Ah well weren't ye all educating me over the long winter about the good points of all yer fine footballers. (Those of you who were on the unofficial forum) You also at some stage had a topic about him being a good replacement for when Diarmuid retires. He also plays for that fine college I attend as well, in my spare time. Also, isn't it always good to know your enemy?? See all this useless information I'm storing up over time might come in use some day.

It's all very surprising as well how some people had to look up the Kerry website to get the answers to the competition. Anyone who can't name off every winning Kerry All-Ireland team since 1903 is only a sunshine supporter!

While a lot of attention has been focused on the midfield battle and rightly so I wouldnt be as pessimistic about our chances of breaking even here as other people.
Everyone is on about the cork team trying to crowd midfield but i dont think they will start out with this tactic anyway. In fairness they have two good fielders and ball players in the middle of the park and dont see why they should start out trying to break the ball down. While i expect darragh to pick up nicholas murphy i can see the midfield being down to the lesser lights as it were.
I can see cork keeping the ball away from darragh from the kickouts and kerry keeping the ball away from murphy on their kickouts. Simple logic dictates that the ball will either go to the other pair of centre fielders or to half backs or half forwards.
It will be up to daragh to impose himself on the game through his passing and general positioning and link play than any spectacualr catching i feel the next day. He needs to be fully fit and mobile.
If midfield is crowded we have half backs and forward capable of picking up the breaks. I think we have great options on the bench in Toomy and Mike Quirke if needed. While a lot of people may not i agree with me i think quirke could be suited to sundays game with the tight physicsl excahnges in the centre of the park. We know what tommy gives us and can always brinig out star.
I wonder what will be the kerry managements first reaction if we're loosing midifeld badly sunday? Bring out donaghy make a sub and throw on griffin or quirke?

Watching Road to Croker now. Seamus McEnaney wrote us off completely, said he had "no doubt" ye'd win by between three and six points. Dunno what we ever did to him, maybe he's just trying to make his own team look good.

was down in kerry recently with the wife and kids. Got a big poster of Star for the son.. anyway long story...ended up meeting him in Killarney in the bank. Son got the poster signed, Kieran made a big fuss of him. He was one of his favourite players anyway but has now been elevated to god status in sons eyes.
was very impresssed with Kieran as an individual. A lovely lad who seems to appreciate how much of an effect he can have on kids. Keep up the good work.
Please Jesus, if you really are a kerryman, let us beat Cork

The Times reported yesterday that Noel O Leary could be given the job of man marking Declan O Sullivan. (Could have been mentioned before in the thread, didnt have time to go through it all). What's the feeling on that?

Cant see it happening. Noel has always picked up Galvin and done reasonably well on him. Being realistic, I dont think Miskella would be suited to attacking Galvin. Miskella is more of a "footballer" than Noel

Agree Walter.
In Cork they are happy for Noel and Paul to play their own private game. Cork will feel that if Galvin does not have a big impact on the game their chances will improve massively.

Walter, I normally agree with you, but O' Leary is a fine footballer in his own right. After the inital run in with Geraghty he played very well for the whole game. Now if the Kerry lads could just leave him alone.

so masters is in for goulding. a bit harsh on goulding i would have thought. he played well against meath. Who will mark who. I would like to see tom sullivan and Marc Se take up masters and o'connor. If we nullify those two thats the ball game, and they are our two best man markers. I think Reidy would be ok on Cussen when hes in around the house.
Is that a crazy plan?

It is hard to know with the selection of Masters over Goulding but I would think it is because Masters has more experience. Also I would think Goulding will do will if introduced. Miskella for Lynch seems a straight swap so I would think on past performances McCarthy was the best option for 10. It could be argued that he'd be better coming off the bench, but it's a case of a balancing act. I'm not surprised with the team, and I hope we will see Goulding coming on.
