PG poked the ball forward, it bounced up in the air, GW showed huge bravery in going for it by leaping up and slapping in into the net in the same split second that the keeper came to punch the ball. The keeper fist hit his head in that split second. I honestly wouldnt blame the keeper at all. It wasn't the keeper. It was Ryan O'Donoghue. I thought it was a stonewall yellow for dangerous play and personally I think it should be a red card offence given the dangers of concussion/blows to the head. For me the GAA is still not doing enough around the area of concussion/head injuries. Sadly I fear there isn't going to be any change until someone gets seriously injured/dies. Sorry...meant Ryan oDonoghue. This isnt like John Small sizing up and his man who is blindsided....and using the shoulder to the head. The ball shot up into the air.. and GW and RoD reacted in an instant. Anyway..lets agree to differ.....glad GW is ok...he is very brave.

Tony Brosnan sprayed some lovely footpasses around with the time and space out there. He’s fast as well

He went with the closed fist and wasn’t close to hitting the ball really.

Separate issue that I want to raise aside from todays game. In Clifford’s acceptance speech he spoke about the ‘10 members of the extended panel’ training yesterday in Currans. If that was indeed the case I would be absolutely appalled with Jack Connor and his management team. Those lads went training yesterday morning and had to turn around and play county league with their clubs in the evening. How demoralizing it must be for clubs to have your star men show up tired for games? I know of one player who pulled his hamstring and had to go off, I’m sure there was more. Complete disrespect shown to clubs.

I suspect that the biggest danger for Kerry is that they might not have another meaningful match until the AI semis on July 9/10, that's almost 100 days away. The All Ireland quarter final is likely to be against decent opposition, strong chance it’ll be against a division 1 team.

It could have been a collective video session also.

We did not cough up one goal chance from play really, yes the point attempt that came back off the post but we were never opened up. What about Shane Ryan’s free? Brilliant. I think the quarters is a great win as it gives us a very competitive game but removing the exposure we got caught in last year going from the Munster wasteland to a semifinal cauldron. I think we’re in a good place but have formidable psychological battles to overcome if we meet Dublin and more especially Tyrone.
It’s great to see the team playing so unitedly and reshaping in runtime to defend then attack. The backs are sublime. How can Paul Murphy get on that 15 now? Think Graham is coming on by game.

Even if that’s correct, which I highly doubt fellas were brought in to do some kicking and stretching, you’re asking fellas to travel from their homes to Currans, travel home and then possibly hit the road for a county league game. It’s so disrespectful to clubs, just let them show up fresh for their teams. As I said, the game I was at, one fella pulled his hamstring, in fact he had to be persuaded by management to play as he was feeling tight before the game. It shouldn’t happen, it’s wrong.

On the other hand, I suppose Barry was lucky enough. on the Aidan O'Shea diving, I saw a lot of it today from the big man, that and the amount of time he ran into the backs of Kerry players today who'd already got rid of the ball, he got sent of for semilar antics late in the 2019 league final and he was at it in Tralee as well. How are reffs letting him get away with it? .

Thought Geaney had one of his best games in ages, great to see him put in a performance that will make give the sideline some serious reflections in the weeks ahead. Tony Brosnan has had a great League but Geaney showed today he is ready to fight tooth and nail for a starting berth in the full forward line.
We really seem to have a full panel of options for every line in the field now. Brilliant to see.
Its mad, maybe it was the fact I was still getting over Covid but last Sunday but after listening to the Tyrone game and reading everything on here I was beginning to despair that we were still a bit off.
Tonight and you'd start indulging in thoughts of being on Denny St next August for the homecoming.
Maybe its best to keep that old adage in mind, a pat in the back is only a couple of inches from a kick in the ass.
Still roll on Pairc Ui Rinn ;D

I will say it was comedy gold when he did it to Cillian O'Connor in the 2014 allireland semifinal in limerick. That’s a piss poor comment.

