Gough has harboured a grudge v Kerry since 2016. The Kerry fans rightly booed his horrid performance and he thought the Kerry fans are homophobic. He thought he had a good game where frontal charges are fine and sometimes wides are 45s. He liked comments on social media comparing Kerry as a cow heading for an abbatoir when they take on the Dublin team in the 2019 final...and then got the final gig. He is known to like Up the Dubs comments on social media too since before the 2016 semi-final. As president of Dublin's Cumann na mBunscol he posted out tickets to Dubs for the 2019 final that he reffed. Anytime a pundit makes a comment about Gough on the Sunday Game, David contacts the head of RTÉ Sport to complain. Id heard from a source his hatred of Clifford is that Gough thought he'd be the centre of the Super Valu ads and didn't like David getting the limelight. It's childish stuff from the man. As an aside for a vain man, it was funny to see him look like David Brent with the potbelly. You know it annoyed him the comments made. We now know how he failed the fitness test. Did he pass it since? Are these all known proven facts, or just heresay??? I'm no great fan of Gough, but some of the stuff being spouted about him, and indeed any referee who has been in charge of matches that we hsve lost, are growing increasingly harsh and unfair. If a lot of the stuff being said about referees was said to their faces, there would be cases for slander taken. Looking to blame 1 man for a loss is grasping at straws. A referee makes mistakes, just like everyone in every walk of life. To say that these mistakes are a conspiracy against Kerry is ridiculous. That's the tweet. Unfortunately likes are gone from Twitter. x.com/EwanMacKenna/status/1160522172982599680?t=MCKb38ZG8GOWQq8cGY2l3w&s=19However I mentioned it last year at the bottom of the following thread. I stood over it and asked people to prove me wrong. kerrygaa.proboards.com/thread/9360/kerry-derry-ireland-semifinal-croke?page=3My source on the Super Valu is not in Fossa. It's closer to the Spire and a mutual friend of Mr Gough. Same mutual who told me of the social media activity. www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/2020/0211/1114677-gough-explains-why-he-felt-obliged-to-call-out-orourke/He has form contacting the head of RTÉ Sport. I can hardly rob Gough's phone to show the others. I can't prove anything now as it is from trusted friends and I'm not throwing them under the bus. Last year, Gough feasted on public media for the Geaney penalty v Cork in the media. He claimed he knew the rule, check the OTB interview. Later Sean Powter was on the Examiner podcast (the one before the 2023 final) who confirmed that it was Geaney who told Gough the rule.

Just rewatched the match now..Well the first half yet. Gough gave Armagh 3 non frees.. And he seemed to be telling David not to encroach for the 14yd free from the wing. It's the first time I've ever seen a ref do this. Any thoughts. I find him infuriating, bizarre calls out of nowhere from 100 yards away. Not one free like it given in the Galway Donegal game just there. I thought there was very good and fair refereeing in Galway v Donegal match

Agree. When was the last time DC scored ? If Shane puts in winning Sam performance he will edge DC and that hopefully will spur DC on in future Shane is class. He can kick from ground with both feet like Maurice F but he inconsistent and David C a better all round player.

First time poster, I’m sure a lot of what I say has already been said but feel like I need to write it down myself. I’ve been to about 90% of games this year and I’ve been quietly confident all year. Reason being I felt like we’d finally got to a point where we weren’t relying on David seanie and paidi for scores anymore, all 3 mentioned have been below par all year I’ve been waiting for them to catch fire thinking it was going to happen at the right time unfortunately they did not. Yesterday I knew we were going to be outnumbered in support but by god I wasn’t expecting to be outnumbered by that much, it was actually embarsssing, yet you’d have a scramble for tickets if we got to the final. Very frustrating. On the game, I was relaxed up until the goal, first half it had a feeling like Gough was keeping Armagh in it handing out handy frees. The goal was the sucker punch and the Armagh roar got going. I know Shane Ryan had a couple of mistakes that cost us but ultimately the losing of the game was our goal chance before this was the losing of it for me if it had gone in we were home and dry. Its all small margins and unfortunately we’ve come out on the wrong side, one frustrating aspect I found was seeing Jason foley or other backs in our full forward line. This ultimately cost them in the end as Jason was cramping. I can’t see the postive in having him and tadgh up so high when they rarely score. Our fitness levels don’t seem up to it and as has been mentioned has cost us when the going gets tough this year and in other years previous. Jack went back to how we played against Derry, basically trying to play as our opposition play. This worked against a Derry side that are struggling, i think it was a huge mistake doing the same against Armagh, we should play to our own strengths and not mirror our oppositions play. Slow play doesn’t suit us we need to move the ball faster but then again we’ve no one up to kick it to!! Overall a very disappointing season that frustrated me as I had high hopes all year waiting for us to peak, but unfortunately that peak never came. Onto next year and uncovering some new talent, I think there is some good days ahead but new talent will have to be found and make impacts in the league next year. First of all they’ll have to be given the chance which I’m not too confident of. Onwards and upwards!

