I know what you mean Vet Kinda of be fancing Listowel but with the Duffers starting to motor you would have to be thinking jez they could pull it off Fair sprinkling of young talent in and around kerry minor and under 20 squads in recent years - Adam Segal, Evan Boyle, Kevin Goulding, Luke Rochford Padraig Boyle still carries a threat up front and if Jack Goulding can get home from London he will be some boost I love the way the Duffers can switch over from one code to the other Their u21 hurlers have a huge match next weekend as well against St Brendans You rarely see a Ballyduff team hammered the way Duagh were. The Duffers always produce players who are tough as nails from playing the hurling so they will give Listowel plenty of it until the final whistle and have young legs with plenty of football. But you’d have to fancy Listowel if they play the same brand of football they played v Duagh. It showed be a good match if the weather holds up. Ballyduff were hammered in the last two finals they were in.

Castleisland 2-10 Moyvane 0-6. HT 0-4. 0-3
A gutsy, young Moyvane team made Castleisland look very ordinary in the first half but were overwhelmed in the second half . Scores were at a premium in that opening half with Moyvane getting all their points from frees while three of Castleisland’s total came from play courtesy of Michael Walsh , clearly wide, Luka Brosnan and Brian Leonard. However, as a harbinger of what was to come Castleisland frequently created an extra man in front of goal only to be denied by the excellent Brendan Galvin in goal for Moyvane.
In the second half, Castleisland proceeded to dominate , propelled by the physical power of a lot of their players , notably Adam Donoghue, who tormented Moyvane with his strong running. It was his running that repeatedly created an extra man which would ultimately undo Moyvane No surprise that they goaled, via the aforementioned Adam. When that happened , one’s thoughts turned to home. It was Adam who also got Castleisland’s second goal. They had stars in Ruairi Burke, Maurice Hickey, a dominant figure all through , Luka Brosnan and of course Adam Donoghue.
Moyvane did not start Martin Stack, mystifying. He came on in the second half and kicked two magnificent points and was centimeters away from a magnificent third. Young , plucky corner forwards, Jerry Brosnan and Jamie Moloney, would have benefited from his class and guile in the first half when Moyvane were competing well. Martin was the only Moyvane player to score from play.
On the basis of their first half performance , one would not give tuppence for Castleisland’s chances in the final. Improved significantly on the the restart but of course , as is often the case. the outcome of the final against Listowel/Ballyduff could be determined by their attitude.

Listowel 1-13 Ballyduff 0-11 HT 1-8. 0-4.
A forgettable game in Moyvane on a miserable , dank November afternoon. No shortage of politicians in the area looking for votes but there was a shortage of football highlights.
Once Jo Jo Grimes goaled at the end of a great Listowel movement in the first half to complement an earlier flurry of points one sensed that the deal was sealed. It was Ballyduff who needed that goal but unfortunately they rarely looked like getting one at any stage in the game. Indeed ,it is a while since I have seen a poorer Ballyduff side . As always, , they didn’t lack heart but a lot of their players were substandard.
Playing with the wind in the second half , Ballyduff did come a little more into the game but , as in the first half , they were depending on the kindness of the referee for some soft frees. Speaking of the referee, I felt he was poor and , in spite of dishing out yellow cards right , left and centre , one got the impression that the game could have boiled over at any stage. Thankfully , in spite of a melee or two , the game didn’t deteriorate into an unholy brawl. As the second half advanced, Ballyduff was reduced to kicking in skyscrapers, hoping for a lucky break. Oh , how they missed that man of the hundred battles, Mikey Boyle. There was a boyo who could snatch a goal or two. In that respect, I was disappointed with Ballyduff’s full forward line of Luke Rockford, Padraig Boyle and Kevin Goulding. In fairness to Padraig, he kicked two points but overall he had to play second fiddle to former Kerry minor, Niall Collins, Niall is a fine footballer. Evan Boyle kicked five or six frees but ,like the full forward trio , I was expecting more from him.
In summary, Listowel were comfortable winners. There are times when they make life hard for themselves, over elaborating, looking for the perfect score etc. However, they are well balanced , with a lot of very good footballers. You would think that they should be capable winning the final but Castleisland on a good day could stage an ambush.

Listowel 1-13 Ballyduff 0-11 FT Listowel 1-8 Ballyduff 0-4 HT
The most notable feature of this game was a shockingly bad and one-sided performance by the referee. While Emmets were always in control here, they had to carry the day in spite of the officials. Now, I appreciate that's it's a tough job and we should be wary of criticising amateur sportsmen but this was truly awful. And if you must be awful, at least try to be evenly so. No such luck today and the the Listowel support grew more and more incensed as the game progressed. Fair to say the officiating ruined what promised to be a decent game today. Rant over.
The decisive football moment was a Joe Grimes goal midway through the first half that put Emmets five up. They profited when moving the ball quickly and picked some nice scores. The Duffers were largely restricted to deadball scores from phantom frees. Listowel led by seven at the break. The second half was stop-start and frustrating, thanks in no small part to the men in black. But enough of that. Job done, Desmonds await. Great crowd out and the weather held up for the most part so how bad.

