Three things. 1. Thank God we are back in the final 2. We have no injuries or suspensions from the game 3. We got great food for thought from a good team in Derry. We needed a tough honest battle and Derry duly obliged. We have no excuse that we are undercooked for Dublin.
Hon the Kingdom.

Although Spillane didn't have a good day, I would love to see himself and j small marking each other. J small has that tendency to self destruct.

We shouldn't be thinking of Dublin when picking the team. Let them worry about us. We will do things on our own terms. We must have flexible tactics. Then if we find that Dublin are doing something that is causing a problem we adjust to deal with it - not try to guess what the problem might be the Thursday before and pick a team for a situation that might never arise.
That was what happened yesterday. Jack had talked himself into believing they would be very defensive and the Kerry weren't ready for their attacking game. It was reassuring to see how efficiently they dealt with it at half time, outscoring them 10 pts to 5 in the 2 nd half.
McCaffrey is only a shadow of his former self. Their fullback line is limited so a few long ones in there might be rewarding. David should be given licence to roam and kick from way out as he did in the Louth game - what does the sweeper do then?
If the teams lineout (as distinct from selected) as they did in the semis we could have 2 Na Gael clubmates vs 2 Raheney clubmates at midfield.

Intriguing contest awaits. You can pick holes in both setups, which adds to the debate. Kerry will be full of confidence post the Derry win and having Sam residing the Kingdom for the past 12 months. The leaders look mentally stronger this year.
Jack had brought a lot of grit to this team.
I think Dublin are a side you can plan for / the formula, patterns and faces are known quantities. Can the same be said of Kerry? Possibly.
Absent injuries, I can see little changes to both sides. The only debate for Kerry may be in the half fwd line. Is Ruairà Murphy an option to start? - had an engine, good going both ways m, plus if Dublin set up as expected he’ll get his hands on plenty of ball, which helps a player grow into a game. For inexperienced lads it’s often easier to start that enter the cauldron when the game is in the melting pot. Big ask but an interesting option.
Jacks in-game management is a plus - substitutions have largely worked well this year. He has made good calls at the half time interval.
Bar KS, a fit 26 to work with, great place to be heading into a final.

Leaving Croke Park on Sunday, my companions and I agreed that Dublin would not have won that game. As the night went on, much was discussed and the big questions were: who have Dublin discovered in the last 3 years? No one that would get onto this Kerry team. Are we to have recurring nightmares about ‘Steps’ Murchan tearing down the middle? Surely not. SURELY not. Will we have a repeat of David’s amazing fielding for marks against a questionable Dublin full back line? Hopefully. Will Jack pull off another master stroke at half-time like last year, if necessary? Probably. By the time we went home, the game was as good as won 😂 In the cold light of day, I have a gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach and it’s going to be a long 2 weeks. At least the ticket hunt will keep everyone occupied, that’s half the craic!

A few reasons: 1. We are the champions now & know how to win the tight games 2. Having gone toe to toe with Dublin last year will breed confidence 3. Strong management team - changed things around @ half time on Sunday - Derry’s approach was unexpected & had us on the back foot - we changed our approach in the 2nd half 4. Have Dublin regressed? Monaghan are surely inferior to Derry - Monaghan also had a much more older player profile - McManus, Hughes, O’Connell all 30+ yet they stayed with Dublin for 60 mins. For me it’s a bit like the Tyrone game - we, supporters, think of past defeats to the Red Hands/Dubs but think we now hold upper hand. It still will be a long no of days though!!

Colm Parkinson had an interesting fact on Twitter earlier. Johnny Cooper the only player that started in 2019 replay not available to the Dubs this time. Said David Moran was the only one for Kerry but he missed Gavin Crowley. A lot of the Kerry team were 23 or younger then and are 26 and 27 now, so should be coming into their peak. Then again as others have said Dublin have a good few extra players from last year. Still, I think we should beat them.

On a complete seperate topic lads, does anyone observe and notice how graham o Sullivan has been playing for Kerry? Is he our most underrated player? He starts at corner back but is constantly winning ball in the middle third, it’s like he plays as quarter back that roams and is like a defensive centre forward… I find his role very intriguing and it goes all the way back to last years final against Galway.. graham was a very complete underage footballer who played everywhere for dromod also… amazing coaching by the Kerry coaches to give him this sort of role… everyone focuses on gavin white and tom Sullivan as our best backs etcetera but graham in my opinion is the most important.

Did he end up playing at wing forward for the last few minutes? It looked like Ruairi Murphy came on at wing back. Graham won a break from one of the kick outs (that Barry fisted) in the right wing forward position

Terrace talk website not updated yet for championship but 29 players used in the league anyway then BOB and SOB i assume are the only 2 who didnt play in league, to play in championship. I would say its 25 players out of that 31 that have seen game time in championship so far. Jack Barry, Tony Brosnan, Jason Foley, Tadhg Morley, Dara Moynihan, Paul Murphy, Donal O'Sullivan, Graham O'Sullivan, Tom O'Sullivan. Paudie Clifford, Ruairi Murphy, Barry O'Sullivan. Micheál Burns, David Clifford, Sean O'Shea, Stefan Okunbor, Dara Roche, Killian Spillane, Pa Warren. Shane Murphy. Greg Horan, Shane Ryan, Adrian Spillane. Dylan Casey, Paul Geaney, Diarmuid O'Connor, Gavin White. Mike Breen, Dylan Geaney,

For the championship - 24 I think. Open to correction there. Outside of the 20 players that played on Sunday, I think 4 others have featured - Killian Spillane, Barry Dan, Dylan Casey & Mike Breen. I'll welcome any correction.
Dylan Casey started against Clare/Mayo, Mike Breen started against Louth, Tony Brosnan started against Tipp/Clare/Mayo/Louth. BOB & SOB have come on as subs in most matches.

