Was at the Kenmare Rangers game today - Kenmare looked really good and were it not for the Rangers keeper would have been out of sight by half time - he made a superb double stop during said first half. Second half and with Rangers pushing on to get back into it left loads of space for Paul O Connor, Killian Spillane and Stephen O Brien to make hay. Will take a good side to beat Kenmare - have arguably the best forward line left in the championship. Rangers were poor with only their keeper and Crowley playing well. Paul O Connor and Killian Spillane were excellent but they will have tougher tests ahead without doubt.

Dr. Crokes 1-11 Austin Stacks 1-10
We had scarcely settled into our seats when Dr. Crokes had the ball in the net. Daithi Casey made a wonderful, incisive run and found Colm Cooper where he should always reside- in the corner. Colm rarely looks at a gift horse with disdain and and neither did he today. He put it away with his usual aplomb. It meant that it was uphill for the Tralee lads all day thereafter. However, they did succeed in gaining plenty possession in that opening half, playing with the wind. Their problem was that their shooting was off target, mostly from long distance. The other problem for Austin Stacks was that Michael Moloney was dealing comfortably with KD. On the other hand, Dr. Crokes were more positive and purposeful. Brian Looney and especially Daithi Casey were very prominent and Johnny Buckley was a marauding workhorse at midfield. The result was that Dr. Crokes led by four points at half time, more comfortable than the scoreline suggests, in spite of playing against the wind.
Crucially, KD lined out at midfield in the second half . To his credit, when he simply could not get his hands on that ball in the first half, he took over and dragged Austin Stacks from the precipice to a position where they looked certain to draw the game at the very least. He kicked a magnificent long range point into the bargain and he did more. He managed to position himself at the edge of the score to powerfully fist home a goal which lifted the stadium. Some man for one man. And then, how ironic that he played a part in the winning point for Dr. Crokes. Level scores, with time drifting away, Austin Stacks are awarded a free about the midfield area. Kieran grabs the ball and spent an age looking about trying a find a colleague. Eventually, he feels he has found a willing team mate, there weren't too many claiming the ball at that stage, but calamitously the pass is intercepted. Eoin Brosnan gains possession and splits the posts for the winner. How cruel sport can be. No fault Kieran
Even though the margin was the minutest at the end there was no question of Crokes stealing it. They were the better balanced team and it is going to take a hot outfit to beat them. Colm Cooper scored that goal and three from frees. He did some other neat things but, as yet, he is only Colm Cooper in appearance. Dare one hope that the elusive butterfly will enchant us once more in 2016. Kieran O'Leary is a notable loss.
One man who disappointed me today was Shane O'Callaghan. This man is a terrific player but he made no contribution in that second half. I am not sure if he was being chaperoned by Fionn Fitzgerald. Fionn was very tidy as usual.
Legion 2-10 Feale Rangers 1-11.
As the scoreline suggests this game had an exciting finale but little else. It was peppered all through with frees.
Anthony Maher and Paul Galvin did not line out for Feale Rangers but yet, even playing against the wind, they were the more impressive outfit in the first half. Legion were very tentative and often took too much out of ball. In that first half JO'D played on the forty and was involved in most of the better Legion exploits, as he was all through the game. Conor Keane looked very dangerous in the corner ans scored two points. He moved out in the second half but achieved little in his new address. On the other hand , Conor Cox on the forty and Noel Kennelly at full forward for Feale Rangers were causing Legion endless problems. Noel scored three points in that opening half. In the second half he was forced to move to midfield where he made little impact. As far as I can recall, it was 0-6 each at half time.
Legion stepped it up in the second half, playing with the wind and Jamie O'Sullivan was the dominant midfielder. He scored two from play and one forty five. Once Legion got their opening goal death row beckoned for the North Kerry lads. JO'D, wisely at full forward for the second half, was involved a couple of the times in the move before cracking it home. It was he also who crossed in the ball for the their second goal, finished by ? Donal Lyne.James scored 1-1 from play, two from frees and one 45. Legion were comfortable now but gave away a penalty towards the end which terminated their sojourn in the comfort lounge. Conor Cox blasted home the penalty to enable his team to be challengers again. Deservedly, Legion survived an unnecessary scare at the end.
Cormac Mulvihill was a lively abrasive half forward for Feale Rangers, kicking three fine points. Conor Cox scored two from play , one penalty and two frees but he was inclined to take too much out of the ball.
Here is a question for any Legion members on this forum. Jonathan Lyne is a fine wing back for Kerry and has had a very good year at that level. Why was he allowed to languish all afternoon in that position, practically redundant, while Conor Cox and Noel Kennelly were proving very formidable opponents for their markers in central positions. It is utter madness to deploy one of your top performers in that fashion.

