lár na páirce said it all.
There was a hint of old Kerry today.
As far as Fenton is concerned I must paraphrase Mark Twain and say "Rumours of his invincibility have been greatly exaggerated".
I always said that if Kerry had the legs and could turn it into a football game, Dublin could be found wanting.
I think teams in Leinster can take a lesson from that and maybe Dublin will have to raise their game earlier than they would like. All good from our point of view.

Fair play to Dublin posters here. Classy in defeat.
A very good performance in HQ today with Kerry getting the balance right between defensive solidity and attacking threat.
Honestly felt Kerry were about 3 / 4 points the better team today with some strong performances from both established players and the new faces.
There has been a lot of ol' guff spoken in the lead up to this game both around the county and nationwide. Fitzy has done a fine job of managing a transition in a period where Dublin have had a superb outfit. Undoubtedly their best ever.
Slowly but surely he has gathered his forces and adapted our game style to bring us to position where we can now justifiably feel we have a team and panel to bring back Sam. A fair few posters here would maybe want to reassess their opinions. It's easy to throw unfounded and uninformed criticism around. Anyway it's only April but the season is really warming up. Bring it on.

Re the ref today - missed a few on either side but I have to say that he did a decent job and, crucially, we got a fair shake today for a change. We had a big let off with Griffin's challenge on Kilkenny after some farcical defending but, on the other hand, both Philly and McCarthy could easily have walked. Mind you, Donnachadh was treading on thin ice also.
By the way, what a fabulous and brave point by Brian Sheehan at the end. Would have been knives out for him if he'd missed and Dublin had sneaked it.

Today will go down as "one of those special days" even if it was only the league. Hopefully we will look back and see this as a turning point/coming of age. Dublin are still very much the team to beat for Sam though and this defeat will give them added motivation.
It was a great indication of how Kerry were playing as when we reached the 50/55 minute mark it was generally felt that nobody should be replaced. Delighted for Eamon Fitz and as Fionn said this is a very close group of players, credit for this should mainly go to management.

Truly a special day and one that makes trudging all around the country worthwhile. The best thing about it was that the younger players were given their chance on the big day against the best team in the country and stood up to the challenge. The old dogs also played their part. David Moran and Donnchadh in particular looked like they would rather die on the field than leave in defeat. Referring to a previous post, Eamonn on this day proved that he is more of a Shackleton than a Scott. The work is far from finished yet but tus maith leath Na hoibre.

Very pleasing performance and of course result. Dublin started better and were playing lovely football the first 20 minutes. Kerry were working hard but were struggling to get much out of the Dublin defence. Whether deliberate or not, we were playing quite deep and showing a lot of respect to Dublin. The black cards were well deserved but Connollys was a brain dead one. At half time, I felt we were well in the game but fearful of the Dublin bench and the extra bit of class they have. However Kerry really upped their intensity at the start of the second half. This was typified by the likes of Kevin McCarthy, Morley, Murphy and the Geaney.
Dublin as expected responded but at least we kept the scoreboard ticking over and we attached with purpose.
We got there in the end with the overriding emotion being relief.
Standout performers were Moran again, Morley who stuck well with an impressive Kilkenny, murphy and griffin who other than a silly punch down displayed great leadership and attitude,

Excellent by all involved. Homework done on Dublin threats, 100% effort by every man. But like I said before, let's not get carried away by wins, or losses, at this stage in the year. In reference to my post earlier in this thread.... I rest my case.

Yesterday's game must have set a record on the scoring front - 17 different players scored in the 70 minute game. Very happy to see Kerry reduce the number of scorable frees conceded. This loss has been coming for Dublin - they have been scraping over the line in too many games recently and only time will tell if it rejuvenates them or is the begining of the end (too long on the road as distinct to a lack of talent). We need to forget this game quickly and get back to building for the Championship - an important step but irrelevant if we dont continue to progress.

Have I stumbled onto the Mayo GAA blog in error ? All of these moments in matches that you think diminish the greatness of the Dublin team merely diminish the point you are trying to make . We are now debating if a team that won four leagues and four all irelands in 6 years is great ? Your point makes zero sense.... I stand over what I said here. We are better than this Dublin team. I know it's only April but we've played them twice and should have won both. On this occasion we had officials who acted and didn't stand idly by and let things happen that shouldn't go unpunished. Connolly was caught and nailed for his stupidity. He did the same in the past to McHugh last year and got away with yellows given to both players because of poor officiating.... Yesterday he got his marching orders and rightly so and was a huge loss to Dublin. Make no mistake, this is a very, very good Dublin team and they will be back with hunger in their bellies after this defeat but I firmly believe Kerry are better all round but needed officials to spot the off the ball stuff! (Philly, McCarthy and Fenton should all have left the pitch as well though, Philly and McCarthy for striking and Fenton should have received black not yellow).

