Just thought id get this started, two weeks out from our first game. Like every year hard to predict this as we dont know who will be available and fitness levels etc.
Probably a good time to get Dublin as you would imagine they wont be a sharp. What are peoples thoughts on a starting tesm id like to see Paudie Clifford and a few of the crokes lads start.

Na Gaeil playing at 3.15pm, should draw an extra few supporters.

It might be only January but beating Dublin in Croke Park is important. Not the 2 points on offer but the confidence it brings. The league looks tough this year, 4 tricky away games, Dubs,Tyrone,Mayo and Monaghan. I think Stephen OBrien alluded to not taking the league as serious as last year. I hope this is not the case as it's a real springboard for the summer.

Id be happy if we stay up tbh. Think it would be good for this group to beat dublin in croke park though then realistically we only need two more wins we would probably be safe.

What kind of team are we looking like having? Looks like we'll be without the below players to begin with:
Jack Barry (Club Tied) Diarmuid O'Connor (Club Tied) Gavin White (Crokes Holiday?) Tony Brosnan (Crokes Holiday?) David Shaw (Crokes Holiday?) Micheal Burns (Crokes Holiday?) Paudie Clifford (Injured) David Moran (?)
Any more to add to the absentee list?
That would leave us with something like this possibly:
Shane Ryan
Jason Foley Tadgh Morley Tom O'Sullivan
Gavin Crowley Paul Murphy Brian O'Beaglaoich
Liam Kearney Jack Sherwood
Stephen O Brien Sean O Shea Dara Moynihan
Paul Geaney David Clifford Killian Spillane
Subs: Brian Kelly, Tommy Walsh, James O Donoghue, Shane Enright, Peter Crowley, Adrian Spillane, Jonathan Lyne, Graham O Sullivan, Pa Kilkenny, Cormac Coffey, Conor Geaney.

Not too sure about the Crokes players going on holiday but I would imagine that PK will want all players available given that Kerry have already provided these guys with a two week break. The Sigerson will maybe dictate the availability of the likes of the UCC contingent - the semis are scheduled for Weds 22nd which would raise doubts about the chances of Sean O’Shea & Killian Spillane’s participation - other than those I am not sure but Dara Moynihan wasn’t with ITT last weekend so maybe is not available.

Be fairly mad of the crokes lads to miss the start of the league for a club team holiday. First time in ages they would have a full run at the league with crokes out earlier this year.
Especially as none of the four are 100% guarenteed a place in the 26 not to mind first 15. Be shocked if they all dont make themselves available (injury permitting).

I would like to see Gavin O’Brien, Rob Wharton, and Thomás O’Sé being included in the mix - assuming that they are still involved.

Donegal even do short some talented players were very impressive last year and improved hugely. I would fancy them to be serious contenders for the 2020 final. Would Peter Crowley and Dara Moyihan be ready to take part in the first rounds of the league? If so they are been fast tracked, so much for player welfare!

Lot of injurys and lads unavailable Diarmuid and Jack na gaeil, David Moran coming back in late March, couldn't see Gavin Crowley and Dara Moynihan fit. Killian spillane Sean o se Conor Geaney probably sigerson tied

Really looking forward to the start of the league. It’s time to get over the winter blues (no pun intended). I’d like to see Kerry take a good stab at the league, with a young upcoming team and make a strong statement for the year ahead,

I believe that Gavin Crowley, Jack Sherwood & Dara Moynihan will miss the first 3 games in the league due to injury - Tom O’Sullivan doubtful too but should be available before the aforementioned. Peter Crowley & David Moran not expected back until final rounds of the league mid March.

Himself, Danny Sheehan and Denis Daly were just let go apparently I'm not surprised Sheehan and Daly are were let go, they were really on the fringes of the panel. But I'm surprised that O'Sé has been let go if it is true. It's only a few months since he was chosen to come on in a super 8 game against Donegal so he really has gone way down in the estimation of management in a short period of time. It hardly has to do with the red card that would be very harsh. I would not have dropped him, I think he has something to offer.

Anyone want to give a lash at starting team or possible panel for the game next week? Will be able to call on the UCC players as well which is nearly a blessing in disguise for Kerry.

I'd also hope that management are factoring in the risk of burn-out. Even beyond the risk of physical burn-out, there's the risk of mental burn-out. If you have players playing football 11/12 months of the year, it's only a matter of time before they run out of steam. Looking down that list of players a good amount of of them have played a serious amount of football since the intercounty season finished up betweeen county championship, divisional championship and third level (Sigerson and 3rd level leagues). The article on Luke Keaney in the Independent last week gives a sobering reminder of what can go wrong when young lads are flogged like horses. Lads at that age need to be protected from themselves and the ones that need to be responsible are management. www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/i-was-struggling-to-walk-struggling-to-put-on-my-socks-and-get-out-of-bed-i-was-just-turning-25-38871923.html

All in all we should have a decent team out. I remember us turning up in Croke Park a few years ago for a game and we had a very green Brian O'Beaglaoich and some other novices like Gavan O'Grady playing and we were lucky to stay in the game for as long as we did.
This game gives us an opportunity to run out new options in the full back line, centre back and midfield. Think we could do with another corner back and would be hopeful of Graham O'Sullivan making a move this year. Could trial people at centre back and see if there are any alternatives to Gavin Crowley that could work. Midfield will be weak the next day but a good run out for Liam Kearney, John Mark Foley or Barry O'Mahoney would be good to see where we are depth wise.
Forward line is strong already but would like to see Killian Spillane start to push on with his own development to aid the other inside forwards as he could be a fine player to flit between front line finisher and link man between the half forward line and full forward line.
Can't wait for the weekend!

Surely Tommy Walsh at the edge of the square would be a very potent weapon given the forward mark?
Looking forward to seeing how the panel manages over the first three or four games. Always interesting to see who takes advantage of being handed the jersey that was previously in safe hands. Would be great to see our panel develop over the league and have plenty of competition for places. Staying up and adding a few strings to our bow panel wise would be excellent progress, in my opinion. We will have serious talent and options up front, come championship time. Would be nice to see some additions around midfield, half back line.
Looking forward to the league, it’s a brilliant competition and a great format. All distilled into a couple of months. Roll on Saturday night and the bright lights and the Dubs!
