and Monaghan by 2. Very early days.

1-6 in 24 minutes. 0-3 for the next 50 or so, including a 25 minute barren spell between the first and second halves. Not good enough for inter county football IMO.
I don't know which team should be more worried after this; ourselves (albeit a very weakened team) or Donegal who still needed a last minute winner to beat us.

Lacked leaders up top, Spillane and Brosnan were just receiving and laid it off. Spillane tried a couple of poor attempts but the shot wasn't on. Donal O Sullivan and maybe Ruairi Murphy should be given a shot next week. We missed our key forwards today, when the game was in the melting pot. Shane Murphy doesn't cope well with pressure either, that much was clear today. Roche was good for Kerry as was Paul Murphy. Barry Dan, Adrian Spillane and Dara Moynihan held their own in a tough day.

But Donegal showed us how to kick points today. Good day overall

Agree RE PM, DR and based on today DO'S is certainly worthy of an opportunity ahead of of either TB or KS. Regarding the later two, I would like to see where their possessions actually were particularly TB as he seemed to handle a lot of ball down the wing/corner and outside the 45. Both had little scoring opportunities also as their possessions were not in scoring areas. DR got ball in and around the square which he scored from. This would lead me to question the Kerry transition from defense and our ability to get the head up and play a kick pass before the defense gets set. DC could score from most locations and make something from nothing, that option isn't there so a more structured form of attack is required. Also, re Burns, what did DM do or not do that puts him so much ahead of burns today apart from scoring the goal?

Jack looked well annoyed there at the end. We could have drawn this one at least but Donegal deserved their win and clearly this one meant a lot. Good luck to them but Kerry will learn and improve.

As good a match as you could have expected this early in the year and with these conditions. Kerry started well, but Donegal have obviously done a lot more training by now and it was clear. Brosnan and Spillane didn't reach their potential, though you might see very few forwards do well on days like these. Going to Ballybofey is always tough and Kerry were in it right up until the end. From the post match interviews it was clear that Donegal were looking to lay down a marker. Carr could hardly control himself. McBrearty too was full of adrenaline. Kerry's defence again did quite well, Crowley, Foley and Murphy standouts once again. Midfield was not great for us, though that was very much due to the kickouts. I'd like to see the stats, but I don't think we won many of the long kickouts and very few of the Donegal ones. Shane Murphy is not a bad goalkeeper, but his job is kickouts, and he doesn't do those very well. Also took part in the freetaking and didn't do that great either. If we would kept on to Uosis he would be an option, but perhaps Shane Murphy is the best understudy for Ryan. I don't think he is though.

Donal is only 23, and is better than Tony Brosnan, bigger, stronger and faster. Has the ability to get past his man aswel which Brosnan and Burns never could or never will be able to do. I would give him the start v Monaghan and see how he gets on.

Killian has to be the worst league footballer in the division.
It’s almost getting to the stage whereby if it’s not a dry pitch, dry ball and a minimum of 18 degrees then you may aswell leave him out of the squad.

Agreed, disaster having both on the same wing. Too slight for intercounty. Different ball game to playing club. Donal has power and a bit of agression.

Definitely a man for the sun on his back in Croker in July/August alright. He’s not a rough and tumble footballer which is what the Jan & Feb games are about. I’d rather him shining in the summer to be honest.

Moynihan didn’t do a whole lot more you’re right but he did contribute the goal and also won another good turnover. He was unlucky with one shot at the posts and just offered a bit more in general play to my eye than Burns. Some on here are writing Brosnan off completely. I’d cut him more slack. Brosnan has had a lot of good league games in a Kerry jersey unlike Killian Spillane so I would definitely be sticking with Brosnan next week. It was tough today for both because they had to deal with a difficult wind, soft ground as well as a mass Donegal defence. What most disappointed me was 2 or 3 bad wides from Spillane.