Thanks for clarifying that. It's all hearsay so. He said, she said, a trusted friend said........ And in my opinion, Gough was right to call Colm O'Rourke out for the language that he used on tv that day. I explained the tweet. I had brought that forward last year when likes were available for anyone to view. That is 100% true. If it wasn't it was very easy to prove me wrong at the time. I used that O'Rourke to show that he goes direct to the Head of RTÉ Sport and not to O'Rourke like a sane person would. I added that as proof he speaks to RTÉ direct and not to the pundits. I wasn't condoning Colm's comments and he was right to stand against it but he could have asked Colm privately to make a public apology for the language. No no do not pass go, straight to RTÉ Believe what you want. Anyone with OTB subscription and Examimer can check OTB interview the days after the Cork group game last year and the Seán Powter Irish Examiner podcast the week into the 2023 final. Check for yourselves. The lad took credit for Geaney knowing the rules.

Looking at it Armagh we're brave fair play to them but cavanagh arguing with O'Se earlier on nonsense ose was correct Kerry had lost of chances to win and missed two clear goals and that turned the tide to Armagh. Clinical but Kerry blew it as well i thought

Observations from The Sun Night Game -
Was that Rian O’Neill howler point of the blueprint he put over vs us in Killarney?
Peter The Great reckons Gough unleashed the game to become the spectacle it was - in fairness he had it almost strangled.
KD is wearing the panse? In any event congrats to him – to put it mildly, he doesn’t owe us anything and he is a hero of the GAA spirit and all that is good about it - now what do you think of that, etc? One can't ignore TO'6's somewhat outspoken view re our year but firstly I can't see KD jumping ship and secondly I think if JO'C isn't perfect then he only one of the 90%s we have, and 5 of them has you at 50% if you see my earlier stat comment. I often wonder if we are too proud a GAA county and I include myself in that, 'the edge of the cliff might be kerbed of pride' - another 90% factor? Ah we are a great GAA people - we just lost and maybe to a team that will leave a serious mark in GAA history, maybe a few, sure we left a few ourselves and we haven't gone away either you know?
This crack of palming and fisting goals - Éamonn clarified that PM maintaining contact if momentary made his legal vs Punching. Interesting to see if the rules body he sits on will look at that and in him we trust - would Éamonn be interested in YKW - You Know What?
For all the talent they have got, I tell you, they work their socks off. They’ve got desire, they’ve got pride - Roy Keane Spain's Euro Final Result; then again what does he know about pride!

