What scheduling genius has been let loose with this fixture - stick the game on late on a Sunday in the depth of winter in the furthest corner of Ireland from Kerry.
Its 400 to 500 Km of road home for any Kerry based fans to trek home after the game on Sunday night - what gives?? TV scheduling again??

Lads is there any word on Diarmuids injury? I know ligaments were mentioned but do we know the severity yet ? There are a few on the injured short term list, Briòn, Seanie, Gavin Crowley, Stephen etc.. there are a few. Are people expecting Savage t8 be available post the Narries elimination?

Jack's aim will be to win the league, even if it is with the fringe players. He will surely be demanding that of them and if they're good enough to make the championship squad, that shouldn't be impossible to do. Donegal under new management and struggling will be like a wounded animal; they will throw everything and the kitchen sink at home at Kerry just to start the league positively. They know they have a tough season coming up without Murphy. Like Monaghan they have just lost the player that dragged them along for a decade. Some great talent in that Donegal squad, but they need to start winning games to prepare for Ulster, as nobody expects them to win Ulster or an All Ireland. Doing well in the league and building on from there will be their priority. Likewise Jack will want to discover a few more gems in the league and strengthen the squad. I expect the teams will look quite similar to the team that started against Clare this weekend, but we might see some changes on the bench.

Yeah it's really poor, 3.45 on a Sunday It will be dark by the time the game is over. I'm planning to have dinner in Sligo and from Sligo down it will be mostly N roads and Motorway all the way down to Limerick. I'm bypassing Adare and Newcastle West so hope to home around midnight. Given that the kids have school the next day I can't see too many families travelling.

With the round robin system coming in this year the league has very little importance for Kerry. Main aspect is to blood the new panel members and give players who've played through the Winter a rest.

Main aspect is to blood the new panel members and give players who've played through the Winter a rest. It's important to maintain our division one status. Division one of the league will give us much more competitive games than the round robin. If we win Munster we will be a number one seed. The number 2 seed will be the beaten finalist in Ulster, Leinster or Connacht. That will be Sligo or Leitrim from Connacht. The number three and four seeds will be counties ranked 9 to 16 after the league. We will be lucky to get one tough game in the round robin group and 3 come out of the group. At least the old super 8s had 3 competitive teams in each group and only 2 advanced.

To cement that winning mentality. We can blood players whilst having a competitive team at the same time. Dubs won 4 League titles in a row between 2013-16 and went over 30 games unbeaten and it spurred them onto win All Irelands in the 4 years after also. Losing can become a habit just as easy as winning. Kerry need to keeping winning as many titles they can both in League & Championship.

Ya Radio Kerry confirmed in news bulletin of time change to 14:00hrs.
Common sense and the Gaa Fixtures Committee have been mentioned in the same sentence. 😁

Dgal are certainly regrouping and the people I'd chat with don't know a whole pile and sure hey, what's the big deal - hopefully they get back to the fore of Ulster anyway. An advantage of being exiled here is the amazing engagement with true GAA grassroots - I wouldn't even know some of their names but that GAA connection can be heart lifting at times when they get into the technicalities, they'd take you back decades to reinforce a point - headbangers like ourselves at times! What surprises some is that Dgal is a formidable soccer county - before McGuinness soccer would have been slightly stronger that 'the Gaelic' as they call it, though since then it appears as if rekindled that GAA flame in people's hearts. I had the notion that if Rory Kavanagh was boss and with Karl Lacey, it might tip the balance for a few undecided gaffers, maybe 5 - add that to the current compliment and you have the makings of a top Ulster team. Anyway it is a great start to season for us up here - then Mayo, Tyrone and Galway - 6 fecking months is a long sentence!

Ballybofey might be dead on a Sunday night in Jan but sure a few pints and away down to Meath on Monday morning.

Any recommendations for a pint or a bite to eat ? The restaurant in the Villa Rose is the best place in town. Beautiful steaks if you like steaks. Kee's Hotel also has great food. Conkers on Navenny Street is good food, mostly lunch dishes. Benny's on Main street is good for lunch. Never had dinner there. Heeney's U Drop Inn Bar do good food and good pints. But the Hotel has the best food in town. The Dog House, McKelvey's and Bonners Corner are the best pubs in town. If you have someone to drive after a few pints the bars in Donegal town are half an hour down the road and much better. Try the Olde Castle Bar & Red Hugh's Restaurant. The Reel Inn was voted best pub in Ireland several times and is a real Donegal pub. Personally I intend to have a bite in the Clayton in Sligo on the way back.

Any recommendations for a pint or a bite to eat ? You don't have to step outside the door, the food in the Villa Rose is very good, consistently - bar and restaurant. I don't know much about the pubs - there was a good pint in one across from the pitch but the last time I passed it looked like it was dúnta - ah just seen Seoirse's list!

Jazus do ye get out at all, the pitch hasn't moved since and there is plenty parking around McElhinneys Dept Store if you are early and in which case if you fall out the door of the car you might end up in the town side goal mouth! You won't have to walk far in any event, Finn Harps are based there so well able to cope with sports events.

Where will we meet before? I'll make as few enquiries - they might put on a Kerry special!
I got waylaid to watch a game by wan of our own a while back, so leave it with me, the pint was good.
DC getting amazing promo in Indo today - got sportstar of the year, above golfer McIlroy etc and who won €40m in 2022 alone - DC will never get a cent.
BTW what a roaring send off for Séamus Begley RIP, almost renews faith in mankind, laugheter and lore - bodhráns, fiddles and a harp littered in a seisiún congregation.
I once met him here in Tír Chonaill, while I may not fully appreciate his musical talent he was some character, he'd take you back decades in a beautiful way. Maybe known better outside Kerry that within, iconic in music circles all over the world.

Parking is behind the Villa Rose, but the hotel struggles with parking as well, and coaches are usually told to park there when there are no games on. I usually park further up in town and walk up to the pitch. Wee tip is to park down on the Donegal town side as you're half way down the road that way by the time the lads that are parked up get to the road.

Saw Seamus Begley play with the Sibin orchestra in the INEC just before Covid changed the world - was looking forward to hearing him live again but sadly not to happen. Not being a traditional music enthusiast I went to the concert by chance and came away a big fan. He oozed personality and made the accordion come alive - RIP
