Kerry continually get shafted by the GAA. From my memory players have a 100% record of getting off incidents if their next game is against Kerry. It makes me wonder when did a player last have to serve a suspension against Kerry? Players due to be suspended v Kerry but got red cards suspended: Anthony Lynch 2006 Donnacha O'Connor 2008 Diarmuid Connolly 2011 Where there was enough video evidence to warrant a suspension in their next game which was v Kerry: John Miskella punch on Brian McGuigan, Bannon decides a yellow was sufficient Noel O'Leary punch on Graham Geraghty, Crowe decides a yellow was sufficient where Kerry players got suspensions based on video evidence which were at worst were equal to the above incidents, but McStay and Tohill demanded suspensions: Tomás Ó Sé v Limerick Paul Galvin v Cork Personally of the 7 incidents above I believe Donnacha O'Connor's red card was the only one not worthy of a suspension and even still it could be argued as the correct decision under the "minimal contact" rule. That doesn't even bring in the whole Galvingate of '08 affair. You could add McQuillan 2011 in to the mix. The whole thing stinks. Galvin or Tomas would have been done for what keegan did, no doubt about it.

Im a mayo man and i agree with the kerry people Lee keegan did strike out even if there was minimal contact, the intent was there. Bad decision again by the gaa, shows how unjust the organisation can be. If it was Paul Galvin he would not be allowed play. I feel kerry do not get the decisions by the Gaa or officials. There all ireland final defeat by Dublin was some of the worst refereeing decisions i have ever seen, but the gaa wanted the dubs to win because the money they bring to the gaa. Likewise they want Mayo to win because of our lack of success and huge support. In fairness Kerry people don't complain and get on with it. Looking forward to Saturday i still think Mayo have the better team and if they attack Kerry we should get over the line. Our full back line is vulnerable to high balls in particular but I still think if we can sort that out through switches in personal, we should pull through.

