I was thinking leaving Croke Park how would I have felt if Rocks shot that hit the post had of been punched in by one of our lads and we had of won. I had a strange feeling that it would of come back to haunt us later in the year. 3 in a row requires something special , Dublin have been the only show in town for a while now, every team scrutinising how to beat us. Kerry eventually beat us on Sunday , Tyrone should of early in the league , Where Rocks two last minute frees landed separated the results and the narrative for the next day. I know Dublin tried a couple of things in league that will not be used in championship. But they had to be tested against certain teams to see the outcome. Kerry will rightly feel rejuvenated and feel they can now go toe to toe with Dublin anytime and win. Dublin and Jim Gavin glad the questions have been asked before championship starts. 3 in a row wIll not be done without new goals and focus for Dublin. I feel we needed Sunday for that, if Kerry prevail in September this will be the game that will be remembered. If we prevail in September this will be the game that's remembered. Stating the obvious but events meanwhile will overtake it -killer instinct in Autumn provoked by league matches, the only significance is that our youngsters beat yez at their first attempt in Croker and they will build on that foundation. Dublin could go into psychological freefall from having to prove themselves and coupled with the competition for places they talk about could have them sap their energy in training. All this ballsology re if Rock did this 'n' that, if Moran found the net, if the ref in '15 did his job, and also in 2011 ... history would be different! Enjoy your moment.

Re: the punishment dishing, do you have incidents as example? I thought the overall focus was on playing football but likely missed stuff, again I thought the atmosphere was pretty positive, it didn't appear a nasty game to me but??? Philly McMahon throwing punches at Paul Geaney on two occasions, McCarthy throwing a punch at Donnacha behind the Umpires back, then later in the game throwing a dig into his midriff in front of the camera near the sideline (Donnacha went down but had to get up quickly as Dublin were on the attack), Connolly getting the black for wreckless pull down on Crowley G. There was probably more but I can't remember offhand. The thing here is that Kerry focussed on football and Dublin seemed to want to get the hard hits in. When the game is reffed fairly and with balance football will always win out. These were the main incidents as well as MDMC on Crowley. MDMC had no intention of winning the ball. He stretched his arms to make sure his elbows would make contact with Crowley's head. Dublin players don't go to win the ball - they go to impact with the player (as MDMC did) and if there is a second Dublin player around he will have another go at the player on the way down. It was like a collapsed maul the way layers of players climbed off of Paul Geaney a few times in the second half.

I'll go one better, there was a now infamous article in The Economist of all places that concluded that money took from the ultimate success of sports. The authors didn't have knowledge of the GAA, didn't even pick up on the pride of place that is the Ryder Cup. Now I'm not sure what this has to do with my annoyance that Quirke and others make out we upset the bear while the Dubs blame the narrow defeat on the ref, with Gavin says it was down to bad selection. Now I don't know what it is that people don't get, but watching the game again and thanks to yourself for pointing us to the video, but it is blatantly clear to me that the story of the 2017 National League Final was that our lads coming through beat Dublin stalwarts in Croke Park. This to me is the turning of the corner and while I expect close encounters ahead, you'd have to say that we are the up and coming team. What amazes me is why one has to explain such a logical deduction to Kerry supporters. I anticipate a flood gate here, what with the u21s and JO'D, etc still to put in a show. As a side note I wonder with Moran playing like never before could his 'born again' program induce Tommy Walsh to his former self. Now there's a novel idea and if we had him we'd transform one Padraig Power into Paddy Poor. I would like David to sharpen a bit though and in case anyone thinks I'm getting ahead, I also think Kealy is suspect under pressure, so plenty to work on before Johnny B becomes the first man to climb Hogan for the second time in the same year -latter open to correction!