Congratulations to the Kerry team and management on a magnificent victory. It was a whole hearted performance with some great football played and magnificent scores. The victory was no more than the Kerry team deserved. It was notable too how grounded the players were afterward and nobody was getting carried away. It speaks of a huge ambition within this group who are only getting started. Moreover, the real benefit of this win will be seen down the line. Dublin and Jim Gavin will learn a lot from yesterday. Will we see Paddy Andrews and Bernard Brogan start in the same full forward line together again come the business end of this season? I doubt it. The likes of McHugh, Mannion, O’Callaghan and Costello can’t be far away from being preferred starters. However, it was through the middle of defence Dublin had real issues and conceding a huge score for them of 20 points will take up much of their analysis. Johnny Cooper and McGaffrey were big losses of course for Dublin but Kerry were missing players too and this fact won't be lost on Gavin. However, Dublin aren’t going away that’s for sure but neither are Kerry!
An interesting year ahead!

And so the wheel turns. Dublin have had their few years in the sun while we struggled in transition. But the great circle of life marches on. In the very same week that the Gooch retires from the Green and Gold, another bunch of warriors emerge from the hills and streets of Kerry to claim their place as champions on the national stage. Tadhg Morley, Ronan Shanahan, Jack Barry, Jack Savage, Kevin McCarthy and Gavin Crowley fitted in seamlessly alongside their more experienced colleagues and looked totally at home beating Dublin in Croke Park. Mark Griffin, Paul Murphy, Paul Geaney, Michael Geaney and Peter Crowley have evolved from the newbie champions of 2014 and have grown into seasoned leaders of men. In a few years time, the last of the great '04 to '09 era team will follow the Gooch into well-earned retirement only to be replaced in turn by the avalanche of underage talent that is now poised to snowball down from the mountains of Kerry and sweep all opposition before it. Kerry now holds the NFL, All-Ireland Minor, All-Ireland Club and All-Ireland Colleges titles. The U21s are Munster champions and favourites to be All Ireland winners before the month is out. Have we ever had a better Spring? We are well capable of dominating the coming decade just like we dominated decades past. The future is bright - the future is Green and Gold!

fantastic feeling to finally walk out of croke park after winning a big game against Dublin, its been 8 years since the last one to be honest. full credit to all kerry players yesterday, they were superb and deserved win. the only worry is we should have won that by 5 or 6 and we left Dublin back into it.
but, today is a day for positive reflection and we move on in a positive humour now. if you said two weeks ago that Kerry would be winning the league, youd have been laughed out of it, as it appeared to be completely implausible.
Morley getting alot of plaudits today, but he was in trouble for 30 minutes but after that, he thundered into the game and was great.
Moran outstanding, Gainey was terrible for 20 minutes, then took over. though Crowley was great but one man who is getting little praise today is Paul Murphy - he was magnificent. Ronan Shanahan had his best game for the county, great find and prospect.
griffan solid and won his battle, our kick outs were brilliant and up front, thought Mccarthy had a great game also until he tired.
thought we reacted to their subs a little late but we will surely learn from that also.

Ferocious stuff from Kerry yesterday who were backed by a large and vocal support. Connolly going off was a turning point though, he was looking in the mood. The full-back line was outstanding. Ronan Shanahan has come on leaps and bounds. Special mention to Fionn too who had his best game for Kerry I thought. Mikey Geaney was immense in the second half. I said it before and I'll say it again, he was a huge loss to Kerry in 2015. Savage really came into it in the second half and his use of the ball was top-class. Not much more to be said about Moran but if he can keep this form up Kerry will be hard to stop. Delighted to see Barry, McCarthy and Gavin Crowley producing the goods and not being phased. They absolutely tore in to Dublin. Morley is a great bit of stuff, a quare hawk! The one criticism I'd have is that Kealy appeared to panic slightly with the kick-outs after the goal. We lost 3 out of the next 4 I think.
Dublin still in the driving seat but Kerry have given the other contenders a template to follow. A memorable win and well done to the lads. Tactically, Fitzmaurice and co got it right.

Have we ever had a better Spring? in winning order, the following GAA titles now all reside in Kerry - National Football league. All Ireland Colleges (4 in a row) Munster U-21. Munster and All Ireland Senior Club. Munster and All Ireland Junior Club Munster Intermediate Club. Mcgrath Cup. All Ireland Minor (3 in a row) Munster and All Ireland Junior. all of that in less than 12 months.