Great performance. Great to see Gavin White back, and he was on fire, thought he was man-of-the-match in the first-half, before Clifford turned on the afterburners in the second half. Really not happy at all with the hit on him for the goal. This was a really dangerous play, and the GAA are not doing enough to protect players against this. I notice in rugby, they are protecting players much more with harsh punishment for dangerous play, but this is not the case in the GAA. He has just come back from injury following a cynical foul, and he gets clattered again in the head, and no action taken. Presumably the ref didn't see it (or any umpires or anything), in that case I wonder will there be any retrospective punishment? (not holding my breath) PG poked the ball forward, it bounced up in the air, GW showed huge bravery in going for it by leaping up and slapping in into the net in the same split second that the keeper came to punch the ball. The keeper fist hit his head in that split second. I honestly wouldnt blame the keeper at all. It was Ryan ODonoghue that hit him

Lads can anyone tell me why Cliffords first free around the 14 min mark was a free in? The one resulting from when he jumped into the Mayo keeper? Was sitting at the other end of the Hogan and couldn't understand that decision. It was 100% right, take another look - good reffing too and with respect ref got most things right. Also re Jack Barry, if he tried to avoid what materialised he'd put himself in a potentially vulnerable position so he had to follow through, that's what you do in the spur of the moment. Mind you less of the smiling wouldn't do any harm, I seen a good bit of acting and cod-acting in my day, the day you are innocent you get sent down, sown were the seeds of doubt! BTW well done to Charlie Bird, and a reflective acknowledgement on behalf of Red Óg Murphy on here wouldn't go amiss. I did one a while back so maybe better if sentiment was expressed by someone else - don't be shy, those in grief appreciate these things when they are down and we have all been there. BTW I think once the intention is right the condolence should be made on behalf of the Forum - in the spur of the moment I didn't take such liberty and given the vibes, some expressed on here, maybe I'd do it differently.

I broke my Lenten fast to have a pint on the way home to celebrate, suppose I can't mark Catholic in the census tonight now 😐 Just want to praise Jason Foley if I can. These might be dark days for football in North Kerry, but Jason has emerged as our shinning light. A dogged, uncompromising, skillfull and tenacious fullback who has shown himself this spring to be the next great link in that wonderful tradition of North Kerry backs at intercounty level. Handled everything today and even with the game long won he wouldn't give Cillian OC a sniff when he ran on. It was wonderful to see him pop up to slot home the last goal. Your doing North Kerry proud Jason, hopefully you'll do us prouder still before the summer ends Did ya spot his acceleration to position himself for the goal - my Collie thought he was going to run out of the TV screen and jumped out of the way, I didn't pick up on it myself until TSG. NK is starved and while I don't want to obsess on Jason as it was a 35 man effort, but congrats on his first piece of senior Croker silverware, first of many we hope. And of c well done also to the other 34. I always thought this was our all-time best panel and hopefully now the sacrifices will pay off. It is just amazing to see young men smile having given their all. Foley comes from a long line of contributors to Ballydonoghue - his grandfather Donal was a pillar of voluntary initiatives in the community while his grand-aunt Peggy often carted a team of us. Peggy and her husband Mick Finucane donned the jersey in the same hour - imagine, up with the very best of 'em? Now I don't want to pretend to be a Fionn Mac Cumhaill and moreover after the event, but I came across a photo of Jason among the then young teen generation of the current crop of Foleys and well, you just knew something good was going to come out of it. He had that winning-way look about him, the same one he had today after scoring that goal! PS Aidan O'Shea can be clumsy, story of Mayo in a way, he had the hairs on the back of my neck standing with that goal vs Aussies - maybe he is too headstrong to be knocked into shape, they again he's courting a Kerry girl so, like every saint has a past, every sinner as a future - he is serious class if he can realise his true potential, maybe he is not being coached in tactics as Mayo are a traditional footballing county.

Amateur players, who have to get up for work in the morning, can get bad injuries, and its not a laughing matter especially when heads are clashed. They were both blindsided. It was awful to see.