It is very wise of Eamon to stick with the same young team. After all we are supposed to be rebuilding and nobody expects Kerry to win Sam this year. That said though I think the young guns outclassed some of the veterans coming on. Stephen O'Brien gave a master class until he had to be replaced and Mikey Geaney, who was criticised by many, including me I have to admit, had the game of his life. We always knew there was great potential in the young guns and they showed it last Sunday. Declan is a great player but he wasn't as good as O'Brien was before Declan came on. Likewise Bryan Sheehan, who looked ragged and lazy. Geaney set the world alight and was constantly unmarked. If Kelly would have spotted that we could have won every single one of our own kick outs. I suppose Sheehan was fully match fit so won't go down the lazy player route, as has been done so many times in the past. I hope he shows tomorrow why he is considered one of the best. I think he just had a bit of a bad day. My obvious choice for replacing Mikey Geaney would have been Lyne, a similar player who can both defend and attack like the best. I can't understand why Lyne wasn't introduced, but he must not have been producing the goods in training or Eamon wanted experience. Paul Murphy and Shane Enright have been solid in defence and last Sunday they showed they are the future of Kerry football. The jury was out on Enright, but he has been turning out some great performances as of late. Likewise the always reliable Aidan O'Mahoney; not the best fullback in the game, but his enthusiasm, passion and hunger is greater than that of many young players in the game today. Remarkable how he can still be so fit at his age. In contrast Marc Ó Sé looked uncharacteristically out of pace. I'm a huge fan of MOS and the Ó Sé's, but this was not one of his best games. A solid performance but one expects more of him. Crowley and Fionn looked men possessed though and Fionn actually made a very good captain. The tradition of the county champions choosing the captain isn't always a good or a logical one, but Fionn is a natural leader. Dare I say it, but I hope the captain's armband stays with Fionn even though Crokes won't win the county championship. Midfield was supposed to be our weakness and Mayo were expected to be on top there all game, but for most of the game Moran and Maher outshone the two, there Mayo midfielders and Aidan O'Shea constantly had to go back to win the ball. If Kelly's kick outs would have been better placed, we could have destroyed them in midfield. Mostly due to Moran in my opinion though Maher is solid and dependable. Mayo played most of the game with 8 midfielders, having the halfbacks and halfforwards operating around the middle third. HopefullyKerry won't get into this crowding again as it hammers there natural style and as the Mayomen are more physical it is where a lot of ball was lost. The middle third looked like a battlefield most of the match with every ball going in there a fifty-fifty ball until Mayo came out on top in the second half and started controlling it. Almost all of the many frees were conceded there.
Buckley, Donnchadh and Mikey were an exemplary half forward line with all three winning the breaking ball in midfield. Off the three though Mikey constantly went into open space and he could have won so much ball it would have been embarrassing. Most of his game he was looking for the ball, but wasn't given it. When Geaney did get the ball his kick passing was second to none. I hope this Saturday whoever is operating around the middle third recognises the free man and uses him. There will be a lot less space though but I think that would suit Geaney and Buckley. The less said about Donnchadh though, the better. Not in a bad way, far from it. Anything we say can only take away from his performance. Words cannot describe how instrumental he was. Like Geaney and Buckley his kick passing was rarely off and the 3 young men at the front thrived on it. Brings us to JOD, Paul Geaney and O'Brien: 3 of the best forwards in the country in my opinion. It was a shame to see O'Brien come off as he had Mayo on the run until then. The 3 have so much space, are so naturally gifted.....they have it all. They are exactly what Kerry forwards should be like and it was a joy to watch. Not to take anything away from Declan, but style changed a bit when he came on and I would have loved to see him come on at a later stage in the game. One can see how Darren would have further improved the forwards if he woud have been able to play. I hope his injury is not as bad as it sounded and I hope he will come on during the game. Kieran O'Leary, Barry John Keane and Star have not been our favourites for a while now, but when they came on......oh my word. Mayo did not know how to deal with Star, a mistake which they won't make again I think, but Barry John and Kieran livened up the scoring a lot. Star's hand off to JOD was reminiscent of his one-twos with the Gooch and came straight from the training ground. I doubt they can do it again though as Mayo would have watched the video over and over while kicking themselves and shouting profanities.
All in all, this Kerry squad is in a better position than expected and given they know Limerick so well they should prevail. The difference not so much being the players or the subs but the men on the sidelines. Eamon is a much better tactician than Horan will ever be and even though I can't understand why Lyne didn't come on instead of Sheehan there must be a reason for it and I fully trust in Eamon's judgement. Looking at the forwards especially some of the golden years came into my mind and I wonder if Sheehy has anything to do with that? All we need is a bomber, but I think Star can play that role. I can't be the only one who noticed he has put on a bit of weight and no longer looks like a skinny beanpole. Star looks fit and tall and dangerous and his velcro hands were back on Sunday. If Kerry can use Star in the right way at the right moment it will change the game.
I hope Kerry indeed press on and play in the green and gold. None of that respect ******, this is the kingdom and the kingdom play in green and gold. Mayo will probably play in Red anyway so no problem there.

Lads, will you stop about the red card and move on? It was quite a soft red card to give and though I can't see why it was rescinded I'm delighted to see a great player like Keegan back. A kick or an attempted kick is a red card and we could all clearly see it was an attempted kick. A red card was the only option there though it was ultra soft and handbags stuff. Fair play for Mayo for standing up for your man. In my opinion the Kerry county board are often way too nice and not ruthless enough. Like the decision to play in blue and not in the green and gold. It might not be the Kerry way but they need to start showing other counties the same respect they show Kerry and give them none. Time for the Kingdom to be respected again and for the green and gold jersey to be feared.

Questions:
Will Kerry have to play in Blue in Limerick?
Will Mayo have to change their colours?
Why was it Kerry that had to change the last day ...and not Mayo?
So many questions, I have no time to rant about Kicker Keegan.
Bring him on and let him kick--if he gets the ball....

Or the same ref in another game let them get away with murder in terms of cynical fouling, off-the ball-baggery, time-wasting, and so on? If the same ref was tapped up in public by the opposition coach before a major game about what to look out for etc? You need greater evidence to back up conspiracy claims.

Watched first game again last night (on mute, couldn't stomach T Carr). Crowley was immense in the last ten minutes. He made a great run for a vital point to cut the gap back to 4. He then horsed Seamus O Shea off the ball under the Hogan. He also picked up a vital break that led to either the goal or the equaliser, I can't recall. OK he gave away the peno but I didn't see any other Kerry defender make an attempt to stop Vaughan.
It's clear to me he's a big game player as he showed also last year v Dublin. More of the same again Saturday Peter.

Could have been earlier or later but at least some challenge was made. He knew he had to do something and did it.

