Surely there are improvements to the present fixture. As a delegate to the County board for a number of years I have seen and continue to see difficulties in our fixture program on a yearly basis. However the CCC is made up of just 3 or 4 County officers, the remaining members coming from each of the district boards (football and hurling). So its not as if the divisional boards not having a descent say in what happens. Criticism for the sake of it is having a cheap shot. At least have the decency to recommend where all these fixtures are played. We are in a County where we are really lucky to be challenging for silverware on the National front in both hurling and football on a regular basis. For example in the last 12 months our hurlers are in the Christy ring final 2014 and also won the All Ireland B minor hurling final. So far this year our Senior hurlers have won the div 2A league, the play off game with Antrim and now the Christy Ring cup. In Football in the last 12 months our Minor, Junior and Senior teams all reached their respective All Ireland finals, winning as we are all aware of the double in September. The Club scene followed with all 3 football clubs, Brosna, Ardfert and Austin Stacks winning their provintial titles with Brosna and Ardfert winning famous National titles. Within the schools sector PCD won successive Munster and Hogan cup titles. When we are being critical of our County board I feel it is important to factor in all these points. As far as I'm aware the County secretary is the only full time person within the Officer board, all remaining officers have to juggle full time jobs with their County duties. At times expectations can be very high on people's voluntary time and while constructive criticism is always healthy, criticism or abuse for the sake of it can be most unfair. I would urge all those of you with a genuine interest in our crowded fixture calendar which by the way is in the middle pages of the County Eolaire to read the document and see what if any improvements can be made. Maybe a discussion group where all the relevant people and the any other outside people who have ways of improving the current calendar of fixtures should be considered and see are our current CCC that much out of touch are are their hands tied by a lack of actual dates.

There are threads filled with suggestions as to improvements that can be made, there should be no need to repeat these every-time someone wants to critique the county board. I'm all for constructive criticism, but there comes a point where anger and frustration takes over and it's understandable anger and frustration.

I agree with cool1 above.
I propose that the losers round in the County Football championship be done away with. That's one way of solving things.

Radio Kerry Sport @radiokerrysport CCC proposal on County C'ship games is to award wins to Mid Ky & Brendans but West Ky & Shannon Rgrs will contest this. - This would be a ludicrous decision to come to. They can't punish Shannon rangers for having players on Kerry hurling team and West Kerry for players competing in Gaeltacht competition. The county board have lost the run of themselves lately! I understand that some time ago, Ballyboden St Endas (Dublin) referred, to the DRA, the matter that one of their players, that they needed for Senior Football Championship was also required by the hurling inter county manager. DRA found in favour od Ballyboden. So this year with the replay of the Dublin V Galway hurling game, all teams that had a football player required by the Hurling manager got championship games off. Some of players were only panel players but once they were required by the Inter County manager that was enough to have the games off. However this was CLUB V County so I don't know where a divisional team , Shannon Rangers, stands on this. I don't know where West Kerry stands on this but it is doubtful, if they object what rule covers their situation.

There is a double header in Listowel this Saturday (15 days before the Munster final) with Feale Rangers taking on Ardfert and Shannon Rangers playing St Brendan's. It will be interesting to see if Anthony Maher and Shane Enright will line out.

Shannon Rangers 1-20 St. Brendans 2-14 HT 1-8 1-8
This was a terrific game with little between the sides. Even though Shannon Rangers looked the most likely winners all through they found St. Brendans extremely tenacious and very difficult to shake off. Indeed, there only one point in it with time fast disappearing but they finished the stronger. Ger O'Gorman came out to catch a great ball and knifed his way through to score a fine point. The irrepressible Mikey Boyle added another coffin nail or two to clinch the deal.
Shannon Rangers opened up what looked like a significant lead as the first half progressed courtesy of a fine goal from Barry O'Grady, a major presence all through. Just they were to demonstrate in the second half, St. Brendans refused to lie down and they were especially rewarded before the break when the classy and influential Brendan Poff soloed through and neatly planted it in the net just inside the post. Level now as the whistle blew for half time.
Again in the second half, Shannon Rangers looked the more impressive but a goal from midfielder Conor Daly, set up by Cillian Fitzgerlad, let them know that victory was going to be hard earned. That is the way it transpired with both sides converting some fine scores but none scored with the same frequency and conviction as Ballydonoghue's Paul Kennelly. Paul was very feeble against Dr. Crokes but he more than atoned tonight, scoring 0-6 from play and 0-5 from frees. A masterful display. Barry O'Grady added three points to his goal. Mikey Boyle got 0-3 and the impressive Ger O'Gorman got 0-2. I may have missed a score or two.
Conor Daly got 1-3 for St. Brendans. Brendan Poff got 1-1. Cillian Fitzgerald ,scoring 0-2, looked impressive at times but he gave the impression that he could have exerted himself a little more. Alan Fitzgerald from John Mitchells , who sparkled for the juniors last Sunday, came on as a sub, worked hard and I felt he should have been fed more ball. In that respect, ex Kerry player, David O'Callaghan was inclined to take too much out of the ball.
Unlike Anthony Maher in the first game, Shane Enright did line out but surprisingly at wing back where he had a good contest with Michael Griffin from Na Gaeil who did kick ? three points.
Kerry minors Jason Foley and Brian O'Seanachain(nephew of Tomas O'Flatharta apparently) did not line out for Shannon Rangers.
Feale Rangers 3-9 Ardfert 1-11 HT 3-4 0-4
Like the second game, this game again ensured that one got good value for E10. Ardfert had oceans of possession in the opening half but found scores a scarce commodity. Damien Somers and especially Maurice Corridan began to mop up a lot of possession as the half evolved and they were well rewarded on the score board with goals coming from Brian McGuire, waltzed has way through untouched by human hand, Paudie Quill and Conor Cox. It looked as if the final curtain was dropped at half time. Ardfert have a tendency to ignore final curtains. And so it was tonight. They came out in the second half and gave as good as they got, a lot more than they got. I have often heard it said that John Egan would be on the Kerry team, the football team that is, if hurling was not his femme fatale. After watching him tonight, I can appreciate the assessment. I thought he was special. Skillful, clever and brave he scored three from play and two from frees. John had an apprentice tonight who may usurp him in time called Brandon Barrett. Oh this fellow is a lively customer. He scored a wonderful goal and did a lot of other tricky things. Is he on the minor panel? Either way, the Arfert lads played with defiance and spirit in that second half. Have they any other way of playing? However, Feale Rangers had warriors two in the likes of Maurice Corridan, Brian NcGuire, Damian Somers and Conor Cox and eventually they prevailed.
Somebody said that Conor Cox and Jack McGuire played for UCC last night in the Cork county championship?

