Might Aswell get this started to keep us ticking over through the Christmas period. Since the all Ireland winners will be on holidays for the first few rounds who would people like to see stake a claim?

I don't know about this man. Alot of people get very grumpy about these sorts of threads around here...don't mention Tommy Walsh, that really pisses some off...maybe we should talk about the 2016 Kerry minor team instead?!!!! lol

Seeing as the team itself are going on holiday, the U21's in Hastings cup and colleges having first choice on players we will be looking at a very unfamiliar team. perhaps Darragh O Suilleabhan Dingle, Tomas Ladden Keel, maybe midfield pairing? The likes of Conor Cox in the off chance that he is around, Mark Reen was there for whole campaign last year,Gavan O Grady maybe any thoughts ? Can't think of any defenders and that is a problem.

Would imagine the 1st game v Tralee IT will be made up of some Kerry juniors,Stacks lads & A few Eamonn would of been keeping an eye on this year.
Would expect to get over Tralee regardless and have a much stronger hand for the semi

From the Juniors last year who haven't any other commitments you would think Shane Murphy, Kevin Dwyer, Brendan Sullivan, Philip O'Connor, Edmond Walsh, Ciaran Keating, Paul Kennelly would have at least a chance to make a claim anyway

I see Michael Cuss en has been re-invented by god cork must be at the bottom of the barrel now if Cussen is back in the squad, i suppose JBM will give him a shout for the hurlers later on in the year. its a joke the lad wouldn't have the pace for midfield i sure he be be threw into the full forward spot before the ball is threw up.

With the squad in south Africa until Monday morning, the u21' playing Cavan and preference given to the college teams for players, our team next weekend will be very very interesting.
Assuming the u21 game is on Saturday, Perhaps it will be a mixture of that, last years juniors and minors which would be really exciting to see.
Either way you can be sure of pretty much 15 senior debuts next week apart from Tommy Walsh and maybe Conor Cox will be involved as the NK final is Saturday.

Anyone know what players are with the college teams? Mary I and UL both playeed and lost today. I would think both would have quite a few Kerry lads between them.
Im going to make a total guess at what a team might look like. Im going to let out all the Under 21s and Stacks players and bar in mind some of theses fellas may be playing with a college team.
1. Sean Og O'Ciardubhain Cordal. Not sure if Shane Murphy is still underage or not for Under21, if not id give him the nod 2. Kevin O'Dwyer Waterville 3. David Culhane Ballylongford 4. Nathan Breen Beaufort 5. Marcus Mangan Milltown/Castlemaine 6. Jack Sherwood Firies 7. Tadhg Morley Templenoe 8. Brendan O'Sullivan Valentia 9. Tommy Walsh Kerins O’Rahillys 10. Philip O'Connor Cordal 11. Gavan O’Grady Glenbeigh/Glencar 12. Alan Fitzgerald Castlegregory 13. Thomas Hickey Castleisland 14. Paul Kennelly Ballydonoghue 15. Ciarán Keating Skellig Rangers
This is based on who i think would be available to be picked. Quite a few who were part of both the Under 21 and Junior teams i wasn;t sure if they were over age for Under 21 so iv left them out. Other who were part of the panel, im not sure weather or not they are on the team holiday or not so i left them out

Kerry players selected on the UL team were 2 Eamonn Kiely (Brosna), 3 Cathal Long (Dingle), 6 Denis Daly (St Mary's) & at number 11 Brian Crowley (Templenoe). Not sure about Mary I.

Although named on the team, Brian Crowley didn't line out with UL yesterday. Not unexpected given he played with the under 21s on Saturday.
Match reports from yesterday's games below..

