Thanks ruralgaa - I think the keeper might be Dara O Shea from Ballydonoghue I believe...I have heard Liam Carey will be out injured for a lot of the year and needs an operation so I'd say he could be discounted from the panel at this stage

Being honest jack could have given 7-8 players that he feels may make the team but not 100% sure about yet for the McGrath cup Sunday - would be a better place to judge them on rather than some challenge games against templenoe and CIT

I really hope they don't persist with Ryan at full forward. As the future Kerry senior keeper (the near future too), I hope they leave him between the sticks. Not for a moment saying he isn't up to playing outfield as he is well able but Shane Ryan in my opinion can become the best goalkeeper in Ireland within the next 5 years. Apparently he wants to have to cut out the field himself, think he was earned the right to have a chance out there, has served a good spell in goal and performs consistently well for the club out the field

"Can become the best goalie in 5 years" - the eternal optimist in me is delighted not alone about Ryan but that derry4sam is gifted of such powers of anticipation. I hope you are right and you may well be, but such long range prediction is brave. Anyway, what do you think marks him out to the extent that you think so highly of him? Our current goalie has clicked and if he stays on that upward curve he will be formidable, then again who knows from year to year. The new centre of excellence campuses will really up our game.

He is definitely good enough to play outfield but I think Kerry need a keeper and Ryan could be our keeper for the most part of the next 15 years. Very important to have continuity in that position, builds rapport and confidence between keeper and defenders also. I rate Kealy higher then most do but I feel Ryan has the ability to easily surpass himself and Kelly in the next few years. In my opinion 'ballythefireside', he has the physical presence like Murphy had in goal for Kerry coupled with the agility that you would expect from a smaller man. His shot stopping was really helped from his soccer background and he is super in the air as you can see from him playing outfield with Rathmore. He has a great kick out and is a deadly free taker. Kealy, while being a super shot stopper still always looks like a disaster waiting to happen under a high ball. I am always interested when people use the term 'great kick out'. Do they define it like what seems to be the case with Ryan where length of kick out is viewed as a great kick out. I'd disagree, his kick outs arnt bad but tend to be very high and loopy as opposed to Kealy and Shane Murphy who 'ping' the ball out at a low trajectory

I can remember seeing a former Kerry minor keeper play a couple of years back for his club and I had heard great things- he was able to balloon the ball but it went out over the sideline about 5 times in the game and the rest were coming down on a midfield/half forward line where they were being cleaned out- it just seemed pointless but everyone was happy as he was kicking it 70 yards

I'd define great kickouts as always giving clean possession or a high percentage chance of it to the furthest away safe choice. Shane's kickouts were simply brilliant for the Kerry minors. Having seen him play full fowrad for theEast Kerry minors and corner forwrad for the seniors, I can see that being his preferred position long term. Hopefully he can avoid injuries; he is a real talent. I don't see Brendan Kealy going anywhere soon, he is the current All Star in the position. In fact, I think he rarely gets the public credit for his achievements with Kerry.

Any of the 2015 Minor team likely to be involved? Andrew Barry, Marc O'Connor, Brian O'Seanachain, Jason Foley & Conor Geaney in the panel- Jack Morgan was there but I understand he is injured at present and may be out for a while- Barry & O'Connor likely to push for a starting role.

Cathal O'Luing is in the panel, also Rob O'Se & Robert Wharton; Cormac Coffey recovering from a recent groin operation, Jack Morgan is injured, Conor Jordan also in the panel. I think that Tomás O'Sé could also be available!

If that panel does not win an all Ireland - there is something seriously wrong. I think Carey might be having an op so not sure if he will be in the panel - serious talent there

Just over six weeks to the first (and hopefully not the only) game in this competition for Kerry - playing Tipp on March 9th (scheduled for Austin Stacks PArk). Really hope we can get a run in this competition this year and give this crop of players a few months serious prep and game time with JOC - will benefit them and the seniors if they can get a run going. Still think the timing of this competition favours the counties with big universities where travel is not the same issue.

Any news on what's happening here lads, were only 4 weeks away from the tipp match. How are the injuries progressing? Has the panel been cut?

Team taking shape with a few surprises in store- they played UL recently in Limerick and though well in arrears at half time pulled back to earn a draw; other challenge games in the pipeline against county opposition. Probable team based on recent games: Eoghan O'Brien Brian Sugrue Brian O'Beaglaoi Tom O'Sullivan/Pat O'Connor Cormac Coffey ( not fully recovered from injury) Andrew Barry Matthew Flaherty/Greg Horan Barry O'Sullivan Rob O'Se/Greg Horan Micheal Burns Brian Rayell Eanna O'Conchuir Jordan Kiely Killian Spillane Jack Savage Liam Kearney is struggling with injury, also out are Liam Carey and Jack Morgan; Mark O'Connor unlikely to be fit enough to start against Tipp but should be available if we progress; Shane Ryan is said to prefer an outfield role and Robert Wharton and Conor Keane are also not currently involved. Other panellists are Sean T Dillon, Shane O'Connor, Stephen O'Sullivan, Tony Brosnan, Cathal O'Luing,

Jack Savage in the corner? Eanna at wing forward? I'd imagine that means Eanna dropping in as an extra midfielder with Jack playing in the half forward line.