Barrett is on the Kerry minor panel and played against Clare having come on as a sub. McGuire & Cox did indeed both play in Cork last night where UCC were beaten in extra time by Beara-Cox scored 9 points- UCC included 9 Kerrymen in their starting line up.

I remember about 4 years ago John Egan played a hurling game for Kerry up the country on a Saturday and broke two fingers. He arrived back in Ardfert that evening in time to line out for Ardfert footballers against An Gaeltacht and kicked about 4 points. Darragh kicked a 45 at the end to level it.
His football brain operates at a level of a county man.

Given how successful our teams have been at provincial and national level in the last 12 months, I think its grossly unfair they are getting the stick that's happening on here.
Some errors have been made but these lads are volunteers and its a thankless, somewhat impossible Task Given the 100's of games and permutations that take place every summer. Even juggling something simple like the Kerry hurlers, Shannon Rangers/Ardfert, the Kerry juniors and all the associated clubs is extremely challenging

Good report as usual Veteran but you have Ger Gorman mixed up with David Culhane who got the excellent score for Shannon Rangers at the end. Culhane and Dara O'Shea also played with UCC in Cork on Friday as did Kevin Shanahan who played with Ardfert.

Shannonsider,
Thanks for that correction regarding David Culhane/Ger O'Gorman. The problem was that Ger O'Gorman rather than David was listed as number thirteen on the match programme. The other problem was that while the public address system operated for the first game it went mute for the second game and obviously this compounded the difficulty, for me at least.
That late and very important point which I attributed to Ger O'Gorman, which you tell me was scored by David Culhane, was a wonderful effort. He drifted out to midfield, fielded a high one, took off and scored. He played very well. I was told earlier in the year that the reason David and indeed Conor Cox were not on the Kerry panel was because very likely they would be in the U.S. for the summer. But obviously they are still around.
Talking about players wearing the wrong numbers a similar incident happened in the first game. Feale Rangers brought on a sub during the game wearing number eight which of course was Anthony Maher's number on the match programme. Anthony was no where to be seen. Players wearing numbers which differ from that on the match programme should attract a fine for their club. A bit of respect for supporters would not go amiss.

Imagine the outcry if Gooch or Donaghy get injured in whats likely to be a "no holds barred" game between Stacks and Crokes. Both teams down a lot of players who are gone away for the summer but it wont take away from it hopefully.
I'd say Eamon Fitz will be watching these games from behind the couch.

Well we can't criticize Donegal and in particular Jim McGuinness and then start to adapt his principles. It's one or the other. If Gooch or Star get injured playing for their clubs then so be it, there would be new Gooch or Star without their clubs. Kerry training games are just as risky.

Fair enough Seamo but since the start of May there has already been 3 weekends with county championship games on. If Kerry lose on Sunday week they are out again the weekend of July 26th, two weeks after the county championship games. I don't think anybody wants to suspend the county championship until Kerry are out, but I think these last 16 round of games could wait til after Kerry are out.
And also there is less chance of some guy in Kerry training going out to "do" the likes of Donaghy or Gooch than there is in the county championship.

When the pitches are good. And the weather isn't too bad. And there are no exams. Contrast that to the week after week of games in April, May & June.

They get some roughing up, but what you alluded to in your first post was an injury, eg. twisting an ankle/pulling a hamstring all of which are just as likely to happen in a Kerry training game. Is it really that often that a Kerry player misses an intercounty game because some club player "did" him in a county championship game?!!!

The first man I though of when I saw that draw was Hugh...... It's a great draw and will be very exciting. Both sides will be missing players but I expect Horan and Guthrie to come home and play for Stacks, likewise with Daithi for us. Shane O' Callaghan will be a big loss to Stacks along with Bohane, Conor Jordan and Denis McElligott. Crokes were drawn out first giving them home advantage but I would imagine the most likely venue would be Fitzgerald Stadium in a double header with Legion and Feale Rangers. I'm gong to go with a narrow Crokes victory. Dingle St. Kierans Legion Kenmare Rathmore East Kerry Roll on July 12th.

I am open to correction, but I think that the lads are travelling to the US on a 60 day sanction, in which case they can't come home and play for their 'home' clubs in the meantime. Both sides are going to be very understrength for this one, but I think Stacks will be missing more - as it stands I would fancy Crokes to win this.
