Just over a week to go to the first game against Clare on the 16th April, any news on the squad and how will the Hogan cup final disrupt the Kerry team its been played on the 12th. Will the dingle and gaeltacht lads who will be the backbone of this minor team be in a fit state to play against Clare.

I heard he hadn't recovered in sufficient time from breaking his elbow last year

Anyone know what the story is with Cian O Connor (Desmonds)?

Didn't realise Wharton was in there either, not sure if he is myself. Think Tomas O Se has gone down the Irish dancing route also. Cian O Connor was injured and was on a rehab/physio program with Jackos son over in Killarney, should be nearing return soon if not already I'd imagine.

Seems strange that they put the Hogan Cup Final just 4 days before the Kerry minors play seen as a few are involved with both, not ideal for preparations. Still would see Kerry getting through to a Munster Final and All Ireland 1/4 final as they should overcome Clare and Tipperary or has anyone heard that either of these counties are particularly strong this year?

Serious Dingle representation - when did Dingle last have 5 players on a Kerry team?!
All merited by the way.
Matthew Flaherty at wing forward in an interesting placement
A long time since Kilgarvan had lads with the Kerry minor footballers! Them lads should be with the hurlers too though. They d be a big boost to the hurling team.

Seven it total from West Kerry. Reminds me of the days of the O'Sé brothers, Aodán MacGearailt, Dara O'Cinneide, Tommy Griffin and Diarmuid Murphy all in around the set-up. That wasn't a bad Kerry team.

That wasn't a bad Kerry team. Or the 2009 minor team which had more than that from south Kerry against Tipp a few days after CNS won the Hogan Cup I think. The run of PSCD wouldn't have helped the preparation for this game so lets hope they wont slip up. If I remember correctly Clare were close enough up to the 50th minute or so last year in Tralee.

Did well. I'd say Bambo did his cruciate ligaments though, a nasty landing after a catch and his knee hyperextended. Looked nasty, happened after about 5 mins and that was his game done. Any fella that says Kerry Football is gone should have seen Mark O Connor again tonight or Spillane inside full forward. Mark caught about 5-6 clean balls at midfield, and Spillane kicked 6 points I'd say. Kicking off both left and right and caught a massive ball inside for a great point. Kiely from Crokes was also impressive kicking 2-2 or 2-3, he looked a right threat in front of goals. Matthew Flatherty kicked 2/3 points aswell so his move to half forward seems to have worked. Clare were poor in front of goals and some of their kicking was woeful. One worrying thing for Kerry was the amount of goal chances that Clare created. Shane Ryan was unbelievable in goals once again making 3 great saves and was saved by the post after a couple of mins into the game. All in all a good team performance and onto Tipp in the next round who fell over the line against the Deise.

All in all a good team performance and onto Tipp in the next round who fell over the line against the Deise. Hopefully, not as bad an injury to Bambury as it looked. While on the night, his loss wasn't felt in terms of winning the match, much more serious challenges lie ahead. While I'd very much agree with your summary above, I would have concerns as always with the lack of physicality in the team. I'm not talking about pumped up muscle etc but the ability to hold the ball when 'roughed up' in a tackle. Hard to know on the night but we did lose the ball quite easily on more than a few occasions and also as you pointed out, we yielded up a lot of goal chances which thankfully, Shane Ryan was equal to. Its an opening game and probably unfair to be too critical but if we want to go all the way in this competition, we will need to tighten up massively in defence and find one or two players that can physically impose themselves on the game when needed. Having said all that, it was the best performance by a Kerry minor team in an opening Munster Championship game in a good few years in my opinion so take from that what you want.....

Kerry got their campaign off to a good start at Cusack Park, Ennis as they cruised to a comfortable victory over Clare.
A 0-8 to 0-3 lead at the break was no more than Kerry deserved and with the wind at their backs in the second half, they forged further ahead.
With Barry O'Sullivan and Mark O'Connor outstanding in the middle, Jack O'Connor's youngsters built on this dominance to carve out the win.
Clare opened the scoring in the sixth minute when wing-forward Keelan Sexton landed a free-kick from 50 metres.
Kerry's Jordan Kiely levelled matters with a fisted effort. The sides were tied at 0-3 apiece by the 12th, but five unanswered Kerry points before the break gave them the platform.
Kiely grabbed Kerry's first goal eight minutes after the restart when he was fed by substitute Stephen O'Sullivan and the second goal arrived in the 49th minute. Killian Spillane – from the famous Templenoe family – also tortured Clare, while Kiely can be happy with his 2-3 personal tally.
Scorers – Kerry: J Kiely 2-3, K Spillane 0-6, M Flaherty 0-3, M Burns 0-2, S O'Sullivan, I Parker 0-1 each. Clare: K Sexton 0-2fs, E Courtney 0-2, C Finucane, C Pyne, L Madigan 0-1 each.
Kerry – S Ryan (capt); J Morgan, B Begley, T O'Sullivan; J Foley, A Barry, B Sugrue; B O'Sullivan, M O'Connor; M Flaherty, B Rayle, M Burns; J Kelly, K Spillane, C Bambury. Subs: S O'Sullivan for Bambury (inj, 4), C Coffey for Foley (26), L Kearney for Rayle (52), T Ó Sé for B O'Sullivan (52), I Parker for Flaherty (58), D Roche for Morgan (58).
Clare – K Normoyle; B Cahill (capt), P Lillis, J Woods; C Ó hAiniféin, C Pyne, C O'Dea; N McCarthy, E Hanrahan; K Sexton, E Courtney, A Rudd; C Finucane, M Duffy, A Davidson. Subs: C Downes for Cahill (BC, 20), L Tierney for Rudd (h-t), L Madigan for Duffy (38), M Byrne for Hanrahan (45), L Howard for Pyne (55).
REF –S Lonergan (Tipperary)

I agree Joxer in terms of physicality but for once I think we have a fine big strong midfield duo and that's massive at minor I think. You have Cian O Connor to come back into the fold also. There was one or two very loose in the back alright which gave Clare a chance in the game but they didn't have the class to take the chances and Shane Ryan equal to the goal chances. With Cormac Coffey returning to fitness this will strengthen the back line even more. Roll on Tipp and here's hoping Bamburys injury isnt too bad.

Cathal Bambury did not do any damage to his crucite. He's in a cast and told me about 2 months out. Good chance his next game for KY minors will be in a Munster final.
