Nauseating stuff from Gavin considering all the huge referring errors/calls that have gone in Dublin's favour at Dubs Park starting with the Leinster semi final in 2011 right through to last years All-Ireland semi final against Kerry. Game deciding calls perhaps influenced by the home comforts Dublin enjoy at Croke Park. It must be worth 5-6 points to Dublin every time they play there. Anyone who uses the term Dubs park doesn't get to call anyone else nauseating ! Nauseating would be Dublin offering to come down to play Kerry in killarney at Kerry Park in an All-Ireland final with a Cork ref living and working in Killarney, Liam Kearns director of stadium security on the day, Sean Kelly stadium director, Dublin warming up at the Finians end, Clare and Limerick linesmen.

Childish is gavin suggesting dublin are not a cynical team. His credibility is called into question by that. When he says inexperienced refs shouldnt get the big games....it follows that the usual suspects should be used and we in kerry have good reason to be concerned about those. Gavin must think we are fools....

There are narratives and there are facts. I'd say that Gavin is irked by the fact that when Fitzmaurice referenced a narrative against his team that alleged cynicism that no mention was made about the fact that Kerry's number of black cards significantly dwarfed Dublin's despite Dublin having played more games . It was the most glaringly obvious response to Fitzmaurice's subjective analysis of a number of incidents over the last number of years but he was given a free ride on it . The fact was only really addressed by the media a number of weeks later when the black card " charts " were released. He talked about a narrative that was portraying dublin as a cynical team- all I'm doing is asking for evidence of this. You're taking off on some meandering tangent that really has nothing to do with my request- you're essentially answering a question that no one asked. I'm just speculating as to what Gavin's motivation was to make the comments. I think it's a strategic response to the comments made by Fitzmaurice before the league which went unchallenged . I think it's ridiculous to suggest that he wishes to select the referee. I think every county in the country feel the ref favours the other team and this is intensified when you are on the wrong side of a result .

Gavin (and his close cadre of PR and Press advisers) has this thing completely under control. And he has had a completely free run from the so-called journalists. This is the first time that there is the smallest hint of people questioning his manipulation of the message.
Example: When Dublin beat Mayo in the 2013 Final, in the last 10 minutes Dublin players rugby tackled Mayo players all over the field, both on and OFF the ball. Within 10 minutes of the final whistle, Gavin was sliding in with his sideways complaints about the manner in which his players had been treated and not safeguarded. The narrative immediately became the heroic story about how they held out with O'Gara etc hobbled by injury. Not a single word from one journalist about the wholesale rugby tackling all across the pitch.
It was the first time that I remember a Football Manager complaining after winning an All-Ireland.
I confidently expect a compliant Press to carry a number of further oblique musings from Gavin about "cynical" football as we come closer to the Championship. All this from the manager of a team containing McMahon, Cooper, McCarthy, MacAuley, Bastick, O'Gara.
In fact, I admire his attention to every detail in keeping Dublin to the forefront. But, undoubtedly, one of his biggest weapons is the compliant nature of the Dublin-based media.

It got plenty of attention not least in the immediate aftermath of the game on RTE.

Brolly with his usual wax lyrical souring from his arse at the weekend about Kerry players in the recent league final. His depiction of Jonathon Lyne's black card being particularly disingenuous.

F our times in that game, Kerry players went down holding their faces, then lay on the ground. Four times. I have never seen anyone get hit on the face, even in a fight, then immediately hold their face. Wladimir Klitschko nearly got his head knocked off with an uppercut on Saturday night and he didn't hold it. Even when he was knocked down. Nor did Anthony Joshua. But the Kerry boys grabbed their faces even as they were going to ground, hoping the referee would send their opponent off. They'll have been cheering that in the bars of Kerry! The bit in bold is by Brolly. Does anyone know what incidences he is referring to.

Wouldn't give JB any oxygen by discussing him personally.
As for the rest, people will think we are genuinely deranged if we start complaining about Dublin based media when you can't swing a cat for columns by former Kerry players.

Is it John O'Keeffe, or Pat Spillane, or Dara O'Se, or Tomas O'Se, or Marc O'Se, or Eoin Liston, or Billy Keane, or Micheál Quirke, or now Colm Cooper, or Declan O'Sullivan, or Dara o'Cinneide? Or James Horan, or Willie Joe Padden, or Ger Gilroy and his band of Mayo and Kildare loving henchmen. Or Martin Breheny, or John Fogarty or Ewan McKenna or Colm Keyes? Or Ciaran Whelan or Paul Curran or Mossy Quinn or Senan Connell? Take your pick.

I dont think anyone is complaining about there being a large contingent of Dublin GAA heads in the media- it's how these people are using their columns to draw narratives and influence referees. To be honest this has been well covered at this stage

At this stage I reckon this thread should probably be closed down, going around in circles. I haven't read Joe Brolly's article nor do I wish to. I was disappointed in Jim Gavin's comments regarding referees, cynicism etc but instead of tearing our hair out worrying about it we should concentrate on supporting our lads in the hunt for Sam. Roll on summer football. Ciarrai abu.

Off topic but isn't it strange that there's not one ref from Dublin considering population, number of clubs etc.

When Paidi was the manager he banned his players from media interviews. EF should do likewise going by this ridiculous stuff from Johnny Buckley and Sheehans inflammatory comments prior to the 2016 game v Dublin.

It's only when you see a full list that it jumped out at me, Meath have 3. I wasn't trying to stir, it's just the list was posted on this thread and it struck me as odd.

Joe being the ref who sent Connolly off in mayo semi despite being held on the ground by keegan (around the neck I recall) and getting slapped by Cillian o Connor at the same time. He also black carded McAuley and Bastick in the final quarter. Hardly the actions of Dublin s no1 ref. I think it's fair to say the dubs and Kerry are in credit with the 50/50 decisions when up against other opposition. Neither county can really complain.
