IMO if they persist with Aidan O'Shea and start him Kerry will be out the gate before Mayo get a chance to catch their breath. He was absolutely awful on Saturday giving away the ball time after time. Granted the rest weren't much better but he's been the worst culprit for years. He must have some serious dirt on someone high up there as I cannot for the life of me see how he keeps starting for them. If he does start, I will be delighted. I am very confident in our defence but less so on MF and forwards - as someone said, individually there is no issue so really looking forward to seeing what they bring. Provided our MF breaks even and our forwards click then I would expect Kerry to win regardless of what Mayo bring to the table. Jordan Flynn is back now so they may not start him although he was good against Monaghan according to Off the Ball over the weekend. Was it Flynn who got injured in the League final after the hit by Barry (I recall it being a freak landing that hurt him and not the challenge itself)? That would explain AOS starting. Flynn would be a huge improvement on AOS and he and Ruane a serious challenge to our MF

I cant see Moynihan starting to be honest. Think as usual we will play with 2 inside so it will be Clifford and 1 from Geaney, Killian, Brosnan.
Adrian at 10 and SOB at 12. Seanie will be centre forward and Paudie will play out from the corner.

With regard to team selections and possible or probably match ups, firstly I think Kerry will line out more or lass as our league final selection with the introduction of Seanie. Injury and lack of sharpness will rob us of Dara Moynihan and now, by all accounts Dylan Casey. I would take it the lessons learned last year with regard to Dara Moynihan and his match fitness with Tyrone will have been noted. For this reason I see the following taking the field: Ryan, Graham, Jason, Tom, Brión, Tadgh, Gavin (White), Diarmuid, Jack, Adrain, Seanie, Stephen O’Brien, Clifford, Geaney and Paudie. Bit unlucky on Killian, he was superb against Limerick, but one has to take into account.. it was Limerick. Geaney is a different animal in Croker and to have two of the calibre of Killian and Tony to spring as well as Moran and Gavin Crowley is serving us well.
Match up wise, I think Mayo will aim for Oisin Mullin to take Clifford with Hession man marking Geaney, this will allow Lee Keegan tail Paudie and have him further up the field to try put us on the back foot, I also think Mayo are a better team without Aidan O’Shea, and the wins against Dublin last year and the comeback against Kildare, the side had a better balance when the big Breafy man departed. I suspect, Horan will keep him in reserve to come on and balance the aerial expected onslaught on Moran’s introduction. Hopefully they start O'Shea as he is so over rated, but I think Horan may have eventually seen the light in this regard.
Whereas we can’t dictate who marks our forwards, we can assign our back unit accordingly. I think on form Jason is a better match for Cillian O’Connor with Tom Sullivan tasked with Carr, outside them, Gavin White for me should be assigned Diarmuid O’Connor and Brión more than capable of tagging Loftus.
Adrian’s reintroduction for me is imperative to our defensive structure as in the stability of Jack Barry and Tadgh. We need more from our Diarmuid O’Connor, who has been relatively quiet in our last two outings.
We have a strong panel, last two high profile games, the league final and the 2019 super 8 were cake walks for us... if Kerry have any real ambition they should score likewise.
Regardless of m thoughts on the above any injury updates on the lads who missed or departed during the Munster Final?

Regardless of m thoughts on the above any injury updates on the lads who missed or departed during the Munster Final? I agree 100% with everything said here. I think Mayo would miss a trick with Mullin on David Clifford, Mullin isn't a man marker. Mullin is best driving from deep. Maybe Coen will go full back for this for David and have Oisin CHB.. The team picked is probably the best for facing Mayo. We definitely need Adrian in there to match the Mayo midfield. I think the only call is maybe between SOB and Moynihan. I agree SOB is miles ahead of Dara most days but Dara has a nack for winning breaking ball around the middle which will he crucial playing Mayo. I think Mayo will make a few changes, probably Flynn in midfield with Ruane and AOS dropping out, Ryan O Donoghue for Carney if he's fit and I'd be guessing Boland for Jason Doherty as well. The only thing that will lose Kerry this game is if they don't turn up. If Kerry even reach 70%-80% they should have enough to win regardless of what Mayo turn up.

As others have mentioned Mayo seem to finish with a stronger team than they start with. They will be hoping to stick with Kerry for as long as possible look to win the game in the last 10 minutes as per recent games. Kerry could be out of sight by then but if we're not it'll be a good test.

Well thought out post Horse but also I reckon Ryan Ó Donoghue will be back and imo he is Mayo s best forward. Tom Sullivan has struggled on him before but maybe at championship pace things might be different I though Tom played well in League final against Ryan in the wide open spaces of Croker, I know we’re back to questioning the capabilities or challenge of Limerick, but Tom kicked three points from play and was sharp on the ball.