Tight finish today in the Stacks v Crokes game with the first half like the All Ireland Final, everyone expected a tight game, good football and a great atmosphere but unfortunately it failed to deliver on all counts. In the second half Donaghy moving to the centre changed the game and it unsettled the entire Crokes team and with his presence all of the Stacks boats started to float. It's a game that will haunt Austin Stacks for a while as their wide count was their downfall. The Crokes kicked a few beauties one of which was kicked by Casey who caused the Stacks defence all kind of problems with his running. Gooch looked ordinary which is a word I have never ever used to describe his play, hopefully he will find some stardust and reassure us all that he is back before this campaign ends, good luck to him and his team.

Paul Galvin not playing for Feale Rangers yesterday makes further mockery of the decision to play him in the All Ireland final. I'm not surprised Maher did not play, considering the remarks made to the media about his non appearance in the last round by the Feale Rangers manager.
Dingle must have taken their eye off the ball after last weeks win in the club championship. Other than that the games went as expected. Pity about the Crokes-Stack game not living up to its billing. The county championship needed an "epic" games between top sides.
Crokes still look vulnerable but Rathmore wont catch them next week. The winners of Legion/Rahillys have the best chance of beating Crokes. The other sides will probably be satisfied with making it to the semi final.

Trust me lads - Kenmare will take some stopping - really good forward line - experience might catch them - won the U21 last year or year before so good pedigree in their ranks

Shane O Callaghan was picked up by Michael Moloney for the majority of the game and Eoin Brosnan picked up KD until he went to midfield in the second half where he changed the game after an ineffective first half. Yes, Kieran O Leary is a notable loss for sure but Jordan Kiely is an impressive replacement to be fair. Jordan had a good game kicking 3 points including one screamer in the second half but he suffered from a lack of supply in the second half like the other Crokes forwards. Eoin Brosnan had a fine game throughout with the exception of one horrific pass, he showed great leadership qualities and stepped up for the winning score. Daithi Casey had a fine first half along with Johnny Buckley but both faded in second half. Many Stacks players would be disappointed in their performances and when the game was on the line they failed to get over it and have yet to beat this Crokes side in county championship. The championship is wide open and in my opinion West Kerry, Rathmore and Kilcummin are probably the only sides that do not have a realistic chance of winning it.

Thanks KG. I'm not so sure about gooch getting captaincy though it's much too early to make that call with the co championship really up for grabs between a lot of teams but I do think that we hold the most likely chance of winning it. On their day many of the teams left in it are capable of beating us which they have proved in the past however if we perform we should get over the line. Another draw for the semi finals.
I will go for;
Crokes Legion South Kerry Kenmare

I will go for; Crokes Legion South Kerry Kenmare I would agree with 3 of the above but think Strand Rd could be too good for Legion; Strand Road's performance on Sat night was top drawer against an East Kerry side many here had tipped to win; this was no fluke and in Tommy Walsh, Jack Savage & Barry John they have potential match winners; add in David Moran & Cormac Coffey and you can see a strong spine to the team; they also seem to be hitting form at the right time- following their loss to Crokes in the league in June( unlucky on the night, 0-14 to 1-10) they are unbeaten beating Stacks, Kilcummin, Waterville, Milltown & now East Kerry; the most recent meeting between them & Legion was the club championship in April when Legion had a one point victory- Strand Rd had only 2 of the 6 defenders in action on Sat night from that game and are capable of better things. Their recent win in the county U-21 championship shows how they are progressing with many of that team eligible again next year and pushing for places on the senior squad.

Well Veteran the report is on the website - however here are a few lines.
Rangers actually started well and should have been further ahead having missed a few frees towards middle of first half. Kenmare then kicked into gear with Paul O Connor and Killian Spillane showing well and Stephen O Brien becoming more influential as the half wore on. A feature of the half was a brilliant double save by Lyons the Rangers keeper and a good save at the end of the first half by the Kenmare keeper.
Kenmare kicked into gear in a big way in the second half - Rangers pushed on trying to get back into it - leaving too much room where the Kenmare forwards did wreck. Paul O Connor grabbed the first with Adrian Spillane kicking a brilliant second goal a few minutes later. The one way traffic continued with Rangers offering no threat throughout and Stephen O Brien stuck a good third goal in the last minutes.
As stated Kenmare will be difficult to stop and have one of the best forward lines left in the championship. Definitely a dark horse with the Templenoe and Kenmare lads also goon well in the county league.

That is a good point alright - it's kind of unbelievable really that a whole season gets runs off over 4-5 weekends - a situation that drastically needs to be looked at for the club player. Throw into the mix this year the whole relegation from the championship playoffs, the junior semis yet to be played, intermediate final - it's crazy really that so much football is left until this late in the year. Factor in also the divisional championships and the Kerry representation in Munster - there must surely be a better way to calendar out some of these competitions.

You could very well be right about Stand Rd, there will be little between the sides in the finish I would be surprised if either side won by more than a few points. Strand Rd seem to be finding form at the right time but I feel that Legion have the players to shackle their forwards and im not so sure I could say the same about Strand Rd defence. Legion very very narrowly for me.
