Tom O'Sullivan's record possibly only bettered by Dermot McNicholl who played in 5 McRory cup finals, winning 4. To play 5 years on a school team from a school that's 5 times the size of PCD is remarkable. Also played 4 years with the Derry minors and in his last year with the minors was also on the Derry seniors. Captained his club to a county title when he was 19.

PCD seem to have an endless supply of young footballers, bodes well for Dingle in the coming years, I do believe the majority are from dingle, would I be right with that assumption? I must mention the notable achievement by Tom Sullivan who has 4 Corn ui Mhuiri titles under his belt. This truly is a remarkable feat, to even play 4 years on a senior school team is an achievement but to win 4 munsters in a row is simply outrageous!! Anyway fair play to them and best of luck in the final. Did Mark O'Connor also play on the four winning teams?

According to earlier posts in this thread No - Tom Sullivan has four on the field of play and Bambury has four with his first as a sub. To be on a senior school panel or team for four years is a remarkable achievement. Funnily enough I think Kerry won three minor titles back in the day when the green were doing their four in a row - not sure if the years march exactly or not.

Yes that is correct about Bambury. Amazing achievement. To play in 5 McRory Cup finals is unbelieveable, it is hard to even comprehend a 14 year old (possibly 13) competing with 18 year olds is nothing short of miraculous!!!

I saw PCD play St Pat's Cavan in Hogan Cup semi-final last week at Nenagh. They are an very well drilled side with some inspirational players as well. Brian Begley looks a great prospect with his reading of the game and strong skillful surging forward. Mark O' Connor will always produce a trademark high catch or two from the clouds and at full forward, O' Muircheartaigh shows great movement and kicking ability, as does Conchuir O' Geibheannaigh. Tom O'Sullivan is more than every bit worthy of his 4 consecutive title as some of the authors state here. Jo is right about Dermot Mc Nicholl''s appearances in 5 consecutive McRory (Ulster Colleges' Senior) finals. It was with St Pats Maghera in 1980-1984. And he won 4 Ulster titles but only 3 in consecutive years. '80 was his first. Then St. Colman's Newry won in 1981 captained by Greg Blaney of Down, before Mc Nicholl went on win his other 3 medals. So Tom O'Sullivan and Cathal O' Bambaire have created history in Colleges football at senior A level. I look forward to the next game - the Hogan Cup final with Rosmommon CBS. The football is great to watch in quality College's games. The best football match I ever saw was Colaiste an Sceilge V St Jarlath's Tuam in 2002 at Limerick Gaelic Grounds. It was end to end stuff and offered excitement, skill and sportsmanship to behold. The score was something like 0-20 each after extra time with only 3 points coming from frees. Bryan Sheehan, Declan O'Sullivan, Gary Sice and Michael Meehan all played that day. I missed the replay which they say was just as good. I look forward to Hogan Final 2015!

I didn't know Seamus too. Thanks for the info. It's all the more noteworthy if there are 3 players.
I must watch the footage as mentioned too by Diego. These games especially at Hogan semi and finals deserve transmission.

Any Kerry folk living in Dublin with Saturday afternoon free could do a lot worse than head to Croker and watch PCD - they play a lovely brand of football and hopefully will do the double.

Adult tickets for the schools final are more expensive than adult tickets for the league semi final double header the following day! How does that make sense??

It doesn't. My 1 year old son was charged €5 to get into the final last year, I held onto the ticket!
Best of luck to PCD tomorrow, a massive occasion for all involved.

Crazy prices! For the final of a competition where I challenge anybody to find me a result/report in printpress/ online for schools games come October! Munster isn't too bad but nothing special - Leinster and Connacht have nothing in reporting and ulster has its own cillrges website with weekly updates on all grades and bbc1 showing live the ulster schools final. With a bit of foresight and vision the GAA could get behind the promotion of schools games in a serious and creative way. But in truth their significance is questionable at headquarters. And yes tomorrow it will be €20 in to see the hogan final. I challenge any patron to call into the croke park museum while there and you will not find ONE shred of history to do with this competition. That's despite great players from far past to recent past like Seamus Moynahan, Mike Frank Russell, Padraig Joyce, James mc Cartan and more recently Niall Morgan,(tyrone), Shane O'Rourke(meath) and Niall Coleman(Galway) all having won Hogan medals. And that's just a sample! Many more greats have nearly grasped a Hogan medal like Pat Spillane and Paudi O Shea and Fionn Fitzgerald. Maybe 1979, you should leave your ticket and that of your son with the GAA Museum. It might prompt the powers that be to start a new collection saying as they value the Hogan Cup so much!

League semi final double header tickets are 15 quid- schools final are 20 quid! Its a bit nuts to be honest- 2 senior games between intercounty teams is cheaper than 1 match between teenagers!

Its not like Croker are going to remotely break even for this game. A tenner would have been a fine gesture, if not a free gate for the families that will travel.

PCD making hard work of it - Roacommon far more economical with 4 scores from 5 opportunities compared to PCD's 4 from 12. PCD clearly better but rather slow in build up play and accuracy is poor by their standards.

