We must be reminded that after losing these big leads Galway went on to win. That is "shtones", no? I agree its more if that was kerry what would people say thats all defo double standards. Ah dont mind me i like to get fired up reading comnents and stuff from opposing fans a siege mentality thing! Galway are a hard enough team to hate so finding ammunition is harder than other teams! Some commentators said that Kerry had a "wobble" against Dublin. Kerry were up by six and went on to win against Dublin. I don't think the commentary around Kerry in the SF has been overly... Wait I'm messing with your seige mentality my apologies 😅😅👍💚💛

But no the narrative on every podcast etc is if galway are there with 20 to go etc. Then kerry will wilt even though the evidence suggests galway are more likely to feel the burn. That collapse against Armagh was fairly spectacular and worrying from their point of view. Yeah, that's lazy journalism, of course Galway have a chance with 20 minutes to go if they're level....compared to if they're 6 points down with 20 min to go. I think Kerry are in a much better position to win if it's level at 50 min. Galway have no bench - I believe all but one or two of their bench made their C'ship debuts this year while Kerry have a lot of experience on the bench. Kerry's defense really excels in the later stages of games - only conceded 2 pts in the last 15 min v Dublin, and 1 pt in the last 20 min v Mayo and Cork. Contrast that to Galway who've conceded quite a lot late on v Armagh and Mayo and even a late goal to Derry which could have proved costly. So if level with 20 min to go, be optimistic!

I forgot Kevin McStay got the nod for Sunday. That'll make tickets harder to get as nobody wants to spend All-Ireland final day listening to him. It'll also boost Sky Sports subscriptions in Kerry!

I think this is a team that has potential to be great. Like all teams who have a bit of a drought it just needs one win for the pressure to release. I think we will have the measure of Galway all over the park. I predict we could be 6/7 up at half time. If our whole forward line function then Galway will be in big trouble, I’d really want Geaney & SOB to have good games on Sunday, if they function along with the 2 Cliffords & SOS I can’t see us losing.

now that the final has been won, that Seanie kick is forever immortalised as perhaps, the greatest kick of a ball in our history.

I have changed to name on this thread.
It can be used for all discussions into the winter and next year about all matters relating to the Dublin v Kerry rivalry. Including the 2023 All Ireland final perhaps!

Am i right in thinking that if Kerry and Dublin win their provincials in 2023, they cant meet in any of the pool games so the first and only match could be the AI final if they get far.

That's what I believed but I read a piece today saying there is a draw for all ireland semi finals after the group stage. If that's true we could meet in semi again next year. From the motion passed at Congress when the 2023 format was decided:
"The four quarter-final winners shall play against each other in the Semi-Final based on a draw, subject to the avoidance of repeat pairings from the championship, where possible."

So the old pre ordained semi finals ...ie Munster v Connacht would be next year..... is no more!

So the old pre ordained semi finals ...ie Munster v Connacht would be next year..... is no more! It seems an odd move when each of the 4 groups contain one provincial winner (and a provincial runner up) so it would have been quite easy to arrange the semi-finals by group (province) according to the usual 3 year cycle, even if the actual provincial winners don't make it to the semi-final, as happened to all 4 provincial winners in 2010. If they wanted to remove the impact of the provincial system they could have just placed teams in the group according to league position, i.e. position 1-4 as seeds 1, 5-8 seeds 2, etc. I think that'd be fairer than having provincial runners up as seed 2. If you've the lowest or 2nd lowest placed league team along with either the Munster or Leinster runner-up it'll be an easy group.

