Have to say I do like seanie in at 14 very accurate and always showing for the ball our ending full forward line though however were poor burns not too bad but Roche and killian were well off it Joe o Connor will be a big improvement around midfield and we have loads of back options

Dara though I agree I think he struggled.

Well if Tipp were disappointing then Limerick were abject. However regardless of the opposition you can still take certain things from the game. Fitness looks excellent. Sharpness looks good. Seanie at 14 looks excellent and lean. Joe O Connor looks the real deal will be interesting to see him beside Diarmuid. Given we have 6 starters to come back we look like we have real depth now. Dylan geaney,Sean o Brien , Keith Evans and Paud o Leary have all impressed all looked comfortable at this level a big plus to add depth on bench

Those lads do not look out of place. Keith Evans still looks a little light though.

Dilemma with Seanie is his work rate is vital all over the pitch, passing, breaks, tackling etc.
Be great to have him inside but his game is just more than scoring.

One of the great away days in the GAA, Rathkeale for a McGrath Cup game It's been a while since I've been through Rathkeale - a spot that would have made the town of Bodie look like Ballsbridge. Truly the 21st Century Irish version of the Wild West and not a sheriff to be seen! However I can see where JP's money is going as Neville Park was an impressive set-up with a nice new stand that offered a comfortable is chilly view of todays proceedings. But I perched myself up the back within earshot of Sean Ban commentating on Clubber and in front of Paddy Tally who I was slyly listening to with interest as he gave his own commentary on the game to the Kerry analysts sat next to him. Not a huge amount you can take from a game like this, Limerick might be operating a division above Tipp but based on today's showing I'd say St Senans would give them a game and the likes of East Kerry would lick their lips. Limerick remained competitive for the first ten minutes as the Kingdom boys were finding their feet. Once they did Seanie blasted two to the back of the net within 90 seconds and then it was game over. O'Shea very much picked up where he left off on Wednesday night, lean, mean, hungry. Around him the two Geaney's made the most of the continuous chances with Conor helping himself to 2-2 and Dlyan to 0-4. Before the 20 minute mark it was already an utter rout. Whatever Limerick's slim chances of being competitive were before the game - all that was completely undermined by their goalkeeper's performance in that first half. He was now having a nightmare, one exacerbated ten-fold by the obvious pre-game instructions to roam out the field. Time and again he was caught out and sent scurrying back as Kerry made hay and Geaney made him pay by coolly sending a long shot into an empty net. When he did go long Joe and O'Brien ruled the air, both making fine catches, and O'Brien impressing with some lovely high fielding. But Joe was really the man of the game. Countless tackles and turnovers, popping up in the full back line to exhaust Limerick attacks, helping himself to a white flag and then deputising for Shane Ryan in goal late on as Kerry by then had used up their 11 allowed subs. After a dodgy opening kickout he actually composed himself well to send out two other balls that both found their men. Our back lines did well overall though there was the odd moment when a valley down the centre opened and if Limerick had more confidence they could have gone charging through instead of turning and recycling it - this curse seems to inflict so many inter-county teams as you go down the divisions. Still the Treaty men never really looked like registering a major at least until the dying minutes in a move that saw Ryan leave the field with a sore shoulder. A good many positives to take in terms of the new faces doing well. Yes woeful opposition but you can only deal with the deck on the table and the two young Geaney's O'Brien, Big Joe, Barry Dan Paudie O’Leary and Keith Evans can all be pleased with their afternoon's work. While the latter two are a bit slight at the moment there is potential there for sure with a year or two of inter-county S&C under the belt. Negatives for sure though and interestingly they surround a few of the established players. Dara Moynihan made silly errors and was obviously trying just too hard. Stefan was largely unnoticeable ditto Adrian Spillane. Roche and Burns made numerous mistakes when introduced and butchered a lot of chances with bad passes or wild shots. I felt early in the League last year that Roche might become a serious option but the evidence just isn't there since to back it up. Hopefully they all get plenty of League game time to prove doubters like myself wrong. On to a novel Friday night meeting with Cork and silverware on the line. Very tempted to come down for that one even if the League starts 8 days later. Cork should be a far greater test and the perfect challenge before Division 1 is upon us. Christ its great to be back travelling to Kerry games, a sure sign that Spring is imminent!!

Think there was close to 10,000 at last home final v Cork wasn't there? Think it was around 8,000 but it was definitely a lot busier than half the League matches you'd be at in Killarney. Had to park all the way down at the Fire Station such was the amount of cars that day. First weekend they lifted the last lockdown too which helped!