Not every one seems to follow the whole provincial alternative kit color.
In Munster corks away strip is white, limerick is white.
In Connacht, Mayo is red, leirtim is yellow, roscommon is blue
In Ulster Derry is red, trone is red, cavan is white, monaghan is blue, fermanagh is white, armagh is white,
In Leinster i dont know of many team whose away strip is green,
certainly not:Dublin,Westmeath,Laois

AT one point JOD balled him out for not passing when he took the fisted point but it was pretty much 100% the right decision. Anyway what stood out for me was Crowley's reaction - nothing, shrug of the shoulders maybe. This is a rock of a player.

I completely agree that there is an attitude emerging in Kerry fans that is extremely unhealthy. I think it has its roots in the frustration experienced at the hands of Ulster teams playing football so eloquently described by Pat Spillane. As well as aggression it includes a lack of confidence. These are as alien to Kerry football as a new species arriving because of global warming. I can guess the age of posters on here by their attitudes & opinions. I think this requires a special thread during the Winter.
For now I’m going to concentrate on the game.
I don’t think its worth worrying about Keegan’s reinstatement. When you play a semi-final you expect to have good players in the opposition. Whether that’s Keegan or another good player is immaterial. Get on with it.
It’s the right decision not to start Donaghy. The high ball is always plan B. We are lucky now that we can introduce plan B to run simultaneously with plan A. This effectively gives Kerry 3 attacking options (1) an outfield player sending (right ball !!) in direct to Donaghy, (2) outfield player setting up JOD or either Geaney with accurate low ball (3) combination of both - JOD covered by 3 players quick lay off & in high to Donaghy. O’Dwyer’s teams used these 3 combinations with laser like precision. Maybe Sheehy’s influence is showing here.
I don’t believe that O’Brien will take any part. As I said before he couldn’t get off the ground to catch a ball before being replaced on Sunday. I would try to beat Mayo without him – he WILL BE needed more in the final.
John O’Keeffe said the more physically developed players would recover quicker giving Mayo an advantage. In my experience young players recover very quickly too so the advantage is no so great.
Kerry tried high (traditional type) kick-outs on Sunday to Moran & Maher which failed. All kick-outs must be to a player in space in the wing.
Even though Cillian O’Connor is a fine footballer a man to man marking job could cut his contribution to half and this would be a huge loss to Mayo.

I hope that's not the case. Kerry won 20/25 of their own kick-outs. I wouldn't say it failed.

Jigz84 - we all know that there are certain posters here that will not respect the opinion of anybody who didn't see an All Ireland final on either a block and white TV or listen to it on a crackling radio and who don't go to Mass on the morning of a match.
Its perfectly understandable that Kerry supporters feel aggrieved at the Keegan decision, especially when you look at it in conjunction with the incidents highlighted by Jo90.
For the replay of last years All Ireland final, Clare did away with the sweeper they had deployed most of the year. My gut instinct is that Horan will retain his sweeper tomorrow. We must also assume that Mayo will have a plan for Donaghy once he comes in, similar to what Dublin did last year when he came in. For Kerry, getting a fully 15 fit players on at the start, when I anticipate Mayo will come steaming at us is essential. Fellas going at 70% will not suffice here. Fitzy must also plan for Moran when he comes in and make a call on Marc. These are the key tactical decision that will go a long way in determining the outcome of the game IMO.
I doubt anybody is calling this one with any level of confidence.
But I'll stick with Kerry by 3 or 4.

I am preferring to live in cloud cuckoo land and say Kerry will win. If Mayo do win I believe they will finally have the belief to go the whole way. In a continuation of this reckless optimism I have put down my first and only bet of the year on Kerry to win by 7-9 points at 11/1

'Tis drizzling something deadly down Limerick way at the moment (Friday afternoon). 'Tis the kind of ould rain that would have you drowned before you knew it. If it houlds out like this, supporters would want to leave that bit extra early cos the rain slows up everything. Hope it clears up for tomorrow evening.
Best of luck to Eamon Fitzmaurice & his team and to all the mighty men of the green & gold.
Be sure to bring an ould pair of gloves men and a set of longish studs for to keep ye'er footing

I think I was happy enough about the penalty... well Crowley's part in it. At least he made a tackle! Could have been earlier or later but at least some challenge was made. He knew he had to do something and did it. We were all saying before the game that if someone would run straight through the middle they'd need to be shouldered out of it. Crowley did that and was unlucky that the shoulder did not make contact with the shoulder of the opponent. It was a good tackle in my opinion saving a certain goal and I don't blame him one bit for the penalty.
