Crokes and Stacks should do well. Dingle and Rathmore will be up there. Templenoe and O'Rahilly's,St.Mary's, and Glenbeigh should be ok. I think Miltown, Mitchels, Gaeltacht, and Desmonds will struggle.

Crokes to top the league again. Stacks and Dingle a close second. If Dingle do not have many in with Kerry they will be very strong but I expect both Tom Sullivan's, 2 or even 3 of the Geaneys and Barry O Sullivan to be training at the very least with Kerry which would make their job a lot tougher. Certainly a team that I expect to win a County Championship in the near future.
Milltown, Mitchels and Ghaeltacht to go.

Im not a John Mitchels man , even though my nephew plays with them, i can't understand those who again have predicted that they will be relegated. Ye must be anti John Mitchels or ye don't have an idea what yere on about as from talking to my nephew they have high hopes for this year and i certainly don't believe that John Mitchels will be relegated this year on anytime soon with the quality players they have that many clubs in Division 1 would like to have themselves.

Couple of fellas doing some serious work in the gym and think they have a few un-heralded heroes who can put the club towards the top of the division.

Desmonds could struggle this year and still no sign of a manager or trainer being appointed. Miltown/Castlemaine could find themselves in the same predicament if not sorted in the next week or two.

I sincerely hope that Pa 'Chalky' White isn't considering his future. He's a fantastic footballer and can really push the Desmonds forward this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he was on the verge of a bigger call up after this year.

Back to the old chestnut of fixtures - county players are supposed to be available to clubs for the first two rounds of the league yet the first two rounds clash with intercounty fixtures. First round is the day after we play Dublin (night before in Tralee) and the second round is the day after Kerry are away to Cavan. So either clubs lose out or player welfare gets put on the line..... The weekend of March 11th is the only weekend in March where there are no intercounty fixtures - surely this (allowing for the fact/hope Crokes will be playing March 17th) was the weekend when the county league should kick off. Is March 11th unavailable for some other reason?

Division 1 kicks off with a full program this weekend except for Crokes V Stacks which is deferred to June 24th.
Will it be a breakthrough league for Dingle or Templenoe or will we have Stacks & Crokes battling it out yet again for the honours.
Game on....

Dingle will struggle if Kerry progress in U-21 - they will be missing 6 U-21s plus the two Geaneys for the first 3/4 matches which could well scupper their chances of making a league final.

Dingle got two points against KOR despite not having their u21 talent playing. So perhaps their depth of talent is even greater than we give them credit for.

Looking at the results one thing stands out. Milltown Castlemaine picking g up points again. They must be in Division 1 for a long time. They ve won it 2 times? Hard taskmasters. Templenoe will need pick up results quickly.

Desmonds suffered a hiding from an understrength Austin Stacks on Saturday evening 5-14 to 2-8. Stacks got the scores when they had to - it was great to see Greg Horan near full throttle and O'Callaghan was on fire up front Desmonds look like they are heading to Division 2.They appear to lack spirit and Thomas Hickey is plowing a lone furrow in the forwards. Relegation mightn’t be a bad thing as the team strives to re build. In their 3 County league games so far they have only scored 3-23- an average of 1-7 a game – it would be interesting to see how much of this total has come from the boot of Hickey. At the other sides of the pitch they have conceded 7-37 in their 3 games –roughly that’s a whopping 2-13 a game. They will struggle once again for scores in the Intermediate Championship next weekend against Spa and an early exit from the Intermediate Championship could make for a very long year for the Castleisland lads.