McMenamon took 11 steps to score that goal. David Moran was being fouled when he kicked that point and to give a free out which I take it is what your saying would have caused uproar. Again, McMenamon took 11 Eleven steps.... 5/6 you could forgive but 11 looks wrong in any man's book! Again I am being extremely petty here but seeing as you insist it's 11 steps I just took the time to check it on Youtube there. By my count he took 7 steps and if I am being generous to you he took at the most 8. I don't know how to upload the relevant piece of video on here to prove it but I'm happy for others to do so. So yes it was a technically a foul, but again the legend grows as the years pass and you have managed to bump it up to 11. On the Moran one, he was being challenged while moving. This is not the same as a foul as players are allowed to tackle. We are going round in circles now so we may as well park this before a neutral calls you out on your 11 steps claim. Ah we'll be here all day! I just watched it again myself and yes I was incorrect. Slow motion replay shows he was on his 10th step when he kicked.... Either way.... 10 is a hell of a lot more than 4.... At the time I was screaming that he over carried.... It looks all sorts of wrong... That was a massive turning point in that match and essentially won the match for Dublin... A huge call that should have been a free out....

God bless you but you must be spitting feathers all this time cos the ref lost you ALL those games. Fair play to Kerry on their 1 point win in April however, one swallow does not a summer make. Let's see how your youngsters do in championship!

Have I landed on Hoganstand? Unfortunately it looks like we are heading this way here. Maybe the forum has become a victim of its own success. Now it seems to be attracting more and more adolescent types, tit-for-tat merchants, insomniacs and fellas putting up messages obviously drunk. Come back Fat Tom, all is forgiven.

No, the reason this thread is falling off the rails is because (after months of shunning) posters are suddenly indulging someone who really shouldn't be indulged.

Anyone else think that gavin erred in removing cian osullivan.. Mikey geaneys two points from straight down the middle straight after. From my perch high in the cusack it was obvious what importance dublin place on protecting the space in front of the D ..but that sort of fell apart when cian went off

Kerry had a lot of joy in the first 15-17 minutes of the 2nd half running through Dublin. The Geaney frees for example had happened when Cian O Sullivan was on the pitch. Paul Murphy had pushed up on him and when O Sullivan went off, Ciaran Kilkenny went back on Murphy and started attacking from a centre back position. Thats what maybe opened up the centre a few times for Mikey to run through. But Gavin probably felt he had no choice but to make that change as Dublin hadnt scored yet in the half (I think). So you could argue that once O Sullivan went off, Kilkenny dropped back and Dublin started attacking Kerry it worked, as Dublin probably our-scored us by 4 points after the switch was made. PS - I hope he has to do it again next time we meet. It'll be a good sign.

I know he's an incredible, fearless defender but I think nowadays, where positions don't mean what they did 10years ago, he's a great link/support player/runner and that he excels in the freedom of not having to manmark.

A lot has been made of Connolly going off being a turning point, but watching it again, he hit a great point and gave a great pass for another point but he also hit two wides and gave away possession twice so he was actually not doing great at all.

I have watched the game three times already and im very impressed with Kerrys second half tactics. They moved the ball quickly down the wide channels and into scoring positions. They played into Dublins barrow in the first half but im very impressed the way they came out and played that second half! Plenty heart and spirit but more importantly Fitzmaurice seemed to lay out the groundwork very well for that win.

