Great call on selection mandad. That's a good Kerry team. Sean McCarthy (Legion) was full back for the Sem and did well. Gary O'Leary is flying in training by all accounts but Mangan is some option on the bench. I've never seen Padraig Boyle play but by all accounts he is the best of the brothers - and I've seen all his brothers play! Cribben is probably the standout minor in the country at the moment but Kerry played Kildare in a challenge and I wouldn't fear them. Dublin have great skill but lack physicality (I may have just invented a word there! "physical-ness"). I'd keep a close weather eye up north. Rumour has it that Connaught are weaker than usual. As my mam always says "rumour never milked no cows"

Himself, word is that Cribben is going Down Under to play Aussie Rules. Don't have to worry about Dublin, they are out now. Btw 'physicality' is a word, as is "physicalness"! And I'd say you are right about the North.

Damn - I would love to invent a word. Apparently "embiggens" is already taken by the simpsons. I think Cribben turned down an Aussie Rules contract, but he may have just delayed it. Certainly well worth one!

Not being in the Kingdom, it is great to get background on who is who on the Minor panel.
Is James Hickson at No. 7 related to the Eamonn Hickson who I saw on the Junior Team against Cork??
I really liked what I saw that day

No.7 would be Jason Hickson, and yes they're related. They're brothers. And Eamonn was very impressive on that day!

Very strong panel of players this year. Excellent trainer and man-manager in Pat O'Driscoll. If these youngsters can remain grounded, they will have every opportunity of bringing the All-Ireland Minor Title to Kerry.

No fears of them remaining grounded. Pa Kilkenny is right up there in the Marc O Se mould. Last year's full back Philip Galvin should be knocking on the door in a few years time as well. Nice bunch of lads and a great manager, but we are physically light. I wouldn't be talking about any All Ireland as yet. Very surprised at the Cork team. Cahalane back to full back? The same forward sextet? Certainly not what I was expecting

Finbarr McCarthy's Cork perspective on the minor match from "The Cork Independent" .... Minor Footballers in Munster Final Written by Finbarr McCarthy Thursday, 01 July 2010 ESB Munster Minor Football Final Cork v Kerry Sunday Fitzgerald Stadium @ 11.45am The timing of this final does not reflect greatly on the Munster Council to, that the best footballers at Minor level should have to play at this time spoils for them what should be the highlight of their young careers. Cork have certainly made life difficult for themselves so far with narrow wins over Clare and Tipperary, it is to their credit that both of these wins were away from home and twice they displayed tremendous resilience to carve out wins. Kerry are a fast lively team and with colleges from the Kingdom dominating the Corn Ui Mhuiri, the home side will start as favourites. Damien Somers, Mark Reen, Liam O'Grady and Eanna O'Connor are important players for the reigning champions and they will not lack confidence especially at home. Cork are well aware of the need to improve on their previous outings, particularly in defence, and they can expect Damien Cahalane, Jamie Burns and Tomas Clancy to provide the leadership required in this area. Brian Hurley, Shane Duggan and Kevin Hallissey are good forwards who have the capacity to trouble the Kerry defence but a better scoring return will be required. Defeat on Sunday will not end their season a win would kick start their campaign for an All-Ireland title, they might just get there, but only if they perform for the full 60 minutes anything less and Kerry will win. www.corkindependent.com/sport/sport/minor-footballers-in-munster-final/

Blast it anyway. Very dissapointing loss. Anyone but Cork and the trouble is, we were luck not to get hammered. They had a crazy amount of wides against the wind in the first half.
Just shows you the value of a professional trainer and fitness guru. I heard from a reliable source that this Cork minor team has spent the winter on a special diet and their weight lifting programme would do justice to olympic oarsmen.
No porrige for these lads. Pasta and black tuluga three times a day and Kilworth Camp at the weekend. Serious outfit methinks.

Listening on the radio, it did appear that Kerry were lucky that cork did not do better with their chances in the first half. It appears that Kerry have a difficult route now, as I think they are due to play the Ulster Champions (tyrone or Armagh)on the august bank holiday weekend. The winnere of this match will play the winner of The connacht champions versus Leinster runner up. Big surprise in Leinster this weekend with Longford getting to the final after beating kildare however I had heard that they fancied their chances. They now paly Offaly in the leinster final.

I'd echo KY50s comments above...this team haven't gone away yet, you know. A little less blackguarding from the referee and we'd have had a draw. Anyway, whoever it is we meet, with one or two players to comeback in (and Pa Kilkenny was a huge loss so early in the game), I'd fancy our chances of going a bit further.

The gale force win destroyed the game yesterday.
Pa Kilkenny was a massive loss for Kerry. He was deployed on Hurley (no 15 for Cork) and unfortunately McNamara wasnt able for him. The finish for the goal by the Cork player was as good as you'll see however.
Midfield was totally out of it until Walsh went midfield. Kerry couldnt get Gavin O Grady into the game and this had a big bearing on the result.
Both teams still go into the same stage of the all ireland series as was commented on by the Cork captain in his speech. I think they'll learn from it and can at least get past the next round.
