St. Brendans College defeated Mercy Mounthawk in the O'Sullivan Cup Final today in Fitzgerald Stadium on a score line of 2-8 to 0-6. Arguably an upset considering Mounthawk beat the Sem in the Frewen Cup Semi-Final last March however you can never count out the Sem boys in finals.

Disappointing game - Mounthawk never got going, teams level @ 1-0 to 0-03 after 20 mins with both sides being guilty of poor shooting - the Sem then hit 3 points in as many minutes plus a goal before half time when a free kick fell fortuitously into the path of an unmarked player who easily found the net.
The Sem held the upper hand all through the 2nd half & ran out easy & deserving winners.
The Sem laid their foundations for victory on a strong half back line, a hard working midfield & some slick ball to their half forwards.
Mounthawk were very disappointing- their half forward line of Kerry minors Niall Collins & Odhran Ferris spent more time in their defence than attack resulting in the isolation of inside forwards Paddy Lane & Darragh O’Connor who found it difficult to shake off their markers - the quality of ball being delivered inside was at best poor.

I made my way up from the Iveragh peninsula passing through showers of rain and arrived just as the captain of the sem south Kerry man Aodhon O Neill was up for the toss pity he is not with colaiste sceilige big loss for sure .The first half was a scrappy affair with misses on both sides and two forttutious goals from the sem had them leading at half time .The second half the sem took over with 12 for the sem Hennigan and 11 the aforementioned O Neill very impressive .Kelleher the sem best midfielder on view but the 3 Kerry minor forwards with mounthawk very.disappointing.Moynihan 14 son of legend Seamus also chipped in with a few nice scores .Monahan mounthawk who was impressive in the county championship was also very subdued today .But with the teams due to meet again in a few weeks still all to play for and my own school colaiste sceilige also in the mix the games could be very interesting

A underperformed mounthawk team go down to a young sem team missing their two best players in luke crowley and cian lynch Altough John Kelliher was meant to be immense
Clonakility seem to be up their with the sem they absolutely destroyed Rathmore . cork with 2022 cork minor scoring 2-7 from play Olan o donovan they’ll be hard to beat
Tralee are ok this year , probably don’t have the fire power to push for a final spot this year
Milltown and PCD lost
In terms of minors for next year Jamie moynihan for sem and keelan o shea are impressing Paddy lane and Daniel Kirby are good Don’t think cbs have any potential minors bar sean og brosnan
20s management will be very happy With John Kelliher as he beat rob monahan who will be a main man for the 20s this year Colm browne impressing for cbs could be worth a look

The sem edged an absorbing high scoring contest against my old alma mater sceilige yesterday in Keel where the scoring was of the highest order.sceilige hit the ground running with frees from Ian O Sullivan before the pacy Hennigan opened the sem account with a fisted effort. The game swung back and forth with Sceilige ahead by a point at half time with a fortuitous goal by Cronin keeping the sem in touch. The second half started in whirlwind fashion with both keepers making excellent saves before another fortuitous goal from Kelleher stretched the lead to at one stage to 6 pts .Keating from the sem at half back came more into the game where the midfield exchanges were even. The introduction of Corcoran for Sceilige proved decisive and it was evident at this stage that all the sem backs were struggling and two goals from Corcoran had the game level. With the game heading for a deserved draw a defensive mix up at the back allowed Cronin from the semin for the deceisive winning goal. This was as good a colleges game as I have seen in a long time with 31 combined scores in difficult heavy and windy conditions. As I made my way down back south though disappointed I still think with games to come v Ballincollig and Mounthawk Sceilige still have a lot to play for and this is a very good sceilige team but I do think they need to improve their discipline as it left them down at vital stages yesterday .

The Green won the Munster U16.5 C hurling title. Quite an achievement to be fair as that would be a decent enough standard I would say.

