Big night for all involved trying to push on hurling in Rathmore on Wednesday night
Play St Brendans C in the county junior final. St Brendans won last year final v Rathmore bt a score or two
Dual play Luke Crowley( son of Johnny) missed last year final through injury, he might be the difference this year
A small group of mentors in Rathmore have worked hard to promote juvenile hurling for over the last 15 years or so, many give up when the football gets more serious at 15\16 but they have got numbers from underage to adult. A junior championship would be reward for the efforts

The M Quirke in the Austin Stacks team is father of Michael Quirke, Kerins ORahillys and Kerry An Austin Stacks team that just couldnt get a lucky break in hurling finals, lost 3 of them Had some tremendous hurlers John Barry, Niall Sheehy, David Lucid etc Had the Stacks team of that era won 9ne or both of those county finals you'd wonder where the club would have went. They had been in the wilderness in football for a long time at the stage and had won a minor hurling title. Similarly had Killarney won two in the row at that time could hurling in South Kerry been different? Only Kilgarvan in the mid 70s and Kenmare in the early 90s there hadn't been a South Kerry team in a county final.

Rathmore won a county junior in 1987 but were not fielding 2 or 3 years later I think they are in a better position this time around to solidify hurling in the club. Had minor teams in 2021 and 2022 and have had juvenile teams for about 15 years now. Bigger population now in Rathmore and better facilities than back in 1987. All helps Some display by Luke Crowley in the final, he really showed why he made the kerry under 17 hurling team and then the kerry under 20 hurling team in 2022. He didnt play under 20 hurling with Kerry in 2023 as he was with the footballers. It is great to see a hurler of his ability come through the ranks in Rathmore

In late 1960s hurling was stronger at adult level than football in Austin Stacks, it was all the Rockies had really in terms of a team in contention for titles at adult level. They couldnt seem to catch a break in those 3 senior finals If they had won a senior would hurling have pushed on in the club? perhaps but then again Killarney won a senior in 1969 and 3 years later had no team having been a vibrant hurling club in the 1950s and 1960s. I think it was the great dual player Johnny Culloty said the advent of the county football leagues in the early 1970s was a big factor in the demise of hurling in Killarney hurling club in that it led to so many extra football games, meant less of a window for the hurling

I sometimes wonder what the CB think about with club hurling. Parnells and Kilmoyley weren't left enter the U21 championship together as they'd be too strong despite having less than 20 players between them. Yet Kenmare/Kilgarvan/Crokes are left enter a team. Causeway also not fielding a team.

It is no surprise Kenmare\Kilgarvan\Crokes play together at under 21, it has been that way for a few years. I see Ballyheigue beat them today

Luke played Kerry minor hurling in the past and under 20 hurling in 2022, not in 2023 as it clashed with football so he is certainly on the radar of kerry hurling selectors Another good hurling success for Rathmore last weekend, beat Parnells ( 2nd team) in the south kerry junior league final in a high scoring match after extra time. Crowley was the difference really nice win for Rathmore after their county championship success and also good to see Parnells fielding two adult teams

Yes now a holder of both a Kerry SHC & Cork SHC winners medal A nice collection to have to be fair. He hurled wing back all through the championship for Sarsfields including the final. I saw the game v Blackrock in the q-final, he had a great game number 5. You’d imagine after coming off a summer like that and now a Munster club campaign, he would be high up the food chain to play with Kerry again but maybe he doesn’t want to.

Lads anyone know when Crotta are expected to make their first outing in the Munster intermediate championship?
Always a big disadvantage that the County winners here have such a long, long wait to this fixture!

Always a big disadvantage that the County winners here have such a long, long wait to this fixture! Not ideal but look it didnt bother Kilmoyley in 2022, had a long break and ended up winning the Munster title afterwards Time for another kerry club to win that Munster title The North Kerry board provided a round robin senior NK championship in September, Crotta got matches in that and many of them are playing football with St Senans in the NK championship. They could be sharp enough owing to that The Waterford champions will also be coming off a long break too, so really no excuses Crotta have the talent to make an impact in Munster in my view - if Barry Mahony, Cillan Trant, Rory Mahony, Shane Nolan, Jordan Conway strike form I fancy them to go places

more medals for kerry hurlers at the weekend outside the county
John Mark Foley Kilgarvan at centre back for the Portlaoise hurlers at the weekend won a Laois intermediate hurling championship hurling medal. He has a good few Kerry intermediate hurling medals with Kilgarvan obviously
Portlaoise are back up senior hurling after the win, bit of a surprise they found themselves intermediate in the first place

Parnells play Banner from Clare in the Munster junior championship on Saturday in Mitchels. Be interesting to see how they get on. They did play in Munster a few years ago when Kilgarvan didn't after they'd won the Intermediate.

They did play in Munster a few years ago when Kilgarvan didn't after they'd won the Intermediate. Kilgarvan ran Banner very close last year, it became a shoot out between Clare senior Shane Meehan and Donal Down OSullivan Banner were able to feed more and better ball to Meehan so that made the difference Parnells must have a plan for Meehan or they are at nothing. Tadhg Brick or Morgan Madden might be men that could limit him All said though I give Parnells a right good chance

Parnells have a good outing narrow win v Dr Crokes in the South Kerry senior championship last Sunday so that match will have served them well
The other match in South Kerry hurling last weekend was the junior championship final betweem Rathmore and Dr Crokes that went to extra time. some excellent hurling in this s with Luke Crowley dual player lighting up the match when he came on after half time. His speed and quality edged Rathmore over the line by a point in extra time, he won and scored the winning free

Tralee Parnells will be kicking themselves as it was a game they should of won today, they left a lot of chances behind them,
As expected Shane Meegan done the scoring for Banner, he scored 1-8 out of their 1-10 total.

Great display from Parnells just didn't get the result in the end. All going well they should be able to hold their own at senior level next.

Delighted with my club the Banner getting through against a decent Tralee Parnells. Both sides were guilty of poor misses throughout the game.
But Shane Meehan showed why he is such a class act and a good penalty he got as part of his 1-8 total yesterday. He is also playing for Mary I and part of the clubs Clare U21 hurling and football championships so I hope that he gets a well deserved break. Hard luck to Tralee Parnells and I hope that they will continue the great strides of hurling in Tralee. We play Limerick’s feenagh kilmeedy in two weeks time in Ennis.
Just to add that Banner lost in this years Clare Junior A quarter final v Kilmaley after extra time, but like last year the remaining quarter finalists are either second or third teams in this grade. Which is why the Banner are representing Clare.