Déise shake off gutsy UL fightback www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/football/deacuteise-shake-off-gutsy-ul-fightback-305133.htmlMonday, January 05, 2015 By Tomás McCarthy McGrath Cup: Waterford 1-16 University of Limerick 2-7 Waterford withstood a second-half fightback from UL to post the first victory of Tom McGlinchey’s tenure at a calm Carriganore yesterday. The Déise held an 11-point lead at one stage but two Gearóid Hegarty goals brought the students within three. But Waterford settled and late points from Patrick Hurney and Gavin Nugent secured the win to set up a quarter-final against Cork IT next week. McGlinchey was pleased and his side’s display saw nine different scorers and 1-15 from play. “It was good to get the win and we are happy we have another game Sunday,” he said. “There was a lot to work on but they started well. We knew UL would be physically fit and they came at us in the second half. The lads weathered the storm well and finished strongly. There is a lot to work on but still very happy with the performance.” The new boss welcomed back full forward trio Patrick Hurney, Gavin Nugent and Joey Veale to the fold after a year away and they contributed 1-7 from play between them. “We want the best players playing for Waterford and it’s great to have those three back because they hadn’t played last year, for one reason or another. All three made a huge contribution. Joey was a big loss when he went off with an injury but he will be right again. Gavin Nugent carried the game in the second half when we needed him at centre forward and Podge is only getting back training now so once he has another few weeks under his belt, he’ll get better again.” Michael O’Halloran and Ray Ó Ceallaigh made competitive debuts in an experienced line-up. The hosts started well and a direct approach yielded a 1-8 to 0-2 half-time lead. A flowing three-man move featuring Veale and Paul Whyte allowed Hurney goal after seven minutes. The returning Ballinacourty attacker posted 1-3 in all. Paul Whyte orchestrated things at centre-forward and kicked four points (three from play). Waterford raced 11 points clear on the restart as David Grey and Tommy Prendergast landed points. But then the students, managed by Liam Kearns, staged a mini-recovery. Gearoid Hegarty caught a Denis Daly delivery on 48 minutes and fired to the bottom corner. The Limerick midfielder touched home a second to leave just three points separating the teams. But late doubles from Hurney and Nugent lifted the pressure off Waterford. Scorers for Waterford: P Hurney 1-3; P Whyte 0-4 (1f); G Nugent 0-3; S Ahearne, T Prendergast, D Grey, M O’Halloran, J Veale, M Curry 0-1. Scorers for UL: G Hegarty 2-0; A McLoughlin, C McInerney (1f) 0-2; A Rowan, D Daly, S Killoran 0-1. Subs: D Grey for Veale (25); S Prendergast for T Prendergast (55); D Hallahan for Grey (61); R Ó Ceallaigh for Phelan (62); L Ó Corraoin for O’Halloran (67). Cuthbert: Romp no benefit to Rebels www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/football/cuthbert-romp-no-benefit-to-rebels-305129.htmlMonday, January 05, 2015 By Denis Hurley McGrath Cup: Cork 7-20 Mary I 0-4 En route to winning last year’s McGrath Cup, Cork beat both LIT and UL, so they will hope yesterday’s victory over Mary Immaculate College at Mallow proves to be a good omen. Very little else can be taken from a 37-point win, however, and Cork manager Brian Cuthbert admitted afterwards little could be taken from the game bar the progression to a quarter-final tie with Tipperary next weekend. “It was what it was, to be honest,” he said. “Mary I is a very small college, when they’re up against one of the counties it’s going to be very difficult for them, I wouldn’t be reading too much into it. If you look at our results against college sides last year, it was similar. For the colleges, they get more games but I don’t think anyone wants (big scores like) that.” While Cork got three points in the opening five minutes, the wait until the 17th for John Hayes to add a fourth suggested Mary I might frustrate the home side. But the ante was upped considerably after that. The score was 0-9 to 0-1 with five minute to half-time when George Durrant found Brian Hurley and he in turned hand-passed across goal for wing-back Jamie O’Sullivan to palm home. Soon after, Michael