Holy fook what a load of rubbish that was by Kerry, very hard to pick 1 player that played well
We were right to be worried about our half forward line and I was glad Burns was taken off but In fairness Moynihan and Paud Clifford Savage didn't do much better, Seán O'Shea is not a midfielder and he needs to get back into the half forward line.
David Clifford looked totally dis interested, Geaney back to his old self and killian did his usual only played for 1 half.
We need big changes for next week, and even with that I think the dubs will beat us after watching both games.
Are our lads using a ball in training because it doesn't look like they are.
Shocking and sickening.

2011 rubbish that cost us an All-Ireland makes its return today. Appalling stuff. Bright side is the keeper jersey looked decent

I live up here and Dublin haven't feared us in a decade. Most of their fans think we have 1 top forward, a couple of decent backs and thats it. They also think we are mentally weak when it comes to a dog fight finish and we shrink under pressure. the dubs are right, our team has no stomach for a fight and everyone can see it now.

I was only able to listen to the game on Internet but after reading the comments here I think most people at home over rate a lot of the players. Even the commentator on KR said that Kildare were taking the game "to this star studded Kerry team". A star studded Kerry team is one with a bucket full of All Ireland medals.

We've always done well against the Dubs in the league so I wouldn't read much into next Sat night. Dublin are on the way down - its the only place top teams tend to go.
On the matter of Adrian Spillane, much like Jack Barry, are we going to win an All Ireland with them starting? Adrian battled manly throughout but in the 1st half soloed into a tackle and was turned over. Did the same in 2nd half, and they went up the field for a rousing score. He then gave away 2 late frees. 3 points handed to them. He wasnt helped by the out of position and an anaemic Seanie O'Shea on the day of course.
But some consistent questions and themes emerging - from before today and again today: 1. Foley struggles once pacey attacker gets out in front; 2. Murphy can't offer resistance from the marauding runs of the middle 8; 3. K.Spillane only plays in a burst and then fades rapidly; 4. Geaneys legs are gone at the top level; 5. Our wing forwards rarely if ever score; 6. Our forwards try low percentage, eye of the needle passes to a heavily marked Clifford and we cough up ball; 7. We dont show enough patience and craft to work high percentage chances for our marksmen, instead relying on them to score individual worldies; 8. We turn over far too much cheap posssession; 9. We lack size and power in the forwards; 10. Our Keepers can crack fairly easily.

On the fun side you could have headlines next week of "Jack's give Jack the sack"

Gavin White going off was a huge turning point. He was breaking the line every time and was worrying the Kildare defence which allowed our other players a bit more space. Once he went off we had no one to drive forward and we ended up building up very slowly. Hopefully his injury is not serious we need him.

Unfortunately, he seems to get injured an awful lot; some players are like that. Wasn't even a bad challenge or a heavy fall he took today. In an earlier incident though, he burst through the middle and was hauled down from behind when a goal chance looked on. Why no black card? - it looked textbook to me. Don't think Coldrick even gave a yellow.

Maybe people are right and Kerry have nt the stomach. I don't know but what I do know is we were blessed to get a draw and Kildare were the better team. Our midfield was cleaned out in 2nd half and our forwards very poor. Jason Foley prob our Man of match. Our sideline were poor too. Jack and his selectors had a bad day at the office. I was so annoyed at the game with so many things including David Clifford. He has so much talent but drives me crazy at times taking on low percentage shots and also get involved in silly stuff. He kicked a Kildare player in the ankles in the first half for no reason. Every game he plays he acts silly and don't give me the narrative he s being picked on. Also a imo neither Dara Moynihan or Burns are Kerry senior county standard. Seanie Ó Shea is a forward. Some of our passing was cat. Jack Savage gave away a silly pass to a Kildare player when under no pressure. In fairness to Killian and Geaney the supply of ball into them was brutal. Very frustrating watching Kerry today and relieved to get the draw against maybe the weakest team in the division. Murphy in goals makes me nervous too. But other than that, things are good?

A few reality checks over the coming weeks will expose Kerry's weaknesses even more. Far better to to expose them now than in June and July. Armagh played some massive games in the McKenna cup recently and it showed last night. Kildare put up a good enough display in the OByrne cup Kerry had to contend with the futile McGrath Cup. So over the coming weeks Kerry will learn where they are. 4 of the last 5 league games are v Ulster counties so hopefully they won't take the foot of the gas in preparation for the Ulster championship. If the limitations that Taggert outlines are not addressed by the end of the league then Kerry can forget about winning the All Ireland.

But other than that, things are good? have a look back at the game, all I could see were the boys outside looking up for the pass inside, but no movement, on a few occasions they moved away from the ball or got turned over, there man came from behind. I think the bottom line we lost the middle of the park in the second half, one man and his dog knows, if you ain’t getting change around the middle, your going to struggle, I think that’s a big part of what went wrong in the second half, I did think they actually won the first half i lar na pairce, hence the platform for our lead. Hard game was needed and we got it.

Codrick was poor today - his decisions on the White fouls were a joke - a ticking for the first one, a yellow for the section - classic cop outs. Kildare were given two frees in the first half where their forward in possession was bottled up - couldn’t see any fouls, both were good defending. Early days but a lot of chickens coming home to roost today - Burns, Moynihan & Adrian Spillane looked well off inter county standard - sadly not for the first time - Jack Savage, Greg Horan too.

