Weekend of Aug 5th apparently. dunno where. I fear a bad beating here lads. Just have a bad feeling that Tyrone will hammer us into the ground with sheer strength, and send us home weeping. hope I'm wrong. I agree with Kerry North. Look at Omagh CBS...agianst Tralee CBS... they could be the Tyrone senior team to look at the style of play......... tracking back, dispossessing the man in possession, hunting in packs. The tyrone method is thought from the cradle......

Kerry minors turn to soccer ace Guthrie 02 August 2007
Kerry minor football manager John Kennedy introduces under 21 soccer goalkeeper Wayne Guthrie to his team for Saturday’s All-Ireland quarter-final against Tyrone at Tullamore.
Guthrie, who plays his club football for Austin Stacks and soccer for Kerry in the eircom under 21 league, is a surprise inclusion at midfield in a side that shows wholesale changes from the Munster final.
Colm O’Shea has been drafted in at centre forward, while Timothy O’Sullivan returns at right corner forward. There are also a number of positional changes, while Kevin Flynn, Patrick Curtin and Jamie Doolan are the players to lose out in the reshuffle.
Explaining Guthrie’s shock call-up, Kerry boss Kennedy said: “After the Munster final, we opened up the panel and we brought eight or nine players into training. Wayne is starting at midfield and has been showing up well in training.”
Kerry (MF v Tyrone): T Mac an tSaoir; D O’Sullivan, B Shanahan, B Russell; I Somers, B O’Leary, P Costello; J Buckley, W Guthrie; M O Se, C O’Shea, JP Spillane; T O’Sullivan, BJ Walsh, E Kennedy.

I suppose its sh%t or bust for Kennedy. He appears upbeat in the interview in the Kerryman this week (although what other way would be want to appear).
As we've always said with minors, it all depends on the day - people wouldnt be surprised if we won by 6 points, drew or lost by 6 points. It just depends on how the boys (and remember we're talking about 17/18 year old lads here) perform on the day.
Heres hoping we get over Tyrone (expecially with Galway or Carlow being on this side of the draw for the semi final). I look forward to some reviews of the game from people on this forum, I'll be at the Galway Races for the weekend (booked long before I realised the minors could be playing this weekend) so will be relying on texts on Sunday.

Hard to see how one of the best minor corner forwards in the county is good enough to play last year and all this year and now can't make the panel..... Some strange things happening with this minor team this year....

When Kerry add passion and fearlessness to their natural talent who can beat them?
A truely great result! Well done to everyone involved. I love that comment on kerry radio; "We invented football after all".

Thrilled for John Kennedy and the lads. Not surprised by this result - the Munster minor final wasn't consistant with how John had been preparing the team over the past two years and as with 2002, Tyrone were talked up as the next best thing since the sliced pan and well, we beat them then too.

It caps off a disappointing weekend. I don't know how the game went, but i saw the Tyrone versus Derry minor final and to be honest i wasn't particularly impressed with our team considering we had won the Vocationals and Hogan Cup, maybe it's due to the management, maybe the hunger isn't there (maybe Kerry just have a better team, i don't understand some of the pessimism on this site, sure you's had a top minor team last year as well which probably has carried over), but it's still disappointng.
A rotten week for Ulster football, from the Darren Graham affair (i think that's his name), to the seniors getting beat (and it was depressing from my view to see Stevie O'Neill come on and not quite being able to do anything etc), even the manner in which Antrim got beat by Wicklow. I can only hope that either Derry or Monaghan will pull off an upset to restore some pride to the province, or it will be two years in a row with no Ulster semi-finalists.

Tyrone football and Galway hurling are suffering from an over "competitive" club scene......... in other words............. too many county men are being clocked. Joe Canning has the potential to be the best hurler of his generation but some backwoodsman from loughrea decided to stamp on his head when he was lying on the ground............. Now look at Brian McGuigan. Its sickening.

