I'm surprised by the result. I'm not a fan of this minor team at all, but they deserve credit for the win, although I would expect more from Roscommon.
It must be said though, the system for the minor championship is laughable. Tipperary have beaten us twice, yet we have advanced further. Any team that loses two games in the Championship should be gone, end of story.

No need for beaten provincial finalists to be allowed go any further, they'll have had 2 or games which is a good amount of experience; get back to getting ready for collage and stop holding up club games!!! That being said great job by the minors getting to an AI semi final. And to think so many here were ready to burst every O Neill's in Kerry and point our young footballers towards the nearest gym !!! Football can still be won by playing football and concentrating on the skills.

Fair play to the Kerry minor team & management, they stuck to their task very well today and at last had that little bit of luck needed to get them over the line. Roscommon will look back and wonder how they lost this game. A shot off the crossbar and a missed penalty in the first half, loads of possession early in the second half when they had Kerry pinned back inside their own 45 for an eternity. They couldn't take advantage of their superiority and Kerry weathered the storm well. Once we went 3 up I thought we would hold out. Then Niall Sheehy got sent off which, in my opinion, was very harsh. He passed the ball and went to move on for a return. The Roscommon no4 wrestled him to the ground and Niall tried to free himself. The result? A second yellow for Niall. Crazy stuff. When we get the ball into the forwards, we can do some damage. Our defence was cut open time and time again which will be a major worry against a very powerful Dublin outfit.

Congrats to the minors on reaching the AI s/final, some great work going on at this level despite all the doom and gloom merchants. Dissapointing that so many of the Kerry supporters who did'nt bother to show up to support the team. Hopefully this group can continue on their upward curve and give a very good account of themselves against the Dubs.

When the Roscommon minors wake up this morning it will be very difficult to convince them that they are out of the championship. How they contrived to lose this match yesterday will remain a mystery for a long time. In the first ten minutes or so they struck the crossbar, missed a penalty and had another effort miraculously taken off the goal line. After that , they dominated possession, more or less, but kicked a string of wides, culminating in a last minute effort which would have earned them extra time.
Conversely, the Kerry boys will take some persuading that their championship wish is still alive. I have seen most of their games and I find it difficult to find a word to describe them. Certainly, great does not spring to mind. Stubborn, obstinate, maybe the words that are eluding me. Either way, they are still breathing. One fears that they could be devoured some day but then minors are mercurial. Witness Tipperary.
Ronan Murphy, who was competent yesterday, should be fitter the next day after his recent injury. Also, Eana O'Conchuir will presumably be back.
As I said , Roscommon were the better team and were terribly unlucky to lose but I must comment on the referee who made two extraordinary decisions. In the first half, a Kerry player was bending down to pick up the bar of soap, it was played in a downpour, in front of his goals and was clearly pushed in the back. The referee penalised him for handling the ball on the ground. A present for Roscommon. A facsimile of John Bannon's decision against Eamon Fitzmaurice in the drawn Armagh 2002 game. The other decision is unforgivable but in fairness to the referee perhaps the linesman, with whom he did consult, should be the one castigated for this abomination. Niall Sheehy laid off a ball and ran on to collect the return but was rugby tackled to the ground, resulting in a wrestling match with his antagonist. Niall was given a yellow card which resulted in a red as he already had got another yellow.
Before ending, I must comment on the aforementioned Niall. I had heard great things about Niall before this campaign started. However, I was hugely disappointed with the jittery figure I saw the first night in Tralee against Tipperary. However, Mickey Ned, clearly aware of his merit, persevered and now Niall has become a transformed footballer. It is surely a case of "mol on oige agus tiochfaidh se".

The same problems have shown up in every game- runners from deep. Run at this Kerry backline/midfield and there is a goal on.
Same strength as always-forwards waste very little ball and can live off scraps.
One part worried me greatly- Ros boxed us into a corner on the Hogan stand side for about 5 mins in the second half- noone had the smarts to move wide and make the pitch bigger (methaphorically). The selectors should be able to see this, but they dont

How were are still in this championship I dont know. But fair play to them.
On a day when score a difficult to come by, we have the forwards who will take the chances when they get them.

Kerrys backs are horrible . If they don't make changes Dublin will destroy them . Ok at Midifeld . Forwadrs are good Niall Sheehy , Conor Keane , Jack Savage , Cilian Fitzgerald are all good forwards if they get enough ball but the backs will let them down ther are poor . Gavin Curran is a good goalkeeper .

However there has been huge improvements made so far so who knows.

No further comment jigsawpuzzle, that's a poor comment. On the Kerry v Donegal thread you were lamenting the neglect of young talent. Where do you think young talent comes from - a catalogue ?

We might not win the all Ireland but the experience of playing in Croke Park will be a massive boost to a lot of these young players; funnily enough, Kerry have beaten both Dublin and Mayo in challenge games so far this year.