By Eoghan Cormican
The hands raised in interest were few. When Eamonn Fitzmaurice handed back the Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne bainisteoir’s bib last May, there was no flood of CVs lodged in the staff room to replace the Kerry boss.
Sure, the school was still basking in the glow of a first Hogan Cup win and less than a month into the current academic year, three students of the Dingle nursery would play a key role in Kerry’s first All-Ireland minor final win in 20-years. Still, not many takers. The problem being that, irrespective of who stepped into the void, unless a fourth successive Corn Uí Mhuirí crown and back-to-back Hogan Cup titles were delivered, the year would be deemed a failure.
Consider then no school had completed the four-in-a-row in Munster since the famed Tralee CBS side of the early 30s, while only six schools in the 61-year history of the Hogan Cup had defended their All-Ireland football crown. The reservations of the Dingle teaching staff were understandable.
Ciarán Ó Móráin had overseen the school’s senior team for a 10-year period up until 2009. He was at the helm for the 2001 Drummond Cup win, holding but a peripheral role, however, as Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne ascended to the summit of schools football over the past three years.
Johnny Flannery, Muiris Mac Gearailt and Vinny Flannery assumed the reins for the 2009/10 campaign. Fallers at the semi-final hurdle that spring, the team went one better the following year. In March of 2012, the three men were still present on the sideline as Corca Duibhne annexed its maiden Corn Uí Mhuirí crown.
Fitzmaurice, assisted by Tomás Ó Beaglaioch, Tommy Griffin and Seán Ó Dalaigh, delivered two further Munster titles and the breakthrough All-Ireland victory. Having worked with the current crop since they arrived into the school five and six years ago, Ó Móráin’s hand was held highest when Fitzmaurice handed back the bib.
Realising the influence carried by members of recent management tickets, Ó Móráin retained the services of Tommy Griffin and Tomás Ó Beaglaioch, while also bringing on board 2012 winning manager Johnny Flannery.
“Who wanted to take that job? Realistically, no-one. You were on a hiding to nothing,” said the Irish and Geography muinteoir.
“Look, somebody had to take them. I’d been there long enough and had been involved with these lads all the way up, competing in the Russell Cup, Moran Cup. I was in charge of them when they won the Frewen Cup two years ago.”
He added: “I’d be at pains to point out what an asset Tommy Griffin is to us. His experience as a player, having won five All-Irelands and his ability as a coach is phenomenal.”
Ó Móráin praised the underage structures in the feeder clubs and said the school has been blessed that a “special bunch” just happened to arrive through their doors at the same time.
“The success of the last number of years is stemming from the three clubs supplying the players – An Ghaeltacht, Daingean Uí Chúis and Lios Póil. While there are no players from Annascaul on the senior team, there are a few on the junior team. Our U15s are in the Russell Cup final after Easter against Tralee. There is a mixture of all four clubs involved in that.
“Of course it is a great help that a special group of players came through the doors together. From first year onwards, this group has been successful. You look at someone like Tom Ó Súilleabháin and all he has achieved during his years here. Then again, there are very few members of this panel that haven’t won something or other with the school. Very few will leave empty-handed and that is a great testament to the work in the school and in the clubs.”
Such has been the success enjoyed by Dingle students that today’s outing will mark a fourth Croke Park appearance in the space of 12 months for Ó Súilleabháin, Brian Ó Beaglaioch and Marc Ó Conchúir.
“It is obviously a help that the majority of them have been there before. Now we have to remember there are a good number that weren’t there last year. The experience of the other lads is crucial to bring these guys along.
“You can see their experiencing telling at training this week as the sessions have been relaxed. We expect their experience to tell again when we take to the field Saturday. There will be no looking around in awe. They know what to expect, they know what is at the end of it.”

Back-to-back Hogan Cup glory for Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne
Eoghan Cormican, Croke Park
Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne 1-12 Roscommon CBS 2-5
Five points in the final six minutes of action delivered Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne back-to-back Hogan Cup glory this afternoon.
The reigning champions led by 1-7 to 1-5 turning the bend for home when they were rocked by a Conor Shanagher goal.
Cathal O Bambaire levelled matters in the resulting play, seizing on Seamus Ó Muircheartaigh's short free. Ó Muircheartaigh returned Corca Duibhne in front on 58 minutes and three more white flags before the finish from Gearoid hIci Ó Brosnacháin, Conchúir Ó Géibheannaigh and Ó Muircheartaigh rubber-stamped victory for the Dingle football nursery.
The sides had returned to the dressing room at half-time level at 1-3 apiece. The reigning champions enjoyed the majority of possession and chances, but were left frustrated by Roscommon’s 14-man blanket defence.
The Roscommon school were composed and disciplined at the back, frustrating the Dingle attack. Nine first half wides spoke volumes of the pressure coming on the Corca Duibhne forwards when they came into possession in the scoring zone.
Brian Ó Beaglaioch and Conchúir Ó Géibheannaigh pushed the favourites into and early advantage and they moved four clear when Ó Géibheannaigh cut inside Adam Whyte and offloaded to Seán Ó Gairbhia, the centre-forward firing to the roof of the net.
Roscommon responded through lively corner-forward Noel Gately and Richard Hughes (free), drawing level with a well-worked goal on 28 minutes.
Marc Ó Conchúir was dispossessed at midfield, Gately sprayed a quick ball inside to the unmarked Conor Shanagher who produced a sublime finish. Crucially when Roscommon CBS did hit the front in second-half they were unable to hold the inside lane.