DC had no confidence in his long range shooting this year. The final last year seems to have effected him and this continued throughout the league. At this end of the championship there isn't much time to get your shot off and DC usually thrived in that scenario. We don't have too many good kickers on the team. Something we always prided ourselves on. Here is my tuppence worth on David Clifford and before posters come back and slate me,read what I have to say first.David was a the greatest minor ever imo and a top scorer and one of the finest footballers ive seen and ive been lucky to see many.He scored regularly on his debut year in 2018 but since then while scoring his ratio is actually poor.I flagged this a few years ago.He reminded me of the saying "he scores great scores but is not a great scorer".Now what I mean is David has a habit of taking on hail Mary shots and while he has the talent to score them ,many are wasted opportunities. He scored two unbelievable scores I can think of off hand (one in a league game v Tyrone in Omagh and one v Cork in that nightmare in 2020 covid year)but manys the time they are missed making his score ratio poor compared to other scoring forwards. One of his strongest assest though was even when he missed it did nt affect him trying it again. However I ask anyone to watch that 2020 game again and see how many easy ones David missed that night and remember it was a draw.I have followed David since before minor as id seen him play with The "Sem" and as a senior I even saw him with Fossa a few times as my kids wanted to see him in club level up close. One thing ive noticed is before games (unlike Gooch Maurice or Bryan Sheehan Dara Cinneide etc) is that when he is practicing shooting its nearly always from distance and difficult angles thus neglecting the bread and butter ones.I have hardly ever seen David beaten for a fifty fifty ball and his has massive strength so he should be taking on players more too but bring his shooting to nearing scoring zone.I do believe his confidence is dented a little and our style at mo certainly does nt suit him but in a way with many outside Kerry now thinking he overrated it might do him the world of good and next year he might light up the football world again. However I do feel he needs a little help from someone like Gooch or Maurice to encourage to do the simple things too .Let David be David but everything does nt have to be spectacular and also let him use his fielding and strength.Imo he is the second most talented footballer in the country (after Shane Walsh who is another enigma)but David is a better all round player than Shane.Another thing is im not sure I agree with David being whisked off the pitch after games by backroom lads like he is a rock star.Maybe thats not helping David either and messing with his head. That was fine after his Mom passed but not now.Anyway like us all David is human and Im looking forward to seeing him in the league next year with morw freedom and hopefully a Gooch in the background. I agree to with you on David’s form. If you can give me 5 bullet points on how you think Shane Walsh is more talented than David, I would be really interested in seeing them. (It’s a huge statement). Do not mention Kilmacud Crokes, if David joined Kilmacud in the morning they would win the next Dublin 5 in a row senior championships. Also, Shane Walsh is 31, David is 25. I am not knocking you personally btw.

It's been a long time since I posted, and am a disappointed supporter myself this evening. The difference between our semi final loss and Kerry's is fairly obvious. We were never in a position to put the game to bed but Kerry had a massive chance with their 2nd goal chance in the 2nd half. They could have counter attacked at their leisure thereafter (with a 7 point cushion). I didn't anticipate how well Armagh's conditioning would be yesterday, but it was 100% the tipping factor in the result thereafter. Basically, I agree with Sean Oshea's match assessment yesterday. The way forward for Kerry football is not major surgery, but there has to be an increase in concentration on behalf of players, namely to score those chances rather than let them slip away. I'm not sure how you get this message through to the players, other than reminding them of the consequences when the ball breaks down the pitch and turns a +3 into a -1 differential

Re the point about Jason and other backs right up in the forward line - apparently they are supposed to get into the top of the pith as a "decoy" and then get out to allow space for our forwards (source my dad talking to a players dad) However it looks like they don't get out and are just taking space where our forwards should be. Also lead to players running out of gas and cramping, same for our forwards coming all the way back into out full back line - we don't want DC or SoS back that far. I'm looking forward to the rule having to keep 3 players within the 65 as it will keep our forwards where they should be (near the goal) and our backs back.

Was at game and felt Gough's handing of 3 frees to Armagh in first half was ridiculous...We were miles better than them in that period...frees kept them in it. Game got tight after 50 minutes...but we forget how poor Armagh were in the first half and how the ref helped keep them in it. It's too much about David Gough when he's reffing. The slight tug of a forwards jersey off the ball being a tap over free? A joke! If it was given by a ref in any other game at any other level any proper GAA person would throw their eyes to heaven at it.. That said we gifted them a goal and gave them a way back. Galway should be too good for them..

Yerra it’s unfair to blame the ref for the loss. Kerry lost to a better team . Change of some sort is needed . I don’t know what kind of change but it’s needed. Great win by Armagh.. congrats Ardmhaca, our resident Orchard County poster

And the latest from Armagh is that, well, the football that was coming home just came home, and then it didn't, but then again it might yet - oh them Orange Bs, and in future they will celebrate the victory of King Kieran over his Kingdom and of course the defeat of their old enemy and where they got someone else on the job - so they have to now decide will they commemorate The Thirteenth or The Fourteenth, 1314 instead of 1690?
Careful here, Joyce and John O'Mahony RIP have already booked 1-14 - fact!
AI Final score 12, 13, 1-14 ..... remember where you read it first Mr Power!

