Big reduction in number of KY panellists involved this year as opposed to last year.

Two from Leitrim and lads from Mayo, Louth and Offaly.

MTU Kerry relegated from Sigerson after losing 2-09 to 0-12 to SETU Carlow. Despite getting to the Semi-Finals last year under Aidan O'Mahony and losing to eventual winners NUIG after extra time. They lost both of their Sigerson games this year and see them relegated from the Sigerson for next year. Seriously disappointing from their point of view but they were missing a lot of players they had last year.

Probably a few factors at play, UL and Trinity are the only Universities which do not require a third language allowing them to cater to a broader group of potential students. Limerick has a motorway to Galway and Dublin which would serve a large catchment area.

Sigerson QFs this week: UL 1-15 UG 2-10 DCU 2-12 MTU Cork 0-9 Nice goal by Paul Walsh for UL: Cracking game. Was on YouTube. Great competition, seems to be played with more freedom than Intercounty, more adventurous risk taking. Very enjoyable to watch

Sigerson Cup final, UL v UCC, on tonight 7:30pm on TG4. About 20 Kerry lads involved between both panels. Look out for Downes from Clare at 10 for UL, kicked some Shane Walsh style scores off right and left in the SF and a Damian Comer v Derry or Gavin White v Tyrone style goal with the keeper stranded.

Hard to know how to feel about so many Cork lads on the team...
Also, I always find it strange when Kerry people go to Limerick over Cork for college. To me, Cork is the natural choice (if not Tralee of course).

I can see them breaking into Division 1 in the next 2 or 3 years when players mature.

To me, Cork is the natural choice (if not Tralee of course). Depends on what lads want to study. Also UL closer then UCC for half of Kerry. Lot of Cork players on UCC team for sure, so it's not UCK anymore! But good day for your parish with one Annascaul player on both starting teams. Good day for the Geaney clan too: Dylan Geaney kicked 1-4 as he became the third Dingle Geaney to win a Sigerson this decade after Paul (2014) and Conor (2019). www.the42.ie/sigerson-cup-ucc-ul-5996125-Feb2023/

It will be interesting to see what Cork harvest from their 2019 minors.
Choice of college is being governed by what people wish to study but also factoring in issues with accommodation which is expensive and scarce. In my relatively limited circle, I know of more young people commuting to classes in both Cork & Limerick than ever before.