I believed this to be the greatest Kerry panel ever but they need to kick-start that real 'I'm Kerry' ethos like their predecessors, just be that bit ballsie, etc - this is my Sam and I'm taking it. Some amazing games to be played with so much unknown quantities, let's hope we have the most of that, Mayo game will be a classic, do or die for a few of them but they are capable, they are beaten AI finalists so they are to be respected, both teams will bring out the best in each other, and whatever about us, they'd probably relish another slice of blue flesh, roll on July 26. That's a big statement Bally but not sure I can share your views. We are strong nó doubt but there are faults. Our backs seem to be settled and now look the strongest part of our team but our forwards are not the real deal yet. Individual talent is not disputed but I have yet to see the whole forward unit play well together since the magical display v Cork in 2018.David Clifford is the most talented forward in Ireland but he can be quiet at times and can drift out of games. When he is on fire some of the other forwards seem to be quiet. We don't know yet is it Geaney Killian or Brosnan upfront (altho for me Geaney a must). Adrian Spillane a brilliant worker but do we lose scoring power with him? Sob? Midfield is another dilemma. I love Diarmuid as a footballer and he would be on my first 15 everytime but as a midfielder he drifts in and out of games too. Maybe I'm wrong but I did nt feel we were as good as folk made out during the league. I was at a good few games and while we got the results it maybe papered over the cracks. League final was sublime but let's be careful. I do think we should have too much for Mayo but our midfield need a big shift. In a way we are seeing more or less the same thing, I'm just hoping they can get it together on the day and go on from there - it well enough set up for us. Mayo are the dream opponent in many ways and many will see our next game as the the AI final; then again who knows?

The football QF's in Croke Park are selling well according to an article in the Examiner - they went on sale this morning and so far 35,000 tickets have been sold for the Sunday double bill and 24,000 for the Saturday double header. This is excluding season ticket sales with these expected to add another 5000 to the Sunday fixture.

Secured 304 myself. Wierd new system used for tickets selection even for season tickets. You could see what blocks had spare seats and then select your ticket. Usually you just get given a random ticket in 304-305 from my past experiences with the season tickets.

Now..... to take out a small mortgage to get there!🤞

Does anyone know if there’s buses going up on the day of match? If you're travelling from Kerry, Kerry Supporters Club will no doubt run buses. there should be details soon on local media and here is a link to their contact details www.kerrygaa.ie/executive/sub-committees/I don't assume all Kerry people live in Kerry hence my opening sentence.

I think we can squeeze mayo in the middle and put them on the back foot from the off all talk in media is about kerry forwards being put under pressure going the other way. But from 8 up they have been poor kildare dominated the middle for a lot of that game I think our wingbacks can make hay here there half forward line bar o connor has been awful so far this year and I think beaglaoich and white can cause just as much damage as the mayo backs. I know its mayo but I think we will have 2 much for them with the injuries they have up front I just can't see them getting the scores required.

716 myself Dávin upper was all I could get. Bringing 3 kids with me so I was having trouble getting 3 juvenile and 1 adult together. Anyway sorted now anyway. My 3 kids are Dubs but 2 of them support Kerry. One is a diehard Dub. If you don't have enough tickets for the final, you now know who to drop! 😂

I am normally one of the more cautious on here but, for once I will go against my natural instincts and say I think we will win pulling up. Forget layoffs etc, sport science has come on so much in the past decade I think the gap between games is no longer as big a factor as even 5 years ago. The problem last year was the constant moving of the goal posts in relation to the Tyrone game resulting in us being unable to time our peak properly. We have know the weekend of of matches from a long way out this year.
Mayo thrive in chaos and our games with them have tended to fall into shootouts. I can't let Jack and Paddy Tally letting that happen. We have been working on a defensive shape since January and I don't think it will change now. Our backs all seem to be in good form and we have options off the bench in Crowley and Murphy.
Our midfield has been solid if unspectacular and we have Moran waiting in the wings. A half forward line of SOB,SOS and Adrian Spillane should provide enough of a mix of brains, brawn and skill to get enough ball into Clifford and company.
In short I fancy our backs to do a much better job of holding their forwards than vice versa.

big demand for this double header, Armagh bringing thousands book your ticket or you will end up in lower davin Upper Davin and terrace is now what remains. Lower deck completely sold out. Crowd could be anywhere between 65,000-70,000 it seems by the time the game comes around.

I don't know. Just from reading the mayo blog and Hogan stand it's the over earnestness that annoys me. Typical stuff about being the sixteenth man. But it's the condescending attitude to other supporters. We will follow our team anywhere etc, we need to make ourselves heard. Best supporters in Ireland..
If they were a bit more demanding of their team they might actually win something. All the players are put on a pedestal regardless of how they play.

Amazingly, they lose finals in pairs Yes it is amazing. To my knowledge no team has ever lost 3 in a row. Galway 1940, 1941. 1942
London lost 4 in a row from 1900 to 1903, but they always had a bye to the final.

Oh wow. Never knew that. Thanks Moderator. While I'm at it:
Kerry have lost 23 finals, but only once have lost two in a row: 1964 and 1965 (both to Galway).
On only 6 occasions have Kerry lost a final and won the following year's final - last done 2008/2009, also 2005/2006 but have to go back to 1968/1969 for previous. 1954/1955, 1938/1939 and 1923/1924 complete the list.
Who says you can't learn something on this forum?

True enough and they gave them better games aswell tbhm Pointless beating Dublin along the way unless you go on and win the bloody thing. Unfortunately that’s our fate so far. Our final record is pathetic and embarrassing. Last years non show in the final was the worst of them all. It could be a long time before we are back in a final again.
