Does anyone else find the throw ins at the start of each half absolutely annoying 2/3 of them wrestling while 1 or sometimes the back 2 lads jump over the front 2 trying to get to the ball could we not devise a more effective strategy like the front man going to the side or where the ref is and the other batting it down to him we have learned nothing from the Dublin replay when murchin scored untracked nearly happened again yesterday a real bugbear of mine

Is it just me or are there others here finding it hard to get excited this year.I mean the format is pathetic and with 3 qualifying out of 4 in the group stage makes for a drawn out process. On yesterdays game it was a win and I never felt in danger. However it has only reinforced my thoughts that we seem to be regressing all the timw.Id love to be proved wrong but Im beginning to doubt I will.First of all the Paddy Tally factor while workimg in 2022 is not working now.Every year teams have to evolve and we have nt.This is one of my problems with Jack in that he was so obsessed with Tyrone (for folks that read his book you will understand) he probably gives Tally too much credence. Our defense while man to man is nt bad but as a unit its all over the place and as Veteran stated its like leaving the barn door open.On the backs it was great to have Jason and Briain back and Paul Murphy has been a revelation. We still struggling midfield and because of this I dont think both Paudie and Dara Moynihan can both be in half forward line together.Tony B was excellent yesterday and Shane Murphy mad two excellent saves and his kickouts were good too.I like Cillian Burke and while he did nt score I feel that will come. While David is below par at mo he will be fine too.He still takes too many potshots which makes his scoring ratio from shots look bad.I feel he should take on his man more often as he has the strenght but ive no doubt David will have a few huge days yet.Seanie is playing great stuff at mo T.G.Going forward we have to try do something with midfield.

Another Munster title added. Too much doom and gloom for my liking re our team. Always remember the team and management put in enormous time and effort for our enjoyment. Too early for post mortems. We kicked 23 points yesterday with our Marquee forward not having a great day. Imagine when he clicks [and he will]. Kick enough points and goals wont matter but we are creating goal chances and will take them [hopefully in Croke Park in July]. Kerry will give anybody a tough examination on any given day. Let's wait and see. Keep the faith lads. Ciarrai Abu.

The Munster championship is a drop in standard from Division 1 football. It is a dip in the middle of the season. Monaghan will look to cause a few problems. Should be the toughest game of the group. Avoiding any banana skin trouble there should result in safe passage to the quarter-finals.

Agree totally with edge of the square regarding Fitzgerald if being beaten by Down in the league by 11 pts and failing to get out of division 3 along with a poor stint with the Kerry minors along with a tame exit with Limerick in the tailteann cup getting to the Munster final because they beat Waterford in the easier side of the draw and his defensive system conceded 23 pts yesterday should have conceded at least 2 goals as well then we really are in a bad place regarding future Kerry managers .Rememer Clare were in division 2 last year and beat Cork in the Munster championship who they now meet in the qualifiers in Ennis I think at a minimum he needs to repeat that performance to show progress. But in fairness to him I think he like john Evans Liam Evans you will see him involved with second tier counties on that circuit going forward and fair play to him there is nothing wrong with that and best of luck to him with Clare in the qualifiers I hope he does well like all my fellow Kerrymen when they venture outside of Kerry and are not playing kerry When Collins resigned 12 Clare starters went with him. Only three of last year's first 15 started yesterday along with three more who came on as subs. They performed far better yesterday which is a testament to Mark Fitzgerald. Imagine Kerry with such a turnaround. Championship is a different kittle of fish to the league and Mark is only just in the job, finding out about the players etc. Limerick are Limerick, no more explanation needed there. What say did he have in the game plan of those Kerry minor teams? possibly none. We can only go by what we have witnessed. Clare are still a lower division team. Twenty or so score can now be the norm in championship football even against division one teams. Clare in fact created more goal chances yesterday. There was none of this passing the parcel across the field, unlike Kerry Clare were very direct when in possession which caused Kerry problems. Imagine Mark with the reins over Kerry driving them on with a positive non cautious attitude, having players playing to the very beat of their ability as Clare did yesterday, loving their football, looking forward to coming to training instead of turning it into a boring chore. The rest of the would be managers mentioned seem to be mired in the too usual negative fearful football.

