Preview(majority of this information off Kerryman)
Unlike the club and county Championship which are more of a sprint at the end of the season the county league is more of a marathon that runs at a slightly more leisured pace over the summer albeit that the 11 rounds are now somewhat more compressed over about four and a half months predicting what teams will come to the fore at the end of the 11 game programme is a foolhardy business, not least because there is so little form to go on from the previous four or five months
Austin Stacks: Whether or not they’re still dwelling on relegation from the senior championship new manager billy lees first task is to wash any residual negativity from his players head and focus on the year ahead. Lee won’t see much of Dylan Casey, Jack O Shea Greg Horan With kerry Or Joe O Connor who is rehabbing aswell as the following who will miss the opening rounds Armin Heinrich, Conor Horan Jordan Kissane Who are tied up with the Kerry 20s Wayne Guthrie Made the swap to soccer and Conor Jordan is travelling abroad Target:Top 3 Finish Key Men:Michael O Donnell/Michael O Gara Young Guns:Colm Browne/Michael Tansley Manager:Billy Lee
Ballymacelligott: With four precious on the broad Ballymac secured their division 1 status, which most certainly a notable achievement in itself. While there junior premier aspirations were ended by Listry at the semi final stage. Target:Mid Table Finish Key Men:Aidan Breen/Michael Reidy Young Guns:Donal Daly/Niall Collins Manager:Ian Blake
Castleisland Desmonds: They enjoyed a superb division 2 campaign in 2022, accumulating 20 points and going unbeaten . Things went a bit peer shaped later in the year failing to get out of their intermediate group and not preforming in their north kerry final Target:Mid Table Finish Key Men:Adam Donoghue/Maurice Hickey Young Guns:Ruairi Bourke/Dominic Finnegan Manager:Keith Moynihan
Dingle: While the west Kerry side will have fond memories of lifting the division 1 title last season after a cracking extra time victory over dr Crokes in the decider. They had a great run in the county championship losing out in the semi final stage to eventual champions east kerry by the narrowest of margins. They will be without Barry dan, Tom O Sullivan And Dylan,Paul Geaney aswell as travelling George Durant,Conor OSullivan ,Pa Sheehy and Patrick O Connor But will be boosted by the returning Conor Geaney a difficult start beckons Target:Top 6 Finish Key Men:Conor Geaney/Tom Leo O Sullivan Young Guns:Paddy Ryan/Ben O Brien Manager:Padraig Corcoran
Dr Crokes: If they can repeat their 2022 county league from this year returning manager Brian Mcmahon who will be a happy man the killarney club were pipped by dingle as previously mentioned in the county league final. Mike Moloney has retired while kieran o Leary is considering his future They will be without Tony Brosnan Michael Burns Gavin White aswell as Cian Mcmahon And Maidhici Lynch with the Kerry 20s Target: To Win It Key Men:Mark O Shea,Brian Looney Young Guns:Alex Hennigan,Shay O Meara Manager:Brian Mcmahon
Gneeveguilla: Keeping their heads above water last year with nine points the former junior premier kingpins will be hoping to consolidate their position with a bit more comfort this year Target:Avoid Relegation Key Men:John O Leary Conor Heirly Young Guns:Paudie O Leary Owen Fitzgerald Manager:John Horgan
Kerins O Rahillys; A Mid Table finish last year (a four way tie on about 12 points) Was just about about acceptable for o Rahillys who subsequently had a horror of a county SFC but redeemed their season by winning the senior club championship and Munster Club SFC. They will be without Jack Savage Cormac Coffey Gavin O Brien Padraig Neenan Karl Mullins aswell con Barrett might be retire. Target:Top 6 Finish Key Men:David Moran Barry John Keane Young Guns:Ben Hanafin Jake Foley Manager:John O Connor
Kilcummin: Just like Castleisland desmomds Kilcummin where outstanding last season in division 2 however a disappointing county intermediate championship ended at the quarter final stage at the despair of Legion and they lost to the same opposition in the district championship Target: Avoid Relegation Key Men:Paul O Shea Brendan Kealy Young Guns:James Williams Mark O Shea Manager:James Foley
Legion There is a understandable buzz around direen at the moment as the retuning Peter keane gets ready to embark on his second stint as legion manager with strong numbers in training and despite the inter county commitments of Cian Gammell,William Shine And Darragh Fleming, Killarney legion will be a team to watch from the get go this season. Target:Top 3 Finish Key Men:Darragh Lyne James O Donoghue Young Guns:Sam Benson Conor Gammell Manager:Peter Keane
Milltown Castlemaine It wasn’t in the park like Desmond’s and Kilcummin men did enough just to get over the line and get a promotion spot to division 1 last year they will be without underage star Cillian Burke who is with the Kerry 20s Target:Avoid Relegation Key Men:Eanna O Connor Pa Wrenn Young Guns:Ben Downes Conor Spillane Manager:Mark Bourke
Rathmore Coming off the season of their lives , where they got county munster and all Ireland intermediate the east kerry club must get back on the horse this weekend club stalwarts have retired will be boosted by Minor all star Fionn Murphy coming into the pack, they will be seriously competitive even without the four players involved with kerry and Andrew Moynihan who is involved with the 20s Target:Win it out Key Men:Mark Ryan Brian Friel Young Guns:Fionn Murphy Ciaran Collins Manager:Denis Moynihan
Spa: Ultra competitive at every level last season Spa picked up six wins in division 1 reached a senior club semi final and were unfortunate to find themselves in the group of death they will be without Dara moynihan and Dan O Donoghue who are both with kerry but will be guided by Liam Kearney as he has returned from recent travels Target:Win it out Key Men:Liam Kearney Shane Cronin Young Guns:Timmy Moynihan Rian O Neill Manager:Pa Murphy
Predictions
Winners:Rathmore Runners Up:Spa
Dark Horses:Legion
Relegation Gneeveguilla Kilcummin Milltown

