question for leesider; whats the capacity of pairc ui rinn. surely it would be capable of holding the crowd for a munster semi.besides giving up home advantage? [ seriously] According to this it's 16,470 which would be more than enough for a game against Limerick or Clare in football but I thought there was some rule that championship games have to be played at a grounds approved to championship standards or something?I think it's similar to the rule that all All-Ireland quarter-finals and semi-finals have to be played in Croker (even though last year the Mayo v Kerry replay was not played there). It's more to do with safety standards than capacity I believe.

if health and safety thinks its okay for to have 16000 at a league match surely its okay for championship?. what crowd would be expected at semi 12-14000. surely f murphy will come up with a solution.

Pfft, this shower wouldn't get half that to watch them the way they are going at the moment If health and safety isn't an issue then Pairc Ui Rinn may well get the go ahead for this game. It's a long way off in any case but Cuthbert and co. won't want to give up home advantage.

Well done to Waterford on winning the final this evening against UCC in Dungarvan. Final score 3-12 to 1-9.
First time they've won the McGrath Cup since they claimed the inaugural edition of the competition in 1981.

Apparently they have a backroom team of 5! They get zero funding, it all goes to the hurlers. Fair play to them, it's like an all ireland for those players.

It may only be the McGrath Cup but its just reward for the the work the Waterford players and management put in. Hopefully it'll be the start for a good year for them

Waterford are now the only Munster team to be in Div 4 of the NFL. Would be great if they can get promotion this year, think it's a realistic goal.

How come UCC had a relatively weakened team? Where was Geaney?

How come UCC had a relatively weakened team? Where was Geaney? UCC have their first game in the Sigerson on Tuesday. Only 1 of the 15 that started for UCC against ITT the previous Sunday started yesterday - Hickey and he was first sub, taken off at half-time. Wasn't a case of a relatively weakened team, it was pretty much a complete B team with 1 or 2 exceptions. Wasn't just Geaney "rested" for UCC - Cox, Culhane, McGguire, Podge Connor, Gary O'Sullivan from Kerry were all "rested" with Maguire, Dorman, T Clancy and Kiely from Cork rested as well. The ultimate proof of this will be the 15 that start for UCC against CIT on Tuesday. Odds are it will be far far closer to the 15 that started versus ITT compared to the 15 who started versus Waterford.

UCC are also hosting the Sigerson weekend of the semi finals and final this year, so not taking any chances that they won't be still in it.
Waterford beat what was put in front of them though, and deserve the cup for beating Cork in the semi finals anyway!