A few more positives, Tony Brosnan getting 3 points (from 4 shots I think). I think he will only improve with confidence and time in the team.
Paul Murphy making his 50th championship appearance, a really good achievement.
Jason Foley coming back, and getting through the game ok.
Cillian Burke having another solid game.
I have reservations, like others, about this team going all the way, but that's for another day. You're not going to prove anything one way or the other against Clare.

Like Veteran I too am wondering for over a year now what is the role of Paddy Talty now in the Kerry setup. He was rightly lauded for his exploits in '22. That Kerry defensive plan is not working and Paddy is unable to come up with something new. No, Jack Barry is not the missing link, the defense was also porous last year and Jack committed more that his share of turn overs. David Moran is by far a bigger loss, shame he did not stay for another year as we would still have Sam. At least David went out at the top unlike others who have a tendency to stay on for a year or two too long.

We are bringing a defensive guru all the way down from Tyrone, at top dollar I have been informed . Credit where credit is due , he seems to have devised an eye catching, new , revolutionary defensive formula. This can be summarised as “ leave the barn door wide open at all times” . They tell me all great inventions are simple. The strategy was so “effective” that Shane Murphy had to make two wonderful saves to prevent the Clare team and their supporters from becoming rabid dogs. Kudos to Shane. Who was detailed to mark Clare’s number eleven? Nominally, if the jersey numbers are the yardstick, it was Tadgh Morley but it may have been somebody else’s chore. Either way, that Clare player was allowed run amok unchaperoned ,particularly in the first half. He reminded me of a racehorse who had ditched his jockey and as a consequence could run anywhere to cause destruction. Did any of the management team make a move to correct that anomaly as the half progressed . If so, it escaped my attention. I get, to an extent, the talk about a defensive midfielder even though the lionizing of Jack Barry in that respect is a little on the fanciful side. A case of absence making the heart grow fonder. Anyway, back to the point. How many “defenders” did we have back when Clare got their goal. God, it was brutal. allowing a Clare player, who has no more football in him than my two year old grandson, weave his way through a massed defence. Admittedly, it was clear that the referee had blown his whistle well before the goal was scored. But no matter how you look at it ,it was awful defending . In tune with several other puerile defensive efforts. Talking about the referee, a very whistle happy little boy. He set the tone for me very early on. In the opening minutes of the game a Clare defender was coming out with the ball when Cillian Burke , who did well, put in a fairly innocuous high tackle, Fair enough, it warranted a free out I suppose. Needless to say the Clare player went down . In the meantime , Cillian and the referee went out to take up their positions to face the ensuing free. When the referee turned around to face the free he noticed the poor Clare player was still down thinking of his mama. Oh gosh says the referee I better issue a yellow card here or the locals will have me by the goulies. He duly acted so which was a signal for the Clare boy’s resurrection. Typical weak refereeing. Another annoying feature in the first half was now often our two midfielders jumped for the same ball. Basic stuff . My ball , Joe or Diarmuid as the case maybe . Overall , I thought Diarmuid was our most consistent player. Joe was too inconspicuous for my liking. I was happy enough with the display of our forwards. The disturbing feature in that respect is how alien scoring goals has become for us. Must be remedied. I was impressed with Clare. Mark Fitzgerald has them well tutored. An interesting game in prospect between themselves and Cork in Ennis. I sill have confidence in this panel of players to deliver the ultimate prize. Unfortunately, I do not have the same confidence in our management. Prove me wrong lads. Great post Veteran, knowledgeable, discerning and honest. I agree 100% with your last sentence. Watching the game, seeing some great players dealing with what was in front of them, I was reminded of stories I heard the elders telling in my youth about farmers who were less than gifted but because they had great land that always produced in abundance their limitations were never exposed. Tony Brosnan proved to be a great linkman. Paul Geaney still has a big role to play. Paudie is continuing to show himself as the one player (apart from big brother of course) that would slot seamlessly into a Mick O’Dwyer team, always full speed, head up, picking out the most killing 50 metre pass, with complete disrespect for sweepers or whatever may be in front of him. I can picture Mikey and John Egan taking up their positions as he gets the ball. Joe’s graph is still on the rise. Some of us have been saying that he needs to become more dominant. He seems to have progressed further in that direction. I’ve said it several times before, there is slightly more effort this year to let players express themselves but it is doubtful if the knowhow or willingness is there to let the players catch fire.