The Kerry GAA website is shocking impossible to find results or fixtures for the county league Could do with separate sections for underage/schools comps and adult grades. Maybe a hurling and football split as well. Having them all in on one page has no order to it. So many games there then that results have disappeared after a few days.

I see Waterville have beaten all the other 6 teams in Div 5B after yesterday evening.
Is that the league over for them now, or what is the format there?

Something I feel that isn't being talked about enough is the fact Ballymac are currently joint top of Div 1 and have beaten Crokes and Dingle amongst others. Legion I think have a game in hand at the moment but still quite an achievement.

They also beat Stacks in Connolly Park, always a tough task. They will be favourites for the junior championship now!

Stacks will win the last 2 games, there still in with a chance of survival.
But it’s pretty bunched at the bottom, only guarantee is that Desmond’s are relegated.

It’s very tight at the bottom - Spa have a couple of tough games too & Dingle, despite having 3 games look vulnerable- Flannery & Conor Geaney will both miss the next game vs KO’R due to their red cards today.

Loads of teams have had a mixed season
Rahillys have turned there league around completely after being in the relegation zone winning 3 big games against Crokes Gneeveguilla and spa.. there is a new and improved defensive system in place by them which hasn’t been there previously
Dingle are doing very well considering they’re playing there games with a literal second team + Conor Geaney Conor Flannery Tom Leo OSullivan And Michael Geaney
Stacks have been disappointing you’d think they would’ve kicked on with the return of the Kerry U20s and a few injuries but don’t seem to be clicking
Crokes are Crokes new players are slotting in nicely for them and helping them out older heads such As Daithi Casey And Brian Looney still driving things on
I am impressed with how Ballymacelligott have done so far since they don’t play with any sweepers … 6 forwards 6 backs and play ball they seem to underperform in championship though.
Would like to see how the remainder of the league fares and can stacks dig themselves out of the hole they’re in

There could be a lot of teams bunched on 9 points when it's all over. Very tight at the bottom.

With 1 back game and the final round to be played it looks like Legion and Crokes could be level in D1 with Desmonds relegated. Stacks need to beat Gneeveguilla to avoid relegation and relegate Gneeveguilla instead. There could be three teams (4 if Gneeveguilla lose) on 10 points for the final relegation spot - will ties require playoffs or is scoring different in use this year?

It’s all very tight at the bottom half - as many as 6 teams could end up on 10 points if the results go as follows- Milltown to lose to Crokes Rathmore to lose to Kilcummin KO’R to lose to Legion Spa to draw with Ballymac Stacks to beat Gneeveguilla Dingle lose to Legion ( back game) & beat Desmonds in final game That would see Desmonds & Gneeveguilla relegated with the other 6 left to fight out the remaining relegation slot - relegation would then be decided by play offs - scoring difference does not come into play. I doubt if ever a team was previously relegated on 10 points.

I believe it’s just top team wins it That Will be good for Milltown/Castlemaine as if Legion drop more points Crokes will be crowned champions before Milltown play them. Milltown will need these points to insure safety with all the match fixing that is going on currently.

So does it come down to score difference if they finish level in points? If they finish level, it’s a play off - scoring difference does not apply.

Stacks and Narries finish on 10. Does that mean they have a relegation playoff?
"Where teams finish level on points having played same number of fixtures, a play-off will determine final placings regarding promotion relegation and divisional winners."
Could be tasty.
Desmonds and Gneeveguilla gone.

The relegation might be the best game of the last round, a few results very dubious in the last round, but that’s the way things are.

Division 1 has thrown up some odd stats this year, not least being the relegation playoff between the 2021 and 2022 club champions.
Two teams in the relegation playoff have positive scoring differences but still find themselves at the bottom of the table. Stacks with 5 wins and Rahilly's with 4 both have more wins than Milltown Castlemaine (who are safe) with 3. Rahilly's beat the league winners in Lewis Road.