Dublin will double mark Clifford I think cos they know how reliant we are on him. It's up to the other players to take advantage of this

Dublin have a better bench in terms of experience. We need to be well ahead by the time they come on. We were wasteful in front of goal again on sunday and that has to be addressed. Dublins weak area is their defence and we must exploit that ruthlessly & efficiently. D Clifford will be double marked so the other forwards have to step up. P Geaney is not scoring enough at this level for some time. Also last sunday the ball going into the forwards especially in the 1st half was sloppy.

The big thing for me is that we are on an upward curve and they are on a downward curve. Last year we were very even. Surely we have moved further up by becoming more mature and confident and they have certainly got older which brings them further down. This should manifest itself especially in the second half.

Let’s start the match up debate…..
Looking ahead to Sunday week, there are only two questions, in reality, regarding our starting XV. Does Jack and Co, stick with Spillane, or go with Stephen O’Brien and does Brión O’Beagleoich start to utilise his pace and physique as a kickout target and launchpad.
Looking at the starting Dublin half back line last weekend, it was Murchan, Howard and Small. Murchan, I envisage would be their man to mark Moynihan, I suspect Howard will revert to midfield with McCarthy falling to six to mark Seanie, this should suit us. That leaves Johnny Small at number 7. As Dublin will have Fenton, Howard, McCarthy and Scally around the middle, we need a physical presence, for that reason, I can see Adrain starting. It’s also possible that Small may line up on Seanie leaving McCarthy as a launch pad if Adrain goes deep, again, Adrain physical presence will be needed for the first 40 minutes or so, so for me he retains his place.
It’s worth noticing too, of Monaghan’s 0-13 last week, six points came from play, three more were 45’s and one was a mark… that’s only a measly three points from frees. Dublin are not fouling in or around the D, considering they will be facing Seanie and DC, for them keeping this high disciplinary line is imperative.
Our defensive shape, the positioning of Tadgh and the covering of our midfielders and wing men is crucial. My only fear is we have no viable option off the bench to cover the two Na Gaeil men. Jack has already consistently set out his stall in O’Brien and Burns as the men to come in, it’s unlikely at this juncture that Killian will be pushing, at best within the named 26 match day, but would he be able or match fit if required?
Back to our back six, I can see Brión starting, no reflection on Murphy , I just think it’s a horses for courses situation. Both sides will be holding key players in reserve, with a plan to neutralise effectiveness. Last day out Dublin started Niall Scully, Paul Mannion and Paddy Small outside, with Cormac Costello, Con O’Callaghan and Colm Basquel inside. Similar to us, the big question is, will Kilkenny start or not, personally, I think he will with either Small or Scully falling out.
Inside Dublin are dangerous, Foley for me takes O’Callaghan with Tom Sullivan taking Costello, Costello is more of a scoring threat at present and I’m sure Tom will be hell bent on making up for the failings of twelve months. Basqual comes slightly deeper to the 40 area which would suit Graham.
Paul Mannion for me is tailor made for O’Beagleoich, Small goes deeper permitting Tadgh sit and either Scully or Kilkenny will be tasked with White.
As match ups go, up top, I cannot see either Gannon, Byrnes or Fitzsimons holding DC, Fitzsimons is probably the most physical and sticky of the inside three, but even allowing for that is he there only viable option?
Off either bench we have nullifiers, MacCaffery vs O’Brien, Kilkenny or Scully vs Murphy etc… it will be interesting, but they may cancel each other out.
Funnily enough, I see Cluxton as a possible weakness, every county have adopted and evolved to a set up where the keeper is an additional defender and outlet. Cluxton is A1 off the tee, but he isn’t as accurate when pushed up on and has the ball in the paw, in addition he won’t venture very far from the 21-yard line. Yes, he commands his square but even last week, he fumbled one right at the post, two other kicks found touch… might sound mad, but, if I was Jack, I’d go for Cluxton in general play,

Eamon managed to really rattle Cluxton in the 2016 semi-final when Dublin were in their pomp. Agree that he is one area to definitely target. IMO the final is the time for Ryan to show he is the new No 1 No 1!!

Personally I think too much has been made of Cluxtons clean sheets in the last 2 games.
Mayos McLaughlin couldn't pass it into an empty net and McManus butchered a goal chance on Sat.
I really want Kerry to test him,
This might not sound great but him returning and taking the place of 2 young players who frankly done nothing wrong I think was wrong.
All to win a 9th medal... I hope we show him he should have stayed away.

Dublin will double mark Clifford I think as if you stop him, you stop Kerry. It's up to the other players to take advantage of this. Shane Ryan coming out the field will give us an extra men then.
This game will be won and lost in the final 1/4. Then it comes down to legs, stamina, impact from bench and decision making under pressure.
I feel we've more pace and stamina than Dublin and our decision making is very good.
Dublin have a lot of players over 30, so this might be their last chance. I imagine if they lose, there'll be a few retirements. Cluxton, Fitzsimmons, McCarthy, Rock, McCaffrey, Mannion. It might come down to bench impact.
Stephen O'Brien was excellent the last day. Tony Brosnan needs to step up to this level. BJK used to get us a few points from the bench. Begley is very experienced now and if he doesn't start, he's a great option off the bench. Burns very experienced also despite never really starting games. Killian Spillane is an interesting option but not sure how fit he is.
Does anyone have any info on Killian Spillane? Has he been training normally for a few weeks now?