Cussen – playing his first Cork football game since the 2009 All-Ireland final – sent a nice ball in to Hayes, who sidestepped goalkeeper Anthony O’Connell before finishing. While Conor Rabbitt got his and Mary I’s second point, Fiachra Ó Deasúnaigh then rounded off a flowing move to leave it 3-9 to 0-2 at half-time for Cork. The Bishopstown man showed up well, as did the likes of Daniel Hazel and George Durrant. The newcomers will be afforded more chances, though, by and large, Cuthbert feels the panel is more settled than a year ago. “Last year, we were coming into this competition minus seven or eight stalwarts. This year we’re a bit more settled, we know what we have, we don’t have any dual players. “I’d like to think we’re a bit more settled and fellas are a bit more aware of what this is all about. We’ll take it week by week, we’re happy with the work we’ve done but we’ve a long, long way to go.” A raft of half-time changes did little to weaken Cork, though one – the insertion of Eoin Cadogan into midfield – may have raised a few eyebrows. He got an early goal, when O’Connell’s save rebounded off him and in, while two more subs, Colm O’Neill and Donncha O’Connor, got in some shooting practice too. Another replacement, Colm O’Driscoll, got the fifth goal after O’Connor picked him out and O’Connor himself raised a green flag late on before O’Driscoll got a second. A game which won’t be remembered for too long but it means more game-time against Tipp next week and possibly more experiments like Cadogan in the middle. “It’s a case he has been working in Armagh,” Cuthbert said, “so he has missed out on training and we wanted to give him as much ball as we could. “He enjoyed the fact he wasn’t marking someone for a change! Eoin’s a very good player, he’s been in the full-back line a long time for Cork, we’re looking at different options for players and he’d be one of them.” Scorers for Cork: J Hayes 1-5, C O’Driscoll 2-0, D O’Connor 1-3 (two frees), E Cadogan 1-1, C O’Neill 0-4 C O’Neill (one free, one 45), B Hurley 0-3 (two frees), J O’Sullivan, F Ó Deasúnaigh 1-0 each, D Hazel, M Cussen, K O’Driscoll, G Durrant 0-1 each. Scorers for MI: C Rabbitt 0-3 (one free), P O’Connor 0-1 (free). CORK: K O’Halloran; L Jennings, S O’Donoghue, N Galvin; J O’Sullivan, P Hodnett, D Hazel; F Goold, M Cussen; K O’Driscoll, J O’Rourke, G Durrant; F Ó Deasúnaigh, J Hayes, B Hurley. Subs: E Cadogan for Goold, C O’Neill for Hurley, D O’Connor for O’Rourke, J Loughrey for Galvin (all half-time), C O’Driscoll for Hayes (51), R Price for O’Halloran (54). MARY IMMACULATE COLLEGE: A O’Connell (Cork); P Bane (Galway), J Farragher (Galway), T O’Brien (Cork); D Burke (Tipperary), C Brennan (Clare), K Cremin (Cork); D O’Driscoll (Cork), J Leonard (Galway); D Foran (Kerry), D O’Connell (Tipperary), A O’Neill (Cork); D Russell (Galway), P O’Connor (Kerry), C Rabbitt (Galway). Subs: A Power (Cork) for O’Driscoll (22, black card), L Kelleher (Cork) for Foran (half-time), A Walsh (Cork) for Bane (55), Foran for O’Connor (63, injured), P O’Heney (Tipperary) for Farragher (34), Referee: S Mulvihill (Kerry).

Nothing against the lad, he tries his best but he is simply not up to inter-county standard. He wasn't good enough six years ago so Cuthbert can't seriously think that he has improved since then. It's something that has not gone down well at all in Cork football circles.

Darragh O Se will wear the bainisteoir’s bib when Kerry make their seasonal bow against IT Tralee in the McGrath Cup next Sunday.
The U21 manager and former midfield general will fill in for Eamonn Fitzmaurice who, along with most of the senior players and management, is currently enjoying the team holiday in South Africa. The holiday is a reward for winning the All-Ireland title last September.
A number of the U21 team which drew with Roscommon in the Hastings Cup on Saturday could feature against the Tralee students.

I think part of the issue is that since Cuthbert has become manager it looks like at least 3 serious candidates (and possibly more) all far better options than Cussen for midfield, have opted out of involvement with Cork. Even though the match against Mary I was a non-event, Cuthbert pretty much wasted it as an opportunity to developing realistic midfield options given that he played Cadogan in midfield for the 2nd half.
