we kept in the game by conceding no goals, but our attacking options were limited due to the way we set up.Get shane conway in an advanced position one on one ,give him ball and he ll do damage. You need pace and quick legs for croke park and and we re a bit lacking in that regard in some areas. Not an easy problem to solve with the small pool of players available

Clubs in Carlow play in the Kilkenny league and at a high level too.
This has been the way for some years and it has improved the standard in Carlow. The clubs play amounst themselves for the Carlow county championship. Not so long ago a Carlow club won the Leinster title.
So Kerry have done well all things considered.
Hurling is the top game in Antrim. A huge effort is being put in up there.
Kerry were caught really. They had to try to stop Antrim from scoring goals but this meant a less offensive approach. Yet about 6 scorable chances were missed and if they were taken the tactical approach would have been regarded as very wise indeed.

Yet about 6 scorable chances were missed and if they were taken the tactical approach would have been regarded as very wise indeed. This is an issue imo. Both the North and South Kerry clubs play each other far too much. They can play each other 4/5 times in a short space of time. The likes of Kilgarvin and Crokes have mosved out to play in the Duhallow and even Daugh played in the West Limerick league i don't think North Kerry clubs ever have done it. I know a few years ago there was a West Munster League but it didn;t last very long. If it was me, and this is just my own view, the North Kerry teams should look at playing in the West Limerick League instead of the North Kerry League or even Duhallow. It's worked with Carlow clubs. Mount Leinster Rangers got to an All-Ireland club final on the back of it and Down clubs also play in Antrim leagues. An aim should really be for a Kerry club to at least win a Munster Intermediate title. Again Mount Leinster Rangers won an Intermediate All-Ireland before getting to the senior final. Teams from Armagh, Monaghan and Fermanagh have won Ulter Intermediate titles, Mayo clubs have won Connaght titles and Meath abd Westmeath clubs in Leinster with afaik Raharney also won an All-Ireland Intermediate title.

I seldom watch the sunday game but i recorded it last sunday to see what the panel made of the Antrim v Kerry game.
Jackie Tyrell spoke for a few minutes about how Antrim won the game mainly due to kmpact of subs. Ursula whatshername made a few similar points. Over to Donal Og then and off he went saying Artrim are wasting their time going into the Liam McCarhy cup next year.
Neither of the three panellists nor Des with his big gormless grin on him uttered the word Kerry or mentioned a Kerry player.

The Kerry subs actually had a good impact too Antrim could beat Laois in 2021 and perhaps Dublin. I think they are a fine side, watched them 3 times v Kerry, last Sunday was actually their least impressive showing Some analysts have no appreciation of the tier 2 counties or knowledge either and I suppose no respect either I remember a Kilmoyley team beating Cusack and his Cloyne team in a Munster league semi final in the early 200Os and a Na Piarsagh team in the final that contained a few O'Hailpins, John Gardiner etc. It was a fine competition at the time and the fact that a Kerry club team turned over 2 tops Cork clubs to win it out didnt go down well at all. John Meyler was over Kilmoyley at the time and it was a famous win for them

Both Kerry and Antrim are nearer to playing to their potential that Cork are at the moment in hurling. Probably the most underachieving county in both codes now.
I see Westmeath beat Dublin last night.

good article but nothing new in it really Hurling is getting stronger in Tralee , also in East Kerry aside from Dr Crokes success in the intermediate championship - Rathmore and Firies have teams up and including under 16, St Pats hurling club tend to operate out of Kicummin, Kilgarvan are as strong in hurling now as they have been in a while, Kenmare have slipped a bit though. It will be interesting to see if Crokes go senior. Fair play to them if they do. A senior hurling team in Killarney town\east kerry would be novel and only good The Kerry senior hurling championhsip needs to get to the stage of 12 senior clubs, the 8 north kerry team and Dr Crokes, Tralee Parnells, Kenmare and Kilgarvan. In the interim, it would be could to see a divisional team from South Kerry. I see no reason why Kennare and Kilgarvan couldnt field as an amalgamation as Kenmare District, heck they played together in football as Kenmare District!

new format for the Joe McDonagh in 2021
6 teams in it
it is basically knock out, lose a match in your group and odds are stacked against you qualifying for the semi final

People are saying Corkes couldn't go up as it's too soon for them. But in reality there's no right time to move up but there could be a wrog time.