Yes and won it in a manner that suggests that they could give B grade a right shot too Hurling is promoted as much in Tralee CBS now as it is in Causeway school a drift of north kerry lads there accordingly and then you have the Parnells players as well in the CBS Some serious hurling prospects on that CBS team

A good win today for Mounthawk over Colaiste na Sceilige. Sceilige started the better with Mounthawk slow out of the traps & led 0-4 to 0-1 after 15 mins; Mounthawk got into their stride with strong performances from Daniel Kirby, Cillian Litchfield & Ben Murphy which allowed the likes of Odhran Ferris, Darragh O’Connor & Paddy Lane to pick off good scores, amassing 1-07 to 0-1 by half time , Ferris with the goal. Mounthawk continued to dictate matters in the 2nd half with Rob Monahan influential in the middle & defenders Seán Rice & Jack Murphy giving little away - the forwards kept the scoreboard ticking over resulting in a final score line of 2-16 to 0-12; both sides finished with 14 men, Sceilige full forward off on a straight red & Seán Rice on a black card for a late trip.

I can't seem to find it anywhere. Kenmare are playing as well in recent years. The more players playing at that age can only be a good thing

I was looking in the wrong place. Disappointing to see they've dropped down to the C championship. I think it was two years ago they'd planned to be in the A championship.

As I said Tralee CBS is heading to be a stronger hurling school than Causeway and maybe Mercy Mounthawk as well Three factors - hurling not pushed on as much in Causeway as before, teachers in the Tralee schools with hurling pedigree in the Tralee schools pushing it on and Tralee Parnells players feeding into Tralee schools

I left Cromane weds disappointed that a colaiste sceilige team which had such high expectations to win the corn ui mhuiri this season following the good run we had in last season competition but unfortunately a combination of a really tough group injuries and a dip in form meant we now exit the competition before Christmas .I wish the remaining Kerry teams well in the competition

Good win for Mounthawk today in 1/4 final of Corn Ui Mhuiri vs Clonakilty - 3-15 to 0-16; Paddy Lane (3-3) & Rob Monahan (0-07) outstanding; Mounthawk now into semi final where they will play St Brendans or Hamilton High School Bandon.

All young teachers so you’d imagine hurling will only get stronger in the school. A lot more kids from Kilmoyley, Crotta, Abbeydorney and Ardfert going to the CBS now who traditionally might have gone to Causesy. And as previously mentioned Tralee Parnells would be a big feeder club now to the school. They have massive numbers out training. Also football is giving a lot more preference in Causeway than it was in the past and I think Maurice Leahy is a huge loss to the school from a hurling side of things. If we have Tralee CBS and Causeway both playing at B level consistently down the line that would be a huge help to Kerry hurling.

Sem 2-16 Mounthawk 0-13.
The Sem turned on the style in the middle of the 2nd half, hitting 1-05 without reply when leading 1-09 to 0-10 after Mounthawk had halved the half time deficit from 4 points to two. Mounthawk had the better of matters in the first half and were unlucky to go in four down at the interval 1-07 to 0-06 - the goal was a disaster from Mounthawk’s perspective, a line ball kicked backwards to the keeper which saw a Sem forward nip in & gain possession before firing into an empty net.
Mounthawk came out in the 2nd half full of vigour & cut the deficit to 2 points but St Brendan’s kicked on & were out of sight within 7/8 minutes with some fine points & a flicked goal from their corner forward.
St Brendans were very solid in defence with their full back dominant & their midfield driving them forward.
Mounthawk were too reliant on Rob Monahan - he wore No 8 but lined out at full forward - he rotated between full forward & midfield & kicked 8 points in total - some were off the left, some off the right - the final score was surely kicked from 60 yards - Jack Murphy @ full back did a very good job on Luke Crowley while Cillian Litchfield was solid @ 6 - Niall Collins was good for 40 mins but the second half display from the SEM was just too much.

St Brendan's will have double the distance to travel than their opponents for an early throw in? Hardly seems fair. Was Ennis or Salthill unavailable?

I'm not sure about the availability of Ennis but the travel time to Tuam is quicker than to Salthill. There is motorway all the way to Tuam. It takes an age to cross Galway city to get to and from Salthill on a Saturday.

Interesting to see that there's a Kerry colleges U16.5 hurling championship named after Gary Schollard. The Green beat Causeway in the final.
There was also a B competition with Kenmare, Mounthawk and interestingly Castleisland I it.