Galway will rise up and go back down.
So will Mayo.
So will Tyrone.
So will Kerry.
Its the natural order of things.
Will Dublin though?
I have been thinking about the Dublin v Kerry rivalry recently and the notable thing since 1970 anyway is that there have seldom peaked at the same time.
When Kerry were reaching finals in 1968 to 1972, Dublin were down.
Dublin great team rose in 1974 and were gone by 1979.
Kerrys great team didnt really arrive till Jacko and Liston established themselves from 1978 on.
Dublin did have a decent team in 1983 but not a great team. Kerry handled them easy enough in 84 and 85.
When Kerry went into the wilderness in 1987, Dublin started rising and regularly reached finals and won the 1995 final.
Kerry started rising again in 1996 but Dublin were on a downward slope by then
They did meet and draw in 2001 but it would be another 10 years before Dublins great team arrived.
By 2011 Kerrys great team of Darragh Colm Declan etc were on the way down.
Kerry were team building during dublins 6 ina row period.
Kerry are rising now again and most of the great 6 inarow Dublin team are gone.
But will Dublin go into a downward trajectory this time.
The line between losing to Mayo in 2021 and losing to Kerry in 2022 were thin to say the least.... last minute kicks at the end of normal time being key.
I thought Dublin were simply heroic v Kerry in 2022 and who knows what would have happened in extra time.
The thing is that so many of their players were poor...Rock, Costello apart from the goal, Paddy Small should have started and this would have allowed them to play quick ball forward. Con wasnt playing.
I think its a bit simplistic to point to McCarthy and a few more and say that they will tank when they go.
A lot of them are young and Lee Gannon is the type of player that they can find given the numbers etc and he looks like being a huge player.

the main worry about dublin next year, is if a change of management happens and the right man goes in there, 2 or 3 big name players may go back playing. said players are all exceptionally close off the pitch and one going back, could lead to another and so on

Not much if a return from the FF line. Brian Howard looks out of position. Scully has lost form. Its not hard to see a 10% improvement in 2023. They can use div 2 to blood more players. It is going to be interesting to see what happens in the coming years. I find it impossible to envisage a scenario where Dublin are not permanently in the top 2. If they arent there is something up.

The set ups that dublin clubs have and the other advantages such as population and funding mean that Dublin will prob be in 6 out of every 10 finals, at least and will prob win 3/4 a decade

I think Dublin might struggle over the next few years; playing in Division 2 will allow them test out new players but it’s still a level below what championship will bring. There are a lot of guys from this year’s panel who are on borrowed time - Byrne, Fitzsimons, Cooper , James MCarthy - Fenton is approaching 30 & hasn’t played well in a while; Scully not able to make starting 15, Rock anonymous & Costello probably not good enough. That’s a lot of experience to replace in a short space of time, but if say McCaffrey & Mangion returned it would be a big boost. On the other hand, a change of management might see a raft of changes which might prove beneficial in the long run but would hinder their chances in the next few years. Anyway, that’s not our problem thankfully & hope that this Kerry squad & management stay together for the foreseeable.

Yeah I would agree with that, there’s too many factors in their favour for them to ever slip outside the top 2/3 favourites

I would worry for Dublin if they lose Fitzsimmons and Byrne in the full back line. You mention that Scully has lost form. I never rated him as a top player. Easy to look good when the opposition backs are trying to look after Mannion, con, Kilkenny and rock at their peak. He needed to step up this year when some of those guys weren't available or off form and he ended up on the subs bench.

I can't recall much reference to a save from James McCarthy by Shane Ryan in the 5th minute.
At that point it was 1.01 to 2 points and SR saved the shot with his feet. Howard kicked a point from the rebound but can you imagine the lift a goal at that point would have given Dublin.
Shane was brilliant for us this year.

Outside the James McCarthy shot, I don’t recall Shane making any other saves in the championship. To be honest, it would have been a poor goal to concede from Shane’s perspective,
Shane’s biggest asset was his coolness under pressure, whether that was kick outs or just been an out ball for his defence. He didn’t venture far from his goal but when he did so, there was a point to it.

The shot from the end of the earth! My friend has a framed black and white photograph of Cluxton's kick in 2011 on his mantle piece, its there mocking me anytime I visit his house in Dublin.
I wonder is there any crowd that would do a similar framed stylish picture of Seanie's kick for a man?