Considering there are probably numerous on here who did not attend the game, it is worth reiterating the inference from Blacksheep and the direct reference from Cirraimick on the disgraceful, premeditated and orchestrated off the ball hits on David Clifford by multiple Armagh players, who took the liberty of running at speed from 5 yards one after the other in a matter of 30 seconds and lamping into a solitary and standing David. And would you believe that the ever vigilant and all seeing Gough and his officials missed it all? It was absolutely disgraceful. I can only imagine how he felt - no orotectiin from officials and no support in the ground to back him when he was set on. DISGUSTING.

Been bugging me all day and still can't understand our fitness levels, to me it was the single defining contributing factor to the result.
It's not we were going hard in the league, we couldn't live with Dublin in CP for example, I was sure we were aiming to build up for now. So shocked to see lads cramping, it's so rare now at the high end of the IC calendar.
When Armagh saw this, I'd say they got huge oxygen from it

Gough blew us up for two frees in front of the posts for Jersey pulls when he seemed to have eyes in the back of his head, but those same eyes couldn't see Armaghs 3 and 5 taking turns in rotation to ram into DC when the ball was up the field.
Goughs interpretation of the tackle was fairly Liberal. He let an awful lot go unlike other referees who would blow up for over carrying. That worked both ways in general.
I don't think he is the best referee anymore because he is more interested in himself than the game.
Lane or Hurson are now better in my view

It was just a strange game. Hard to fathom. Although Paul Murphy was hit after his goal which was definitely a card. I'm not sure if the offender got carded though.

Nobody is blaming the ref for the defeat. Thats on the players who did not perform and on the management for not addressing the non-performance of those players, quickly and/or well enough. What we are highlighting however is something that was within the sphere of control of the ref and his officials that went simewgat surprisingly and all too conveniently unseen.

I agree with parts of your post Mick. But your thoughts have irked me a tad. David is an absolute enigma of a footballer. Some of his scoring has taken our breath away. More power to him. It's a pity he's an era where it's all about tactics and blanket defences. Like it or lump it he's not judged like any other forward in the current game. Walsh wouldn't lace his boots mother of jaysus. End of. For consistency alone Walsh doesn't even come close. David is judged on an entirely different stratosphere. You're referencing minor football there. Chalk and cheese stuff to senior standard. Eaten bread is soon forgotten. He almost single handed won the All Ireland for us in 2022. To compare him to Gooch and Maurice Fitz is ráiméis. Again different eras. If he was around with the football played in Gooches time he would have been a "rock star". Football now and football then are incomparable. I wonder would even the great Gooch impact the game nowadays like he used to. I have my doubts. In my lifetime I've never seen a player like David get the treatment he does regarding your comments on the kids flooding the field at the blow of the final whistle. Not even the Gooch or Maurice Fitz have ever come close to that impact. I'm not even entirely sure what point you're even making there but it doesn't sit well with me. He's not cannon fodder. He's an amateur player at the end of the day.

Watching David this year - he seems to be a smidgen slower. He seems to need a bigger wind up to taking a kick - could be a confidence thing or it could be simply mental exhaustion from all that has been his lot over the past few seasons. Its like a 95% version of his best self. I also think he is stronger on the right of goal than on the left - his radar is slightly off from the left. Nothing scientific in my observations, just a gut feel. DC had no confidence in his long range shooting this year. The final last year seems to have effected him and this continued throughout the league. At this end of the championship there isn't much time to get your shot off and DC usually thrived in that scenario. We don't have too many good kickers on the team. Something we always prided ourselves on. There is a lot in what you are saying there and I believe there is need of a bit of deeper thinking here - these are all young men with lots going on around them and the demands life places on them. Genius in one department needs support from all the others - we know all about car maintenance, etc but nil when it comes to the most complex piece of machinery ever known to mankind, his own head! Now I'm over quota here - working on a project on my PC and keep tabbing back to the second love of my life, GAA! Oiche maith mo chairde go léir!

Lane or Hurson are now better in my view He seems to have put on a fair bit of weight. Brian Gavin in his examiner column commented on Goughs fitness also. He was b*lloxed in extra time.