Allianz FL Division 1 Final: Kerry 3-19 Mayo 0-13
The annals will record this as the second joint highest winning margin in the history of Division 1 finals. Alongside Dublin’s mauling of Derry in 2014, this 15-point victory of Kerry’s will stand proudly at least on paper.
That they subjected fellow All-Ireland contenders to such a trouncing will make it that bit sweeter but they won’t be losing the run of themselves. Not when Mayo were down arguably five of their starting championship 15 and looked listless and uninterested for a lot of the second half.
Five weeks away from Cork, Kerry were always going to be able to attack this game easier than Mayo whose championship opener against Galway falls two weeks earlier. It may not have affected the result but it most certainly impacted the magnitude as Mayo virtually downed tools in the final quarter when the die was cast.
It may have only been Mayo in body but Kerry’s professionalism couldn’t be faulted. After a fine league campaign, Diarmuid O’Connor wasn’t influential here but the labour of Dara Moynihan and Adrian Spillane around him compensated. As they have done all spring, Jason Foley and Tadhg Morley formed a convincing central defensive plank. However, kick-outs do remain a concern and the identity of the goalkeeper for May 7 remains a question.
Seven points down, the game was still there for Mayo when O’Connor was sin-binned for a cynical foul on Aidan O’Shea in the 51st minute. Yet the numerical advantage meant little as Kerry outscored them 0-4 to 0-1 in the following 11 minutes, their only score the Ryan O’Donoghue free for the O’Connor infringement. It said a lot about Kerry’s desire and the lack of it in their opponents.
In that period, David Clifford scored a majestic point from each side of the field into the Hill 16 End goal. He was giving Pádraig O’Hora a torrid time and compounded the defender’s experience with a goal finished with typical flare in the 66th minute, a score many in the 31,506 rightly acknowledged.
With five points, Paul Geaney was excellent riding shotgun, producing his best display for Kerry in three years. With his last effort, he extended Kerry’s advantage to 14 points. Cillian O’Connor, making his first appearance for Mayo in 10 months, and O’Donoghue clawed a little back only for full-back Foley to get it on the act in additional time, finding the net when Rory Byrne parried Tony Brosnan’s strike.
“Jason Foley, I never saw him that high up in my life so look the game was kind of over at that stage,” smiled Jack O’Connor. “But Jason has been playing great football and it was only fitting he finished off the league getting a score.”
Kerry never surrendered their lead from the ninth minute. Up 0-6 to 0-3 after the first quarter, they had a couple of goal opportunities too, Paudie Clifford stopped by Byrne in the fifth minute and David Clifford whistled for a square ball four minutes later.
It hardly deterred them as they rattled off the next three scores before Conor Loftus had a chance at the other end as he reacted to Jack Carney’s shot coming off the post. James Carr picked up off the first of two first-half points soon after but Mayo were already chasing.
The difference was three points when Gavin White palmed in the first goal of the game in the 24th minute, the wing-back initially breaking three tackles to engineer the move. He offloaded to Geaney whose shot was half-blocked by Byrne and hung long enough in the air for White to finish to the net although he took a heavy hit in doing so.
Loftus cut Mayo’s deficit to four in the 33rd minute but David Clifford and Shane Ryan concluded the scoring in the first half.
Leading 1-10 to 0-7 at the turnaround, O’Connor wanted Kerry to dictate the pace of the game in the second period. “We felt in the first half it was a bit too helter-skelter for our benefit because we were turning over a lot of ball up in the forwards and Mayo were counter attacking us and we tried to calm things down at half-time and make sure we didn’t lose ball up in the forward line because Mayo were getting oxygen from our looseness up front.
"But very happy. Any day you kick 3-19 in Croke Park is a great day.”
As for the processional feel in the closing stages, O’Connor wasn’t complaining. “Jees, I was delighted. For one time in my life, I was able to get a bit of peace and ease. No, I wasn’t disappointed at all.”
There is little for him to be disappointed with after a most satisfying spring.

A tactical question on our defensive set up, does Jack Barry fill in at centre back and mark the centre forward when Morley becomes the ‘plus one’?

Spillane and Barry do drop back one at times. Kerry’s press was not as aggressive which means they give up the short kick out but keep a solid defensive structure.

Yesterday he spent most of his time again throwing his weight around and must have only been on the ball a handful of times. When he was taken off against Dublin last year it was almost the winning of the game for them.

I know we live in a world now where you have to be seen to be saying the right thing the whole time and fair play to you Mick your obviously a better person than I because I found it funny/ironic that the 2 lads I mentioned that like to use their massive bodies to collide with players from opposite teams actually collided with eachother.

It is popular to say that Aidan O'Shea is overhyped but I can't remember the last time someone made the case that he is a good player.
If he is to be overhyped, who is saying he is this great player? He's a big man who tries to work hard for his team. I am not sure is anybody saying he is any kind of world beater.