Desmonds look like they are gone even at this early stage especially with Milltown, Mitchels and G'beigh/ G'car with positive starts. I think Templenoe will struggle to retain their div 1 status with Morley, Adrian Spillane and Gavin Crowley likely to miss the majority of their league games. Killian may also miss a few games if he is training with Kerry. They did get a draw down in Dingle the weekend but Dingle were also very understrength and Templenoe will be up against it now I feel. I think these two will go and I think it will be a toss up between Mary's and An Ghaeltacht for the last relegation spot. It will be crucial for An Ghaeltacht to get back Cathal O Luing and Rob O Se once the u21s is over. I can't see Cathal being kept inside with Kerry once the u21s finish and if they can add Tomas O Se for a few games then it gives them a better chance than Marys in staying up I think. Was at the Crokes and An Ghaeltacht game on Saturday before I headed for Dublin. It was played in absolute perfect conditions for a game and it was an exciting game. Crokes started with 12 of the All Ireland starting team. Jason Lyne came in for Gavin White at 6, Shane Doolan came in for Fionn Fitzgerald at 7 and Jamie Doolan came in for Johnny Buckley at 10. Both sides were without players involved in u21 and senior panels but this affected Ghaeltacht more so than Crokes. Crokes played with a stiff enough breeze behind their backs in the first half and retired with a 6 point lead at the break. 1-7 to 0-04, a scrappy goal coming from Brian Looney that Ghaeltacht would rather forget. The boys from the west regrouped at half time and returned a different team. They had reduced the margin to one within 7 or 8 minutes of the restart with a goal coming through a fine finish to the roof of the net by Padraig Oigi O' Se. Crokes rallied and Daithi Casey blazed over to put 3 pts in it but to the shock of the Crokes players the referee waved it wide. This brought major protest from a few of our lads and resulted in Colm Cooper being yellow carded and Gavin O Shea seeing red for shouting expletives at the referee. This decision seemed to galvanise Crokes and Daithi Casey and Kieran O Leary were to the fore in the remaining 15 minutes to run out 6 point winners. Quiet day for Shane Murphy kickouts were good, didn't get an opportunity for any frees and couldn't do anything about the goal. Padraig Oigi was lively and had a decent tussle with John Payne, other than the goal Payne edged this one. Mike Smiler had the measure of Eanna O Conchuir who had a quiet game for his standards. Crokes half back line seemed to be error prone and Ghaeltacht failed to take advantage of it. Midfield broke even. Brian Looney had a good first half on the wing scoring 1-2, Mairtin ? struggled to curb the threat of Looney. PJ Hand struggled in first half to get close to Jamie Doolan, Doolan was industrious and delivered a few pinpoint passes to the inside line. PJ Hand was moved to Looney and did a good job on limiting him. Marc O Se picked up Colm and they had a good tussle with Marc slightly edging it I would say. Kieran O Leary was picked up by a number of opponents, none who seemed capable of nullifying his threat. Daithi Casey had a quiet first half but was excellent in the second half when badly needed. Sean M O' Conchuir who was withdrawn early (I presume he got a knock), Luke Quinn had his number. Dara O Se kicked a couple of beauties and was probably the best for the men in White and Red.

Return of county league this week How are rahilyys and stacks fixed Decimated by players going to the US I'd imagine. Stacks should have a decent bit more strength in depth as they have been very strong at underage level for the last few years Other than the 21s that won the championship in 2015- Strand Road are at feckall at underage level as they are in a part of town with very little new development and I can see this struggle starting to manifest itself in the next year or so

Division 1 fixtures for this coming weekend - two other games pushed to June 24th (as well as the R1 game between Stacks and Crokes). 03/06/2017 18:30 John Mitchel's/Na Mistéallaigh - vs - Dr Crokes Venue : Boherbue (John Mitchels) Referee : Eamonn Moran 19:30 Kerins O`Rahilly's - vs - Austin Stacks Venue : Healy Park, Ballyrickard (Kerins O Rahillys) Referee : Tom Moriarty 19:30 Templenoe - vs - Milltown/Castlemaine Venue : Templenoe Referee : Brendan Brosnan 04/06/2017 14:00 St Mary's - vs - Glenbeigh-Glencar Venue : Caherciveen Referee : Donal Casey
Also I see Mitchels are down to play in Boherbue - a pitch that is gone for a few years with their new complex off the Castlemaine road and the Stacks game is probably on in the main KOR pitch and not Ballyrickard (can anybody confirm?)