Back to back is extreme football, three in a row a very difficult bridge that will test Dublin to the limits. Time will tell if all the Dublin players have the hunger to retain the All-Ireland. The gate is wide open after last Sunday with Mayo, Kerry and Tyrone eyeing up the Dubs now. I feel we needed Sunday for that, if Kerry prevail in September this will be the game that will be remembered. If we prevail in September this will be the game that's remembered. Hunger and drive will be the big question marks for Dublin going into the Summer and probably wont be answered until the All-Ireland final. Dublin will beat Tyrone, Donegal might be a sticker assignment in a semi final. The big two on the other side being Kerry and Mayo if no one ambushes them in the provincials. There are signs that Brogan, Andrews and Flynn are declining, three starting forwards from an attacking unit that have scored lightly in the past two All-Ireland finals v Kerry '15 & Mayo '16. Dublin may need to reinvent their forward division, is the well really that deep in Dublin? How fit will Cian O'Sullivan be come summer and what hunger and drive will McCarthy & McCaffrey bring to the table. Small is proven to be a top class defender. You'll get what you always get from McMahon & Cooper inside, hard uncompromising full back line players. Every successful team needs them. The big conundrum, can Fenton deliver three straight years on the spin in the Dublin engine room? A huge ask from a young player. Who'll play along side him to give Dublin an 80 minute impetus? Kerry will go toe to toe with Dublin this summer on a par with Mayo's efforts last year but crucially Kerry will have better forwards than Mayo did. Dublin's bench played a huge role in closing out games against Kerry in '13'15 and '16. Kerry will at least match Dublin's bench in 2017. I believe the gain lines have narrowed. It really boils down to hunger and attitude and Dublin's hard core ambition to win the three in a row. None of the three are a given and are central uncertainties in narrowing gain lines. I don't believe there is much between the teams, a rising Kerry and a Dublin team on the the road for a while now. Tralee and Croker in April have not been fake news, as some would say. Which will have the greater hunger, hard to know if Mayo have enough aces & wild cards to beat both.

What worries me some of us think that anyone who disagrees with them is loopers -loopers are losers, never heard such negativity in Kerry after such a momentous victory, moreover as our lads coming through gave previous stalwart Dubs a dousing they weren't expecting. I am also told by someone in the know that Spillane is jumping out of his skin in training these days, and he could only still manage to be brought on. Say as some will, I am more confident than hopeful of Sam coming home and we will have the auld canister at xMas!

Is Mannion not as good as I think he is? I see some Dublin fans elsewhere saying that while he did very well when he came on he has been poor on a few occasions when in the starting 15 and pointing out that he was against a tiring backline etc the last day. You would think that even taking into account his year in China his lack of progression since 2013 is a bit worrying.

I cant recall him at underage level Wouldn't be too sure that it will pan out like that. He got 2 good points but his main job was to nullify Moran and that certainly didn't work. Although he's inexperienced he has been around the panel for a number of years, if he's going to make an impact it has to be now.

Gives defenders real problems with his pace and direct running. Hasn't delivered consistently. Hope he gets a good run at it though, as a firing Mannion should always start in Dublins best 15.

Watched the game again last night. Have to say I was very impressed with Jack Savage's performance. He got through a serious amount of ball and rarely made the wrong decision. His kick passing is excellent and he acted like a play maker. Surprised his performance hasn't received much attention.

I thought Andrews did ok, he was on form, the problem being Shanahan had a whale (there it is again) game too, on him. Andrews is a very tricky customer, quick feet, shift of weight and balance. Huge performance from Shanahan. Flynn has definitely regresses since the imperious showings in 2014. Still a fair operator but not one of the prime crown jewels anymore from my viewing.

What was it for? Apparently it was for mouthing off to the umpires during the interval, presumably re the altercation between Donnachadh Walsh and James Mccarthy.

I watched the first half last night. The energy and intensity was mesmerizing. However, as well as our defence was doing and as much ball as our half forward and mids were on, the interlinking going forward from midfield forward during the first 20-25 mins was not good. Some terrible unforced sloppy passes, by hand and foot. That said there was no lad not showing, all the new lads were up and counted, but we lost a lot of potential scoring positions from possessions at this time. A couple of terrible balls into Paul. At least 3 kicked to Dublin player to pick up unchallenged. Now Dublin made plenty of errors too, my point being a lot of ours were unforced, that's the rub.
Very impressed with Griffin, he was very positive and very aggressive, attacking every ball, really brought his abilities out to shine. Brogan had to pack in the chase on one occasion as he thundered up the pitch. Kilkenny was Dublin's main man in first half, class act. Running from various angles from deep, two great points, of each stump, second one on a Johnny Sexton like overlap. Morley did struggle with him in first half. He's Dublin's most important forward, by a long way in my view (disclaiming the need for Rock for frees)

Over the past six years the ones that gave kerry most grief consistently in my view were cluxton, bernard, mdma and mcmenamin. Only mdma really hurt us on sunday of those four. That was significant i feel
