I do think that the standard at u 20 level nationally is not great so that gives Kerry and indeed a number of counties a great chance in the competition Agree. I think Tyrone are the stand out team this year having lost the minor All Ireland final at this age and having won the last 2 Hogan Cups. Derry and maybe Donegal will give them a run for their money in Ulster. The standard in the other 3 provinces isn’t great and it’s hard to pick out any stand out teams.

I am surprised that Luke Crowley not named to start, he had a huge impact when he came on last week.

As a believer in starting your best team I am disappointed that Luke Crowley is not selected.
Charlie Keating going from wing forward to wing back seems a bit drastic but perhaps he is equally adept in that position. I do not know enough about him to comment either way.
I imagine Eddie Healy will slot in well at midfield although because the backs played so well as a unit the last day one would have thought the back line would have been left intact.
Two midfielders at wing forward? Clearly Tomas wants to dominate possession in that area but where are the scores going to come from? If the aim is to dominate possession would that idea not be complemented by starting proven score getters like Luke and Paddy Lane? As always time will be the arbiter.
It would be a reassuring start to the week if the u20s prevail. Good luck to them.

Wouldn't surprise me if lane and Crowley start

I’d be surprised if Luke Crowley isn’t brought in as a late change.

Is the cameraman operating out of a helicopter or what? Seems to be miles away. Very hard to make anyone out with that picture.

What is the point of a match commentator if he does tell us who is in possession of the ball . That is all I want from him. Kerry got a point which he said was the best point of the match. No identification. The Kerry goal- he thinks it maybe Cormac Dillon. Presumably he is being paid for that garbage.

It's hard enough to see the numbers with the yellow background, but I agree need to make better effort

Don't think either team will win the All Ireland playing the way they did tonight. A lot of sloppy handling, kicking and being turned over cheaply. On the plus side Luke Crowley must be a definite starter going forward, his pass for the goal was a peach. Also Cormac Dillon looks like he'll be able to make the step up to the senior panel in a few years.

Clubber coverage was better than what we had there tonight with a commentator who hadn’t a clue of the players or much else really being straight about it.
Anyway, a win but not exactly stellar going there. We played better into the wind. It was a strange one in that both teams were aware of the knockout game in 2 weeks time.
Still, was not greatly enthused by the quality. Hope to god we see a lift for the final.

Kerry played better than I thought they would. Crowley and Dillion have a good understanding. Dillion reminds me of paul o Connor from kenmare when he was underage. Very accurate off both legs and great off the ground. A throw back to old corner forwards. Disappointed with half forward line, Crowley had to go out there to make things happen. Evans a tasty corner back also

Very encouraging performance in my opinion, some players performing better than I thought they were capable of. Crowley and Dillon our 2 difference makers. I’d expect 2-4 changes from today’s starting 15 for the Munster final which will strengthen the team further.

Kerry were 2nd best in that first half and the goal really came at a good time.
Good spirit in that 2nd half to come back after Cork closed the gap too 1 point.
As others have said Crowley and Dillion look like real prospects for thd senior team.
I wasn't really impressed with the overall quality though.

All you’re looking for out of a u20 team is prospects and I think Kerry have a few of them. Crowley certainly is one even if he is a bit kamikaze at times, with either his kicking or decision making. Dillion is a lovely inside forward and kicked 2 great 45’s. I think even though Lane didn’t do much, having him in there kept Cork a bit more honest in terms of playing with 2 inside forwards. Kennedy mixed the good with the bad. Works very hard but not sure how much of a forward he is. Eddie Healy probably the best on show for me

Heartening win for Kerry tonight but unfortunately but not surprisingly my predictions regarding the half forward line all replaced and full forward replaced disappointingly came true ..Tomas prob took a bit more ownership of the team tonight but with just 2 scoring forwards available to him on the current squad and when your defenders and midfielders are outscoring the forwards an iteland is prob a bridge too far .. but as previously stated you can never write Kerry off and after tonight should comfortably reach the all Ireland semi

Not wanting to be overly harsh on lads just finding their way but I would agree. It was very sloppy from both teams and some very basic errors. Great to get the win on the road and they showed some serious bottle twice to pull ahead of cork (but twice let them back). This possession, play percentages ball is just alien to Kerry teams. We are not good at it, our strengths are moving the ball forward at pace. For all the talk of only 2 scoring forwards, there was multiple times we broke past Cork's middle line last night but just turned back, allowed them to set and then ran into trouble. A blight that has infected our senior teams over the last 10 years to varying degrees. Surprising that Tomás is championing that style given his views on the game he shared on his podcast and as a pundit on the Sunday game.