Sean O'Brien was the pick of last Wednesday in my opinion with Joe O'Connor not far behind him,
How did the duo pay as a partnership today?
It's obvious Jack wants yo hit tyre ground running this year

If you were to keep Seanie inside with David then you need two big and mobile wing forwards assuming Paudie on the forty. It would be great if the likes of Buckley and maybe Ruairi Murphy showed they could fill those roles. You could then have Stephen O’Brien or Dara Moynihan as a roving corner forward.

Joe was brilliant in my opinion, Covered every blade of grass and even went in goals! I'm hearing Diarmuid has a tricky Injury and is out for a while can anyone confirm that ?

How bad is Shane Ryan's injury? Bang to the shoulder. Thr signalled to take him off immediately however he seemed in no discomfort leaving the pitch. The examiner are saying was precautionary.

How bad is Shane Ryan's injury? It looked worrying when he first hit the grass, but after a few minutes he was up and walking off the field. He strolled past us on his way to the dressing room and seemed fine so I'm assuming it was just a case of a stinger and the management taking no chances. On a side note as I was leaving young Coffey was standing just inside the fence from me, my God that lad is huge!!

I suppose today’s match had some value but one needs to dig deeply to a discover a nugget or two.
I can understand fellows getting excited about Sean O’Shea inside but he has shown glimpses of that form before and we will need get more evidence of his likely contribution in there. Similarly , both Geaneys displayed a level of slickness which was pleasing but not surprising against this level of opposition. It will be interesting to see their return as they climb higher up the food chain.
Disappointingly, we got little in the form of a scoring return from our wing forwards. I think we all agree this is an area in which we need to improve significantly. In fairness Roman Buckley improved as the game wore on. Future at wing forward?
Dara Moynihan and Michael Burns were busy as usual but with little profit.
Stefan made no obvious impression at CHB.
Joe O’Coonor was. a dominant force at midfield, where Sean O’Brien fielded well again.
As stated it is difficult to assess the value of this outing . At the least it was a good training session.

Buckley and Cillian Burke for me, Stephen O’Brien an option too. I’d prefer more of a scoring threat in the number 15 jersey either Killian Spillane or Dylan Geaney who is also comfortable playing a roving role. What’s the story with Tony Brosnan is he injured or are they holding him back on some type of training plan? Dan O’Donoghue’s status is a mystery as well at the moment.

It was a very impressive set up at the venue. Can't say the same for the rest of the town. My wife stayed in the car reading a book but I ended up leaving early because she was very nervous of the lads doing doughnuts and wheel spins up and down the street. Wild west is right. I am well used to the spicier parts of the capital but it pales into insignificance compared to El Paso. I feel sorry for the decent residents of that town.

I like joe o Connor I think he can be the difference this year hope he stays injury free big strong fast great going forward and great engine Also like Buckley he looked slow today but it took him time to get used to the inter county pace as he hasn’t played in a while. Although cillian burke didn’t play today he will be a big part of this year yet I hope and also Seán O’Brien looks the part. I know the opposition was poor but I am more optimistic this year already than last year. I think Keith Evans is also close as he is young but he has speed and vision and is tough too and to me he is better than the other two that play at number 10 the last few years. Conor Geaney could be part of set up too as I don’t see killian and Roche making it. I don’t know what Paul. Murphy and Stephen O’Brien is doing playing this early in the year but I guess our management knows what they are doing.

Perhaps the blend of boy racers and the Wild West is what inspired such famous lyrics as ‘f*%# your Honda civic I’ve a horse outside’

Derry came back to beat Down in the McKenna Cup.
Qualifying for the final.
This will be a difficult opener on the 27th.
I'm glad it's in Tralee and that should help us.
They'll be missing the Glen boys aswell.
Looking forward to getting down expecting a very good league opener.

Are Derry playing their strong team in that at the moment or mixing it up?
As a fair comparison, we have ~7 of our starting 15 playing at moment so we going semi strong.
Derrys lack of depth seemed to cost them against us last year but they've alot of young lads coming through

They've done a great job at Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale. I think yesterday was the first time the stand was open for a match, pitch in perfect condition also. Limerick have a new management team this year and yesterday was their first "competitive" match together. What with injuries, fellas gone traveling, etc. they'd 11 debuts yesterday, they were miles off it and have a lot to do to stay in division 3 imo tbh. Rathkeale has it's issues, but around Christmas time they're inundated with "visitors" traveling from the UK!! Don't know how they get so much time off work! Must have good jobs!

A lot could depend on how both fair against a stronger rebel pairing. It’s fairly considered that Joe O’Connor will be the primary man in situ or with a grasp of the number eight jersey, Jack might even go more conservative and I’m actually thinking he will pick Adrain Spillane against Derry. Putting two relative green horns in the mix may be counter productive against an established and powerful northern pair. Sean O’Brien has been impressive but maybe baby steps and giving him twenty minutes or so as a replacement with fresh legs for the Templenoe may be the more constructive option.