Well done PCD they had to dig deep again. They know how to win matches. Hopefully down the road they will wear the green and gold at senior level. I thought Conor Sullivan was man of the match and conor geaney not far off

PCD were superb in the last 8 mins after conceding the second goal.
Begley at CHB won a crucial ball and drove forward. It led to the equalizer. All the key men down the middle took over in that spell.
Is Conor Geaney a brother of Paul? The footpassing by Tom Sullivan was lovely to watch. Is he the same lad that on the 2015 Kerry minor team?
O'Conchuir won man of the match last year too I think. A serious prospect no doubt.
Congrats to PCD and the feeder clubs. The future of Kerry football is bright thanks to those who coached and brought these lads on.

The Tom Sullivan at no. 7 was on last years minor team. The Tom Sullivan at no. 3 is playing at corner back for the Ky minors this week against Clare.

Eoghan Cormican
Pobalscoil chorca Dhuibhne 1-12 Roscommon CBS 2-5: Patience, then enterprise. One without the other and Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne’s stay at the summit of schools football was at an end.
The Dingle students had been left frustrated by the sight of 13 red jerseys operating inside their own half of the field. The Roscommon CBS wall, composed and disciplined for the most part, prevented the trademark bursts of Tom Ó Súilleabháin, Brian Ó Beaglaioch and Marc Ó Conchúir, prevented the open style of football that had returned the champions to a second successive Hogan Cup decider.
Forced to stray from their game-plan, Corca Duibhne’s first-half performance amounted to an endless string of lateral hand-passes. Back and forth across the 40 they went. More often than not, a Dingle player would reach his wits end and shoot from too ambitious an angle. Nine first-half wides. Picture painted.
The lateral hand-passing continued at the change of ends, their patience in dealing with the blanket defence marginally improving. Clever build-up play, even if painfully mundane from the neutral’s perspective, saw Ciarán Ó Móráin’s charges outscore the Connacht champions 0-4 to 0-2 to establish a 1-7 to 1-5 lead turning the bend for home. On 51 minutes, a floated Ryan Horan pass put Conor Shanagher in the clear. As the Roscommon CBS fans rose in expectation of a goal, the full-forward pulled his effort wide. The turning point, surely.
But, in the ensuing play, Horan fed Noel Gately and his attempted effort was punched to the net by Shanagher. The underdogs, eight minutes out, led for the first time. Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhe had been patient in dealing with the blanket defence, enterprise was now required to dismantle it. Cathal Ó Bambaire then levelled matters, latching onto Seamus Ó Muircheartaigh’s free. On 58 minutes, Corca Duibhne laid siege to the Roscommon goal. The ball was worked through the hands of Gearóid hIcí Ó Brosnacháin, Seán Ó Gairbhia, Brian Ó Beaglaioch and Tom Ó Súilleabháin who spotted the slightest gap and threaded possession through to Ó Conchúir. Foul.
Ó Muircheartaigh con- verted the resulting free to return Corca Duibhne in front and there followed a familiar tale of Dingle spirit and imagination: Gearóid hIcí Ó Brosnacháin, Conchúir Ó Géibheannaigh and Ó Muircheartaigh (free) landing the insurance scores.
Prior to Shanagher’s goal, Corca Duibhne had registered eight scores. In the final six minutes, they kicked five points. “We wanted to see football win out and we eventually cracked them open,” reflected Tom Ó Súilleabháin.
“It was frustrating to play against and we had a lot of wides. You just have to show your patience around the middle. We couldn’t really go on the runs today that we are so fond of. Mark [Ó Conchúir] and Sean [Ó Gaibhia] showed a lot of patience around the middle. Eventually, we got through.”
The wing-back, lining out in the white and red for the last time, is the sole member of the winning team to have featured throughout the four-in-a-row of Corn Uí Mhuirí titles and back-to-back Hogan Cup wins. Did we mention the All-Ireland minor medal captured along the way. “It feels like a dream. The whole thing has been this amazing rollercoaster. It is unbelievable.”
Ó Beaglaioch and Ó Géibheannaigh pushed the favourites into an early advantage and they moved four clear when Ó Géibheannaigh cut inside Adam Whyte and offloaded to Seán Ó Gairbhia, the centre-forward firing to the roof of the net.
Roscommon responded through corner-forward Noel Gately and Richard Hughes (free), drawing level with a well-worked goal on 28 minutes. Marc Ó Conchúir was dispossessed at midfield, Gately gave quick ball to Shanagher who duly obliged.
Scorers for Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne:
C Ó Géibheannaigh (0-5, 0-3 frees); S Ó Gairbhia (1-1); S Ó Muircheartaigh (0-2, 0-2 frees); B Ó Beaglaioch, G h Ó Brosnacháin, M Ó Gormáin, C Ó Bambaire (0-1 each).