I must say when I saw the teams I feared the worst for us. I didn't think we would win many of the match ups in our back line. To be brutally honest, I was giving the Dubs the nod in the majority of the match ups. Delighted I was wrong and yesterdays game has given me a renewed sense of optimism for the summer. If a person was watching their first ever gaelic football game, they would have assumed it was Kerry who were the team unbeaten in 36 games. Very satisfying day out and delighted I made the trip. Defensively, we were very good against an outstanding forward unit. Kealy has had a very solid league campaign, it seems like E Fitz goes every second year I was delighted for Fionn who capped his own fine performance with a nice touch in his speech. Griffin looks more assured with every game. Shanahan is a player who has impressed me with a few years now and delighted he has grabbed his chance, was very good on Andrews. Did struggle with Mannion. Crowley had one of his better league performances and never a player I tend to worry too much about. Morley was a contender for man of the match and has been a revelation this year. Murphy was good and a player I don't seem to worry about. Crowley did very well when introduced and certainly didn't look out of place. Moran and Barry were very good. Jack Barry looks a real player. Mikey Geaney, who I have been critical of before in that he doesn't offer much in terms of threatening the scoreboard, has completely transformed his game. On form, he is one of the better half forwards in the game. D Walsh his usual busy self and chipped in with a few scores again. Paul Geaney hit one particular terrible free and was slow attacking a couple of balls in the first half, however when decent delivery is given to him he remains one of the top forwards in the country. Savage was as industrious as we have seen him throughout the league campaign, a real clever footballer. K McCarthy did fine but perhaps may struggle to get game time when KD, Stephen O B and James O Don return. Darran O Sull and Bryan Sheehan are great players to be able to spring from the bench offering two contrasting styles but both very welcome. On a different note, Diarmuid Connolly is a player who I find so frustrating. He has so much talent but unfortunately for himself and the dubs, his application and discipline is non existent and he has cost them in numerous games. Fair enough some players make mistakes but Connolly never seems to learn from them and that is the issue I would have with him. He is a liability to the team and is just as likely to get the road in an AI semi or final. Lastly, finish on a good note. Well done to the Kerry management, panel and backroom staff on a great win and a very positive league campaign. The hard work and training is paying off and is well deserved.

Comment from a Kerry supporter after the game "Looking at the Dub supporters to-day, I know how we looked for the last 4 years".
After the final whistle, the sheer joy and smiles of the Kerry supporters said it all. What a performance by the entire Kerry panel. It was great to see so many "new" players playing so well, from Shanahan to McCarthy and sub Gavin Crowley. The experience gained from Kerry Junior & Templenoe stood to him.

Yesterday was bitter sweet for me. A great victory marred by the fact that I was in the sick bay for the weekend. It is a long time since I missed a significant Kerry/Dublin game in Croke Park but thank God for TG 4 and thank God for Brian Tyers, the best commentator there is. To compound my problems I am going to be out of the country for the rest the week, missing the minor and u21 matches. There is no end to the misery of an old man.
Based on what I saw in the NFL, I gave Kerry no chance. It is amazing the number of people who contacted me after the match saying they "had a feeling that we were going to win". They kept those feelings close to their chest the week before the match!
I and others have been critical of management and players all through this NFL. I have no doubt that criticism was justified. Our chief lines of criticism was 1. Giving away silly, baby frees. 2. The lack of work rate and personnel up front 3. Inability/reluctance to kick points from a reasonable distance. Looking at the TV, it appeared that these problems were addressed to a large extent and hence a platform for victory established, lucky enough at the end but overall deserved.
The opening stages were frustrating from a Kerry standpoint. It appeared that a lot of ball was going in but not stacking. Was this because of poor ball or lack of movement inside? I could not make this out , perhaps the lads at it maybe able to elaborate. Eventually, this matter seemed to be rectified and the situation evened out. The third quarter of course was decisive and it was interesting that it was Dublin who resorted to fouling when the pressure was applied. Only lack of guile prevented Kevin McCarthy from goaling which would have sealed the issue at an early stage. Instead , we had to sweat to the end. Indeed, it looked as if Dublin had claims for a penalty/free at the death. I was fuming with Anthony Maher when he pulled down Michael Fitzimons for that last free. It looked as if there were two Kerry players closing in on the Dublin man. Had Dean equalised I felt the momentum was with Dublin and they were likely to win in extra time. Anthony would have had to do a lot of explaining in that case. I will go further, I feel a blatant pull down like that merits a red card.
There seemed to be a little panic in the Kerry defence after the Dublin goal. In particular , Brendan had a few hairy moments.
Mark Griffin had a fine game but he needlessly broke down a ball which resulted in a Dublin point. It might seem petty to point this out but he did the same against Tyrone and fortunately got a away with it.
Tadgh Morley appeared to struggle early on but was tremendous as the game went on.
The last time Kerry beat Dublin was in March 2015 in a sleet ridden Killarney. Significantly, David Moran was a powerhouse on that day also.
I have never been a huge fan of Michael Geaney, mainly because he never seems to produce his energetic Dingle displays when he plays for kerry. Well, over the past two games he appears to be a different man. Perhaps, Michael reads this forum. Drive on Michael.
The three black cards were all deserved but Diarmuid Connolly was a far bigger loss to Dublin than Jonathan to us.
Two questions for the lads who were at the match: 1. Where did Gavin Crowley play when he came on? 2. Who picked up Paul Mannion when he was introduced?

