I presume the club will nominate a captain from the county champions and the county management will nominate a vice-captain at the start of the year from one of their senior or leadership players. This doesn't have to be complicated at all.
It is great still that a club/district can win the championship and someone playing from a smaller club in a December district final can earn the Kerry captaincy.
There are several layers to this. Back in early '00s we have Dromid/Declan v St.Marys/Bryan playing in a December South Kerry Final for the honour to captain Kerry the following year after South Kerry had one the county final. You cant create more bite than that. I'm glad this hasn't been lost last night.
The county manager picking a vice captain is the safety net here. Common sense has prevailed.

The motion to change the selection of the Kerry captain received a very narrow 50-48 majority tonight but failed to receive the two thirds majority it required to pass. However. The Chairman stated afterwards that in the event of the nominated captain (currently David Clifford) not being selected, then it would be management/executive who select his replacement. This outcome is probably the best of both worlds. Clubs need to show a bit of responsibility & maturity when nominating the captain from within a club.

Cracking game last night between two footballing counties that served up an attacking spectacle. Some great forwards and forward play on display, a phenomenal goal from the skilfully gifted Shay Walsh. Shane Ryan was only millimetres away from saving it. The Kerry inside line pinging away all night in the first half. It reminded one why we went to games as young people during the Golden Years. Enthralled by great forward play from players playing off the cuff. If only we could legislate out the blanket and 14-15 players behind the ball.....................
Stacks Park looking at its very best last night. A few extra thousand people packing in to see Kerry's young players in action no doubt. First time it hit my what a great football venue it is. It would be great if the remaining uncovered terraces could be covered, thus creating a mini "Soulfull Bowl"..........
Kerry seemed to tire in the second half, it looked like they were goosed going into injury time. If Dublin have pegged that one back we would be lauding them. Dublin reel in calm cool and collected, Kerry were frantic in search of the late scores. This clutch of young Kerry players will become clutch players in due course. Thanks to the players for a heart warming night in Stacks Park and a mindful journey back to younger days following the Green & Gold.

Surprised they're not blooding Graham O'Sullivan. Good to see Gavin White back at 7 and Liam Kearney starting.

I don't know. Dublin's goal came from such a ball into Tommy that Philly managed to put him off enough for it to bounce past him and out over the line. I would say that Philly fouled Tommy and we should have had a free. After watching the final minutes of the club final and then the final minutes on Saturday I am convinced the only way to eliminate the cynical play at the end of games or at anytime is to enforce a 21 yard free for any black card offence on the field of play. Question how did Kilkenny not get a black card for the pull down on Burns? How has a player of the caliber of Fenton avoided the notice of the AFL? I don't see why Brian Fenton would give up his Dublin platform to play that AFL muck......................

I doubt JMcC would have kicked that ball away under Gavin. Lots of mouthing back from Dublin towards the ref last night. Long may it continue. Both teams well off the pace at the moment. Meaningless game/outcome in the greater scheme of things. Though the ref was very poor. The new mark will ruin the game slowly. Mark = very cheap score.

Very good piece from Tomas in today's Indo. Almost didn't bother to read it. Worth the few minutes read. Some good insights.

Stop watch & hooter system would be more transparent. Better football team won here. Makes perfect sense not to be dragging these finals out for another 2 months. The semi finals were better this year with the shorter break. The better players can now look towards their county teams & NFH/L.

They need to look at refs and time keeping. Lane contrived to pull this one out to 70 mins! Time was up when the Kilcoo keeper kicked the ball out over the sideline!

Mickey Harte's thoughts on the Cathal McShane situation - Plenty of people will share Harte's sentiments on this and on the roles of some former Irish AFL players........

The top counties will have to match AFL rookie salaries through endorsements & other initiatives to retain their best blue chip players. The horse bolted with MOC, it is entirely in Kerry's own hands with other blue chip players coming through. It probably requires engaging professional expertise to make the endorsement/sponsorship model work. If Kerry aren't cutting edge in dealing with DC & SOS it is just being careless. Young blue chip players can thrive in the modern game and in continued college life with proper worthwhile endorsement/sponsorship structures in place. Time to move things on in Kerry to the next level and build on the Kerry brand.

Massive blow to Tyrone if true. The equivalent of young David departing from Kerry. The added worry is that Cathel is older than the usual recruit. Upper age limit being extended , therefore increased chances of more players going. Of course we are setting it up nicely for the Aussies. This farcical attacking mark is manna from heaven for them, as our game becomes more and more like Aussie Rules. Next move oval ball, why not. Ah sure, there will the occasional trip down under for administrators who seem to care less and less for the health of our game. That is devastating for Tyrone if true, soul destroying for the remaining players. Kerry wouldn't be worth following if "young David" & SOS packed their bags. This kind of thing will become more prevalent during this new decade. Bigger issue for Croker if Dublin continue to pull ahead and the chasing pack continues to be weakened by AFL poaching. Croker needs to step up to the plate and look at new ways of keeping these young blue chip players at home in the times we live in. Time now to look at something inventive here.

What is the situation now re the captaincy nomination. How is it done. I presume it is between DC & JS. Do legion nominate one of them now to lead Kerry in 2020?

Interesting that both groups find common ground. The GAA can hardly ignore this They'll have to agree on four regional provincial areas of eight teams in each.

The Dublin players & JG carried themselves very well on the Sports Awards show last night. They always come across very well, a credit to their county. Looking forward to seeing if Kerry can overtake them next summer.

Lads I'm looking at next year's fixtures and planning on attending the Mayo game as I've not been to a game in Castlebar. Where do Kerry fans normally stay? Castlebar or Westport? Castlebar is the spot - Breaffy House or the Ellison ( formerly Harlequin) are the most popular spots, Mick Byrne’s for the pints! Weekend in Castlebar long booked. Should be a good weekend!

Pardon the pun, the biggest steam train coming down the tracks is the lack of apparent farming heirs following the current generation of farmers in their mid 50s to late 70s................. The farming model has sustained the region until now.

More alarming that it is actually two clubs amalgamated! Valentia also beating the Sneem/Derrynane amalgamation. It doesn't bode well. CS also in the the third tier schools championship, no county minors coming through from South Kerry in recent years also. B/Fs spiral commenced with the lose of the three O'Connor forwards, two to Newbridge and the other retired. JOC made an observation in an article at the weekend, Newbridge town have 4000 primary schools kids, there are just over 400 in all of South Kerry. Hopefully everyone might go into a room for a few days and sort out the Greenway. It would be a start at least.......................

Kerry will win the all Ireland in 2020. I thought that also until Gavin pulled the plug. A new manager might actually squeeze a little bit of new freshness out of Dublin in 2020. Cluxton's call will be pivotal. He is at the gate now and could go either way. Achieving the 5 in a row is probably likely to whack Dublin mentally. Gavin might have sensed this. All to play for in 2020 all the same for Kerry. Probably short a bit with MOC in Oz and a few gaps in defence.

Why would you restrict it to people outside the county if they are paying to see it online? To alleviate the impact on attendance - could not see a charge of €20 ( county final admission) being attractive to potential viewers, €10 more appropriate - obviously could not offer same deal to those living locally. More might login to live streaming that might actually attend the game. All young kids around the county & the country should see the DCs & SOSs play as much as possible.................Attending winter football doesn't always suit younger & older people.

The KCB have a huge opportunity to stream games or delayed viewing around the world to people. It should be part of KCB revenue income and enhancement of the Kerry brand. How many times can you relaunch the Kerry jersey before people get agitated?