Thinking about venturing North for this, although I may cheat and watch on Clubber if it is to be streamed Others better placed may confirm but from what I've been told before, NK final will never be streamed. And why so because? Unfair to emigrants, the same ones who had Ballydonoghue celebrate the opening of Dowling Park with the entire debt already cleared! Bad enough to deprive them of not seeing it free, worse still to deprive them altogether. Some really bad decisions being made in the community this past while, and that's not someone having a moan for the sake of it. I read somewhere that Irish rugby might be spoilt - are we seeing the same here? What about the man who lined the field in January and now lives alone and can't make matches - bad enough he has to pay to watch what he helped create and wouldn't hear of money, now he can't even pay to see! Jazus but rural Ireland is shooting itself in the foot here. Where will it all end up? What made it all the worse for NK is that we had our own Robert O Muircheartaigh, bitters sweet, bitter sweet bitter! The powers that be read the forum so over to them - did someone say there is an election coming up. Ah sure they'll tell us they don't run the GAA, they won't even lie to us! God be with the good old NK final days in Bally' with the old stock - as good as any Munster Final day! The late Alan Kennelly consoled of '82 that it would be worse if Tarbert bate Bally' in the NK final, still you'd have the Crusher doing his bit of Kung Fu to lighten the aftermath!

Typical short term view from NK bord. God forbid they might miss out on a few people going.

Listowel 1-11. Castleisland 0-8. HT 0-8 0-3
Not the most exciting game, with the result never in doubt. Listowel started well and while Castleisland had more of the ball in the second half their attack was much too blunt. Another factor in Castleisland’s demise was that some of their more renowned players like Adam Donoghue and Brian Leonard made minimal impact or perhaps , more accurately, were not allowed to make a telling contribution. In that opening half , Listowel were slicker and more resourceful with Eddie Healy opening their scoring . As always , Eddie was prominent but tended to be a little profligate. Profligate or not , he was the instigator of the only goal of the game. He latched on to the ball, made twenty five or thirty yards , put it on a plate for the clever Sean Keane ,who had got inside his man , and Sean cracked it home. Even at that early stage , one felt that scintillating move would be decisive . If was..
As stated , Castleisland had more of the play in the second half but their forwards were not creative enough. At times Tomas Hickey threatened but Tomas ain’t as lively and inventive as of yore. Indeed three points of Castleisland’s tally came from wing backs Luka Brosnan and Maurice Hickey, two of their better players. That is an indication of the powder puff nature of the Castleisland attack. Castleisland had no forward of the class of Listowel’s forty yards man, Sean Keane. Sean , who scored 1-3 from play, great scoring on a heavy sod, was on a different level to all other forwards on view.
There is no doubting the merit of this championship win by Listowel. Their odyssey to Croke Park last season has blended them into a formidable unit and , if the appetite remains , it is difficult to see them being denied two in a row.

Listowel 1-11 Desmond’s 0-08
As the score line suggests, the six point win probably a true reflection, Listowel were always comfortable enough bar a ten minute spell early in the second half only, Desmond’s didn’t convert any upper hand at this juncture on the scoreboard with wides from both play and placed balls. They had a great goal chance early in the second half when the score was 1-05 to 0-03 but for the Castleisland men and neutral fans the chance passed.
By in all it was poor fair, with the result never really in doubt. Listowel centre forward Sean Keane was outstanding and could do no wrong, it was easy to to see why Eddie Healy has been brought in to the extended senior panel, even though still U20 next year.
Credit due to the NK Board, I can be critical at time, but fairs fair, ample parking for patrons, all within a short distance from pitch, well stewarded, and enough at the gate to keep the flow going. Another thing, the match day programme was complimentary. It would have been very easy to get another two euro for the match day teams sheet, however there was a plentiful supply and included in the match day fee.
Congratulations, Listowel, undisputed winners, they were the best in NK by a good bit and creeping to touching distance to most NK winners.
Well done too to Moyvane, pitch, venue and parking.

Don't suppose there's any chance of getting the attendance from the NK board, but it looked like a fine crowd again today. Parking spaces were filling up fast an hour before throw-in and a packed stand looked forward to a rousing occasion. Sadly, the game itself never really lived up to that. Though lively enough at the start and the finish, it was flat for long periods in between. In truth, Emmets were always in control here, leading for virtually the entire game, Desmonds were rather negative for the first half but came out of their shell in the third quarter to make a fight of it, without ever really having the quality to break Listowel down.
Sensibly refereed, as always, by Brendan Griffin.
Listowel are now one behind Moyvane in the honours list. Ger McCarthy, I understand, now heads the roll of individual NK medal winners.

Great performance, I suppose the worry from a Listowel point of view would be complacency or underestimation of Castleisland who certainly are not a team of mugs. Perhaps both teams would have been suited to a dry sod under foot as both teams contain a number of players who are athletic and dynamic and perhaps this fed into the more slower paced game that played out yesterday. I suspect Castleisland would have preferred to have it played in Brosna or even Listowel where the pitches would have suited a more galloping team that they are.
Look to be fair Listowel were just better drilled and had more trump cards overall. They seemed to get their match ups spot on as well and stuff in reserve on the bench when needed.
Hard luck for Castleisland a proud club, unlike two years ago when they didn't turn up at all I felt they turned up yesterday but just met a better team.
Listowel needed this also , to finish a rather up and down year punctuated with injuries to a number of players early and in the middle of the season which cost them League & Championship games and performances. Early season was certainly a hangover from last years All Ireland attempt and they blew hot and cold until the last couple of weeks when they really got everyone back and firing on all cylinders.
A huge amount of credit needs to go Enda Murphy, Billy Doyle, John Heaphy and Marc O'Se, they seeem to have developed a team that is player driven, a young team but a hungry team. From being around the place there wasn't any sniping or giving out from supporters / players etc and certainly the volume of Listowel Supporters at games which understandably grew during there All Ireland tilt last year has been retained. There is a real sense of pride in this group of players, a young likeable and fairly driven bunch coupled with a figure head and one of the greatest to ever don the Black & Amber in Ger McCarthy. A lot to like how they are going about their business.
A lot of work has been done underage underage over the last 10/15 years from the Bomber O'Connor to Brian Scanlan et al - underage numbers are good but the quality of players skill wise and athletically that are coming through is of a good standard also.