Is that actually true hurling man, might just be loose talk
If Dr Crokes go senior , well it is fairly simple they dont play intermediate
If Kenmare\Kilgarvan played together under the banner Kenmare District for example , that is also simple, both could play as clubs seperately in the interemediate championship
the county board will call this not the north kerry clubs
Back in the early 1990s, Austin Stacks beat Kilmoyley in senior county championship, St Pats east kerry ( including Dr Crokes players) beat Abbeydorney and Kenmare \Kilgarvan contested a senior county final
Stacks were very competitive then

They're argument is it wouldn't be fair on them if South Kerry players get to play in both Senior and Intermediate, ignoring the fact for years not only were North Kerry players getting to do thins some North Kerry clubs even had lads who were on the Kerry senior panel playing Intermediate! When Kenmare/Kilgarvin played in the senior a few years ago i think that's why they couldn't enter at South Kerry. I have also head a stry of the County Board trying to block Crokes from going senior, but have no idea a to why they would want to do that. I've said before Kenmare/Kilgarvin should ebeter as South Kerry, Crokes and St. Pats as East Kerry and Parnalls and Daugh as another divisional team. THe old South Kerry team just didn't work as the clubs were too spread out and there was little to no training done. When was the last time there was a South Kerry team? I remember tham still entering around 2007 or 2008. I also have a memory of a South Kerry team in the Intermediate championship within the last 10 years.

It looks as if the rivalry between them in the intermediate hurling championship is too strong for them to join together in the senior hurling as an amalgamation. It is probably very difficult to do an amalgamation for these clubs because of their focus on the intermediate and the teams are also stacked with dual players Is the south kerry hurling board even active anymore? I read Tralee Parnells want to play in the north kerry senior hurling league in 2021 , understandable. But you would have a good south kerry league with Parnells, Crokes, kenmare, Kilgarvan

Kilgarvan and Kenmare would be the mot likely i would think. But aslong as they're not being left play both senior and Intermediate i don't see it happening. Not ure what the story is with South Kerry Board. They were doing at lot at underage a few years ago but nt sure what the storty is at adult level. You would think Parnells would be better off in South Kerry. While they've made good progress already you'd think they'd still be a bit behind the North Kerry senior teams. Imo they'll need to win something soon to keep lads interested and be able to push on. They're having an Intermediate and Junior team this year i've head, so maybe the Junior team will play in South Kerry i'm not sure.

Yes there is a lot of activity at juvenile level in South Kerry - Rathmore and Firies have good numbers, St Pats\Dr Crokes seem to play together underage plus you have Kenmare and Kilgarvan
I just dont see the same activity at adult level in terms of competitions though 2020 is not a great year to judge on in fairness. You could have a cracking SK league and championship with Crokes, Parnells, Kenmare and Kilgarvan.
I suspected Parnells would manage a second team, they had big numbers togged for the intermediate final last year. It is encouraging if correct, be more encouraging if they have a minor team again in 2021

Two good players to have onboard. Would have thought Barry Mahoney would still have been in the footballers plans. The last few months, almost 12 at this stage, could be the best thing to ever happen Donal OSullivan. Having him fully fit would be a huge bust to both the footballers and hurlers.

Agree Barry OMahony and Donal OSullivan are great dual players . John Mark Foley and Gearoid Fennessy played minor with the footballers as well. Daniel Casey who starred this year in u20 hurling another dual player who missed out on u17/ minor due to injury. Michael Slattery another great footballer. Plenty more who play both at a high level. No shortage of talent !!
