It looks like this game has been switched out of Clones to Inniskeen. Yet to see a statement from County Board on this but the Kerry Gaa and Gaa websites have the game down for Inniskeen so it looks likely.

Far better than travelling to clones. Straight up the M1 and take the Dundalk exit.

Was the pitch not an absolute bog when we played there in the league a few years ago?

Was the pitch not an absolute bog when we played there in the league a few years ago? We've played there a few times, David Moran unfortunately done his cruciate up there. Its far better than Newbridge although that's not hard. The pitch can be heavy though... Stoney Grey Soil of Monaghan and all of that.

Yet to be announced by the county board but hopefully they don't leave this go on too long. It needs to be confirmed where the game is played a.s.a.p.

Was never there, been to Clones. What size of a place is it and what's the parking situation like. More importantly any decent spot for a porter after??

It’s in the middle of nowhere, we did pass a pub at a crossroads if I remember correctly a few miles before we got there. Do not park in the ‘car park’ if you want to make a quick getaway, no cars were allowed out until all pedestrians had gone, we were sitting in the car for over twenty minutes so this time we will park on the roadside. We weren’t allowed go home the way we came either so got totally lost. All in all it was a memorable, for all the wrong reasons, experience.

Not sure why they would play it there, nothing wrong with Clones. Never been there but it reminds me of the venue in Edendork when we played Tyrone 2 years ago. Hopefully the weather holds out that weekend as it seems a very open ground.

To be fair it’s not as bad as Edendork, Iniskeen does at least have a small stand. I think Monaghan have a decent enough record there and the atmosphere is always better in a small ground. I would love if Kerry could return the favour someday and drag another county to Portmagee or Gallarus but we are too sporting for our own good. I am aware these grounds aren’t up to inter county standard but then again neither was Edendork. Anyway we will still travel and hope for a better result this time.

I agree fully, bringing a league game to somewhere like JP O'Sullivan Park or somewhere similar wouldn't be a bad shout. The only issue would be turnstiles I'd imagine and obviously parking. The last couple of league games have been in Inniskeen and I always remember them being close games so that's probably why they moved.

Thanks for all the info lads, just google street viewed Inniskeen there. A bit of a blink and you'll miss it kind of spot with the pitch outside the village itself. While I'm sure there are people who go to inter county games like this and then head straight home, surely the GAA appreciate that others enjoy the more social aspects of matches esp when your making the trip as an away supporter. Its hardly asking too much to put a D1 League game on somewhere that might have a few pubs/restaurants within walking distance so people can have a drink or get some food before or after the match. Given the past two years we've endured you would think the powers that be might understand the importance of this aspect of a sporting event!! I agree with a few others on here, next time Monaghan are coming down we should repay the compliment. I could ask if Mountcoal was free

The pitch is 9km from Carrickmacross and 17km from Dundalk.
Hardly a big inconvenience if visiting from Kenmare or Kilmoyley.

Inniskeen is a handy spin for me from Dublin. I would get there in about an hour from where I live. The last time we were due to play there was when Covid kicked in. I think the previous time was when it was rescheduled because of snow. I was also there when David Moran did his cruciate for the first time.

I agree with a few others on here, next time Monaghan are coming down we should repay the compliment. I could ask if Mountcoal was free I think Forum members should meet for a pint at games, let's nominate a venue and people can go there, be it on the eve, morning or post game. I suggested it previously, it can but doesn't have to tie in with Supporters Club as they often over-night on the journey up. Still I've had a few bevvies with 'em post games in years gone by, had a caint with Weeshie over deochín in Omagh of a Sunday. Forum members meeting in Dublin would be amazing, standard would rise here then as the masks would have slipped! I know a few personally and we've traded favours, brings out the best of the GAA. BTW I getting through Marty Morrisey's book - gone past the nice chatty part to where he is now offering opinions. I'll report back in due course. So far I can confirm it is a nice straight forward read that takes you with it, I didn't knew much of his background so a few surprises in there - and yeah, he has you with him on his heroes journey, ever step of the way, with a few warts for good measure, there is a lot packed into the 5'7" of him alright. An no, I am not a recommender, well not a paid on anyway, though I do believe he was up here recently, ah he's been through a bit and anyone would wish him all the best, I am a fan.

I thought it was Scotstown where David Moran did the cruciate. I wasn’t at that game but I have been to Iniskeen and I thought that was Kerry’s first time playing at the venue.

I won't make the Monaghan trip bud as I have to take my son to the airport, and I'm 50/50 about going Sunday, this Covid has made me lazy and a bit soft 🤔

What is the capacity in Inniskeen, I read in an article from 2010 that it was 3,750 but not sure if it is still that or has it been changed since then but under 4,000 capacity would seem very small considering there was more than that at some McGrath Cup games.
