Suppose we should have a thread for the Leagues in general.
Great win for the Farney men last night in Croker. Took their goals really well, every year their the expected relegation candidates and every year they seem to love defying the experts.
Just watching the Westerns here, Galway look woeful they might be for the drop based on today.
Damaging results in D2 for Kildare and Meath's hopes for any sort of promotion push.

I suppose Mayo will be favourites for Sam again now. The world keeps spinning yet some things remain as constant as the rising sun - the grave, the P65 and Mayo winning All-Irelands in January

Quick question in the Tyrone game Nial Morgan seemed to claim a mark on a high ball in around the square. Didn't know the goalie could claim one like that, when did it come in?

With the advanced mark the same rules applies for the defending team as it does the attacking... if the ball is kicked from outside the 45 and ball travels at least 13 metres, if the ball is caught cleanly, the attacker or defender is entitled to call a mark.

I totally agree, most that know me find it strange that I actually prefer the league more than the championship, admittedly, I know I would be in the minority, League ball gives me hope, you watch the previous year’s county championship, you’re watching club and divisional players display their wares in competitive ball, your watching players in positions that were problematic from the previous year and debating could they make the difference.
Week in week out you’ve a run of games in venues that you would rarely or never attend a championship game in. In between the run of games, you have a constant barrage of podcasts, articles and interviews, the forums are full of opinions, debates and the team are never 100% certain body wise, whereas championship, invariably, 14 of the 15 are nailed.
Supporter wise, you’ll meet the genuine Dub fan in January in Tralee, or like last Saturday, a few Derry souls making the long trip down, as opposed to the lad who sits in Croker on final day, with a ticket in the paw from some acquaintance, who roars on.. come on number 5……
Personally, love the league and the green shoots, and rather it to Munster or round robin stages, only from quarter final on in Championships betters it.

Fergal Kelly was surely Mayo's motm tonight. Some shocking decisions at the end. The last free, A 45, Having said that how did OShea ( who was awful ) not get a free with Fenton on his back.

I thought it was an exciting game and as for Kelly being Mayo's mom he was bad for both teams. Gave Dublin everything first 20mins and then corrected it. Not a bad game. Disappoints me to see such negative comments on anyone but us.

Christ, how bad must Galway have been .. Dublin Mayo is shocking fair Not sure what game you were watching but imo it was a great game. Brilliant scores by Dublin in the first half, Mayo somehow against the run of play came back into it and then managed to stay in touch. Very exciting finish with dreadful ref decisions costing Dublin the points. Somehow Mayo won but bigger picture is Dublin are in rude health with dozens of medals yet to come back in

Dublin had 9 different scorers with only 8 of last year's team lining out. Both midfielders scored. This is the bigger picture. Joe brollys piece in the Indo is rubbish. He manages to have a swipe at practically every one and especially Micky Harte. Fellas like Brolly love knocking the game.

For the second week in a row, Dublin hit with late concession, but, I envisage what will irk most is the final whistle blown when in possession and on the attack...

Ya this is strange as referee blew last week seanie kicked the last ball. What if it went over?? Needless playing all the time and blowing then imo. Anyway as always we've seen some great games in the league so far. It's a pity this format isn't the Championship. The provincial in Munster Connaught and Leinster are pointless

Some teams are having a terrible start to the year.
Cork - beaten by Louth, they'll have Cavan at home and even though Cavan lost they ate playing well. Given you need to make the Munster Final to automatically qualify for Sam next year Cork are in real bother. Take no pleasure in that.
Kildare - Basket case.
Meath - O'Rourke has a very tough job on his hands to turn things around.
Dublin - not sure how they lost last night or having seen Monaghan today how they lost to them. Between them, Rossies and Galway to go down.

Yeah Cork have had an awful start and are facing into a relegation battle now. If they contrive to find themselves in D3 you'd have to wonder will they ever get back to what they were pre2014.
Galway look poor too and likely for the drop hopefully the Dubs go with them!

Yesterday they were missing Sean Kelly, Silke, Glynn, McDaid, Walsh and Comer from the 2022 final team. That's 4 all stars from 22 and the young player of the year. Cooke is also unavailable this year. Galway will be much stronger later in the league.

I think Galway will have a fair impact in the championship this year provided they get the rub of the green with injuries. They still need to pick up an additional forward.

In my humble opinion relegation will be between Monaghan Roscommon and Galway and maybe even Tyrone.Dubs altho bottom of the table will not be relegated.I think Derry will win the league.

Am I right in saying, Mayo, Derry and Monaghan are playing championship the week after the league final.... I would envisage there may be a bit of tapering off and scheduling the peak fitness prior to c'ship..
I can't see Derry sustaining this level of fitness for the full duration....

Mayo, Galway and Monaghan are the 3 division 1 teams who play championship the week after the league final. Derry play 2 weeks after the league final.

After last week's performance against us, Dublin go up to Derry and put them to the sword!
Jeuss lads its only first weekend in March but a very ominous feeling for a team with players back in top form and more big hitters to come back in.
They have unearthed a few new players and other fellas who were usually supporting cast are stepping up to the next level

A lot of games that were fixed on St.Patricks Day seem to have been moved to the Saturday. Anybody hearing this will be the same for the Kerry Roscommon game? Haven't heard anything myself yet but would be mad to have the game at 1.45 on St.Patricks Day in the middle of all the parades.

I was wondering this myself, Why was any game fixed for St Patrick's day it's ridiculous.