Have to say well done to EF. He has come in for some stick over the last while but he got it pretty much spot on yesterday. For me it was a no brainer to start Barry in midfield. His legs are just what we needed against Dublin's athelicism.
Delighted for Mikey Geaney as well. Hasn't been a fans favourite but he has come of age in the last two outings. And Maurice Fitz and Liam Hassett must be giving Donnchadh Walsh one to one lessons on his shooting. Two incredible points from play and 6 the week before. More of that please!
With James, Enright and Young to come back and our U21s as well things are looking a lot rosier for the Kingdom.
The conveyor belt is ticking over nicely thank you very much Joe Brolly.

Kealy has had a very solid league campaign, He has, but he was a lucky boy Kerry won yesterday. He had two brain farts towards the end, one which almost resulted in a penalty when he scooped the ball to a Dublin player instead of just holding on to it and picking it up off the ground; the other time when he caught a deflected ball and kicked it straight out to a Dub instead of finding a Kerry player. He seemed to panic in both cases which was strange as he's generally very good in open play. His kickouts have improved a lot especially since the league final last year which costs him his place for the rest of the year. Otherwise a very good performance yesterday all around. Very happy for Michael Geaney especially after some of the abuse he got here. Also impressed with Gavin Crowley who hadn't featured at all in the league up to now AFAIK. As others have said Fitzmaurice will have a tough time picking a championship panel with the injured players and the u-21s to return.

On a more positive note it was Cluxton who had to pull off the goal bound shots yesterday. Kerry opened their defence up whereas we were pretty tight. Looking forward to watching the recording later this eve. Hard to spot everything at the game. One happy trip down yesterday evening. p.s. thank you Paul Curran for coming out with all that rubbish. Fitzy dealt with it really well and it think it helped galvanise the supporters to attend and make themselves heard yesterday. Plenty Kerry support. Great to see.

I'm convinced that like the Simpsons episode where Bart has an evil twin in the attic, the real Mikey Geaney is locked up in an attic somewhere by his twin who escaped and taken his place in the past two games who looks like he might have a shred of his cousin Paul's talent.

Well deserved victory for Kerry, no doubt the better team on the day. Plenty of energy and attitude from the younger lads, didn't look out of place on the big stage.
Dublin did a lot wrong, but particularly disappointed in Connolly, stupid and completely needless. Would go as far as to say if he stayed on we may have got there in the end.
From our point of view, Fenton was way too deep, ball into Brogan was awful, and we had a 15 minute period of nothingness. Although I was willing us home at the end it would have been undeserved.
I think the introduction of the mark is really helping Moran, one of the last of the old school midfielders.
The monkey is off your backs for the moment, and in a strange way off of ours, as the winning run just gave everyone who played us another target. You could see it in Monaghan last week too.
On the whole though, not too disappointed. Havent played consistently well in league, 20 minute cameos here and there. Team holiday in January, hardly any training before league. Still a few to come back into the team, especially Cooper who is so tigerish for us at the back, leads by example and others follow. That was really missing yesterday.

When he was given a viable option for a short kickout he usually found his man. In previous years he was capable of finding an opponent with pin point accuracy. It did look though that he lost his composure completely towards the end. Cold reins are needed at that stage and he looked as though his nerve had gone. Dublin do that to opposing keepers when they smell blood

He swatted two kerry lads aside before creating the goal. I expect Dublin to be in the all ireland final and johnny cooper, jack mccaffrey, con o callaghan and cosgrave on board. Different animal then going for immortality. I got a tap on the shoulder coming out of the ground...a work colleague from dublin offering congrats...then the knife slipped in..."whats seldom seen is wonderful"... The days of dublin having six better subs to come on against kerry are over...kerry will match that going forward... Hunger, luck and refereeing decisions will decide things from now on.