People on here are definitely being too negative. I can see this minor team improving but , perhaps mopre importantly, theres a few guys there who'll play senior for Kerry yet. The snide comments about ' a certain persons son' really annoy me. Eoin Kennedy is an outstanding footballer with a great future. With a little more luck, he could have led them to victory on sunday. I really enjoy watching him and think he'll be a future senior corner forward. Barry Shanahan at full-back is another outstanding prospect and had a good game. JB Spillane is another who contributed hugely on sunday and I expect we'll see more of him in the qtr-final...probably at midfield with the Crokes lad whose name escapes me at present (Fogarthy?) moving to wing forward. Don't write this team off yet. good call joxer

Congrats to the Kerry minor players and management team. You did yourselves and your county proud. Special praise to the management team for the balls to scrap the team after the Munster final defeat and start from scratch again.
Kerry 2-9 Tyrone 1-8
ESB All-Ireland MFC quarter-final
A VASTLY improved second half display earned Kerry their place in the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship when they edged out Tyrone in a compelling quarter-final at O'Connor Park, Tullamore yesterday.
Trailing by 1-6 to 2-2 at half time and lucky to be that close, Kerry played with much greater cohesion and purpose in the second half.
Limiting the Ulster champions to a miserly two points, Kerry, beaten by Cork in the Munster final and on the receiving end of much critical analysis in the county, are well worth their place in the semi-finals.
With Timothy O'Sullivan and Barry John Walsh leading the line impressively in attack and Johnny Buckley and Wayne Guthrie dominating midfield, Kerry dominated play for long periods in the second half.
In a strangely lifeless first half, it was Tyrone who impressed as the better team. Kerry made a dream start with a JB Spillane goal after just 50 seconds, but Tyrone had the better of the remainder of the half.
Two super long range frees from Kyle Coney helped them to a 0-6 to 1-1 lead after 18 minutes and Kerry were beginning to panic. However, a Barry John Walsh free and an opportunist Colm O'Shea goal after a great inter-change with Timothy O'Sullivan steadied the ship and put Kerry 2-2 to 0-6 ahead after 24 minutes.
Back came Tyrone and a magnificent Paul McAleer goal in the 28th minute gave them a 1-6 to 2-2 interval lead which was the least they deserved.
Kerry played with much greater energy in the second and by the fourth minute they were 2-5 to 1-7 to the good.
By the time Tyrone's next point came courtesy of Coney in the 21st minute, Kerry had 2-8 on the board and were destined for the last four.
Tyrone did mount a late rally that saw Paul McAleer denied by 'keeper Tomás Mac an tSaoir and the losers' misery was compounded when Ronan McNabb was sent off in injury-time.
SCORERS - Kerry: BJ Walsh 0-4 (3f and 1 45), T O'Sullivan 0-3, JB Spillane and C O'Shea 1-0 each, J Buckley and E Kennedy 0-1 each. Tyrone: P McAleer 1-2 (1 f), K Coney 0-3 (2 f), P McNeice 0-2 (1f), P Hughes 0-1.
KERRY - T Mac an tSaoir; D O'Sullivan, B Shanahan, B Russell; I Somers, B O'Leary, P Costelloe; J Buckley, W Guthrie; M O Se, C O'Shea, JB Spillane; T O'Sullivan, BJ Walsh, E Kennedy. Subs: J Doolan for O Se (38m), C Tobin for O'Shea (49m).
TYRONE - M O'Neill; P Martin, A Girvan, R Pickering; C McRory, R McNabb, K Mossey; M McKenna, K Coney; S Curran, P McNeice, P Hughes; P McAleer, C Harkin, D McNulty. Subs: C O'Neill for D McNulty (36m), M Rodgers for S Curran (40m), S Dillon for K Mossey (44m), T O'Hagan for P Hughes (52m), P Harte for K Coney (57m).
REF - E Kinsella (Laois).

This is a truly great result for Kerry football. Jack O'Connor may be right when he talks about breaking the myths that surround northern football. They are not better than us and we are more than capable of turning them over at any level. Sincere congrats to John Kennedy and team. This will surely have secured him the u21 job if he wants it and from there who knows...