Lads this forum is bipolar. How about we give the players and Jack 3/4 league games and then we can make a call on them.
We were all elated after last week and after one poor second half on a tight pitch, in horrendous conditions, we want lads burned at the stake.
We really lacked a fetcher today and if we had one, probably Moran, the. It would have made a huge difference. We had to go short most of the time and it just meant that we had to build from our 21 against the wind, which is virtually impossible to do.
Bring back in some ball winners and suddenly our forwards will look a lot better. All our half forwards had to drop deep into our half to get on the ball and this hindered everything. 1/2 ball winners in the middle and we’d look like a completely new team

A reality check for Kerry, A few things I picked out today for what it's worth.
Gavin White's penetrating runs are a big asset to us, Also Shane Murphy's kick outs to an on rushing White is a smart tactic, White's injury was a turning point, Ben McCormack was very lucky to get away with a ticking for his first foul.
When we hit the inside line quickly and accurately we cause teams problems, We seemed to stop doing it today for some reason, similar to the Tyrone game last year.
We need a midfielder that can make big catches at key times, David Moran would have been handy in the last quarter today, Diarmuid O'Connor's return will help the situation,
Seanie O'Se is needed in the half forward line. At least 50% of the forwards jerseys are up for grabs, Burns,Moynihan,Geaney,Savage,Horan did not take the opportunity to lay a marker today, Killian Spillane started brightly but faded quickly after also.
It's early days and no time to panic but, it's a good while since Kerry won a tight game, a worry

The backs played pretty well I thought for the most part they didn't really look like getting a goal. Forwards bar paudie imo were all fairly poor we need a bit of pace upfront a la o brien in 19 . Did people think kildare weren't going to be up for this and that a fairly makeshift midfield was going to dominate? It was bloody great to be at a match , Jack Barry and o connor into that game and we would've won by 4 id say. Plenty to work on obviously but some of the over the top comments here would make a fella wonder about posting here at all tbh.

Can't add alot to what was said but Kildare fully deserved something from that game.
We looked noticeably smaller too and we just don't look physical enough in the HF or HB lines.
Dan O Donoghue had a fine game as did Tom O Sullivan.
I hate saying this but Paul Murphy as courageous as he is is just not big enough.
Although Savage gave a very bad pass to Clifford resulting in a score I still thought he offered way more than Burns and atleast he has a bit of fight in him. We have no badness in that team all a bit nice.

We were all elated after last week a 'Elated' after beating Cork with Jack Savage the only one kicking a few points from distance apart from the Clifford brothers. Todays opposition was far more realistic and the opposition will get better. Its whats needed. Cork were very poor v the Rossies today.

No matter what I said you’d disagree, honestly you need to change the record a bit because it’s becoming tedious as f*ck. I feel like my hormonal teenage sister is following me around this forum. Look back at the comments after the cork game, nearly everyone thought we were flying.

Far more benefit in a level of introspection and soul searching when faced with some harsh realities rather than dreaming of how great we might be after vanquishing the feeble entities that make up the McGrath cup.

This weekend's division 1 results have shown that every game is going to be a dog fight of good quality. At the end joc will know who has the stomach for the fight and who has not. Due to covid the last two league campaigns were disjointed and uncompetitive. Positive from today would be that all the backs played well enough, blockages further up the field which hopefully will get sorted as we move through the league and leaders are found.

I expected Kerry to win at their ease, I didn’t think Kildare had the ammunition to trouble us. At half time I thought we were comfortable enough and that they would push on in the second half. I was very wrong. It was a fantastic atmosphere in St Conleth’s park and the crowd were mad for action. It was great to see the pubs in the town busy again and big crowds at games once again. Gavin White was a massive loss to us, he was the only one really punching holes in the Kildare defence. He was fouled by Ben Mc Cormack, who should have had a black card earlier and his race was run. Hopefully his injury isn’t too serious. The introduction of Kevin Feely was the turning point in the match, for me. Kev is a serious player and is only back from a cruciate injury. He caught some amount of ball and allowed Kevin Flynn provide a platform for Kildare attacks. Jimmy Hyland was very good but Dan Flynn was well marshalled by Jason Foley for much of the second half. Kerry’ s play in the second half was turgid, conservative and lacking in energy. I felt sorry for Morley, Sullivan, Murphy et al as they had very few options having worked the ball out. Dara Moynihan and Mícheál Burns had poor days, as had Paul Geaney. Paudie Clifford work tirelessly but found the tight confines of the Newbridge pitch claustrophobic. David was well off the pace today, he got three points from limited opportunities but was well managed by Ryan Houlihan. The lateral passing over and back played completely into Kildare’s hands and most of their scores came on the break. I seem to remember this lateral passing disease infecting previous incarnations of Jack O Connor’s teams. I really hope it’s an early season once off. Kildare really took the game to us in the second half and our reaction was more than disappointing. Early days and lots to ponder.

At the end of the day we’re better off being tested in the league and finding out where our weaknesses are rather than steamrolling every team. A few very tight battles will be beneficial to our game management too which is very likely to come into play in the All Ireland series. The key for me is that we improve from game to game and address any problems in our performances. For the Dublin I expect personnel changes especially with Diarmuid O’Connor being available and Jack Barry might come into it too. I think we could see anything from 2 to 5 changes to the starting team to play Dublin.

Most other teams in Division 1 had a head start on Kerry so abysmal was the McGrath Cup vis a vis the McKenna Cup for instance. By the end of March it will be apparent where Kerry are.

It’s the best thing that could have happened really, well done Kildare, looked like they had real hunger for it, In the immortal words, ‘It’s only the league’,
It’s impossible to read anything else in to this other than it’s the first match of the league, likewise if we won by 10 you’d have to say the same thing,
I predict Kerry will improve next weekend and we could have a better result,