A fairly timid affair as one would expect with the sides very likely to meet again in the final. This round robin is good in principle as it guarantees every side will get a good few games. Up to now , the two best teams , Kerry and Cork , often got just one game if they met in the first round. The downside of the round robin currently is that only two teams are competitive with the result that you can get a largely meaningless game like last night.
Our performance was of the mixed variety , good and poor. Interestingly, we seemed to play our best football in the second half of both halves. It didn’t look healthy , trailing in the first half 0-6 0-3 while playing with the wind. The goal of course was crucial. Started feebly enough in the second half but eventually secured a comfortable supremacy.
If the wind was as strong as the “commentator” suggested then those two 45s pointed by Cormac were of the first rank for such a young man.
When Cork were on top their two central forwards had our two central defenders at full stretch. There is another Cork forward, young Sheedy from Bantry , who only came on as a sub last night , who is very highly rated. He will surely start the next night.
Some of us here pointed out the doubtful wisdom of starting two midfielders at wing forward. Both were taken off as was our CHF. Tomas will have to rethink the formation of this line.
We played Cork in Cork last year and last night . I presume a potential final between these sides will be played in Tralee. Of course Cork have a history of indulging in sleight of hand when it comes to return fixtures, pleading the agreement only applied to semifinals or finals or matches played on the first Wednesday of the first month after the horse fair in Listowel!
We play Tipp in Tralee next Wednesday. I might opt to travel if only not to be subjected to the lazy, indifferent “commentary “ I was subjected to last night. Here was a man occupying the best seat in the house who was unable to identify most of the players. Contrast that with say a horse racing commentary on a handicap race which might involve twenty five or more horses. The commentator effortlessly and flawlessly identifies the horses as they change positions during the race . Why? Because he did his homework on the colours of the silks, caps , horse markings etc. I say do your homework Sir or vacate the the best seat in the house.

Proves my point minor and U20 becoming less relevant year on year .Dublin have proven that the best pathway to the senior team is from the club system .Paudie Clifford is the perfect example of a player who never played underage with Kerry but now has two all stars and an all Ireland medal and came through the club /divisional systemDublin have multiples of this type of pathway player and they have little interest in winning minor /u20 indeed there is an argument if Paudie did go in as a 20 year old and he has said this in interviews physically his body probably was not developed enough at that age and he would prob be washed up now like a lot of his contemporaries..

I think you’re well off the mark there, Paudie is the exception the majority of Senior IC players have played minor and u20/21. Dublin had a lot of success at u21 level in the past 15 years which helped them a lot, just don’t seem to have the talent currently.

I do not agree that minor/u20 is becoming less important as a barometer of future senior success. Have a look at the composition of our last senior success, 2022. The vast majority of them had successful or largely successful underage careers. Being successful at underage results in you garnering experience at representing your county and in playing in huge venues like Croke Park. Players like Paul Murphy and Paudie Clifford are the exceptions that prove the rule.
Dublin of course are the outlier in the sense that they are likely to have senior success by virtue of their overwhelming playing numbers and can, if they wish, be blase about underage achievements. Conversely, Tyrone’s senior success is largely based on their underage achievements. On the evidence of the Hogan Cup final they would appear to be in line for more success at that level.
Apart from the underage scene, I regret that the junior intercounty grade was abolished. I felt that was a very important stepping stone.
I accept of course that underage success is not a guarantee of senior success but it sure helps. An u20 All-Ireland would be very welcome in my view and why we cannot pull it off is baffling.

Paudie Clifford is a complete anomaly and isn't an example of anything. It's great to win minor and U20 and it can be a predictor of senior success, but really it's primary purpose is player development. Great to win underage but really the real barometer of success is how many players go on to senior.

Would love to hear the views of any spectators from the game tonight. From watching via clubber I thought the first half was desperate bad stuff. Paddy Lane was whipped at the break. Fair enough he didn’t set the world on fire but the ball was kicked over his head a half dozen times or more. Not much a corner forward can do there.
Cormac Dillon and Luke Crowley injected quality when it was needed but I’d have my doubts on it being enough next week to be perfectly honest.

Mind you, Tipp looked well up for it and weren't shy on the physical side either. Cavalry called up at half time and duly delivered. Gearoid Evans was outstanding in defence while Luke Crowley looks an absolute beast of a player. Paddy Lane had another disappointing evening and can have no complaints. Don't know how it came across on the box but in the sunshine at ASP, it was extremely difficult to tell the teams apart. Not sure how it was for the players but there were one or two kickouts that can only be explained by the keeper being confused.
