is the losers round a new development? havent heard of it in any district championship before New format started in the 2021 edition when Valentia could no longer field a team. This brought the number of competing clubs down from 8 to 7. An awkward number for a knockout tournament. Could have given 1 team a bye to semi, but I suppose this format at least means a team has to win 3 games. These were the results from the weekend - Preliminary round: Sneem/Derrynane 1-12 Waterville 1-13 (after extra time. 1-10 each at end of normal time). Quarter final: Skellig Rangers 2-7 St Michael's/Foilmore 0-9.

I fancy renard to run this one close. With killian Young brian Sugrue driving on from the back and Mark Sugrue power housing midfield they have enough to finally win it I feel.

Walsh’s SuperValu SK Cham Quarter Final Piarsaigh Na Dromoda: 1-8(11) Reenard: 1-7(10)
A pretty dull affair to be honest, played in front of a huge crowd, Reenard dominated the possesion in the first half but found scores very hard to come by. Somehow despite being overrun around the middle and in many areas Dromid somehow found themselves level at HT. Dromid started the second half well and Niall Shea got a great goal after some terrific teamwork. However Reenard fought back and a long ball in the square was punched into the Dromid net. With about 5 minutes to go, the visitors led by a point but with 2 late points Dromid held out, Reenard had a late 45 but it slipped away narrowly wide. That bit of experience was probably enough for last years beaten finalists in the end. The game was sloppy enough with lots of misplaced passes and it got scrappy at the end with one of the Reenard men receiving his marching orders for a strike. There were a few scuffles here and there but nothing we havent seen before. Dromid are nowhere near the team they were in the last few years, Renard were missing Killian Young, Rob Wharton and Mark Sugrue, they still are missing something to step it up to the next level. As I said it was probably Dromids experience that got them over the line, most of these players have played in at least 5 or 6 sk finals and were just about able to close out the game.
St. Marys: 2-19(25) Sneem/Derrynane: 0-11(11)
I didnt venture into this one as I think the result was always likely beforehand, especially in the Con Keating park. No sign of Bryan Sheehan, I heard he stepped away but assumed he would make a comeback for the championship. St Marys have some lovely young players coming through and will still be the team to beat for a good while
Semi final draws St Marys V Skellig Rangers Dromid V Waterville
Interestingly, Marys and Dromid have yet again avoided each other in a semi final, for the 6th year in a row... Portmagee will have a say in this yet, they ran the Town very close last year and are certainly physical enough to go toe to toe with the Marys. Waterville have had a poor year but won very impressively yesterday in the junior relegation game against BallyFoilmore so they will be no pushover for Dromid Semis are to be played in 2 weeks time

Sunday 6th in Waterville at 1:30. St.Mary's v Skellig Rangers.
Final to be played 2 weeks after, the board dragging it out a bit as usual

Really looking forward to the south Kerry championship games coming up I predict another mouthwatering final of Droimid v Mary’s but games at this time of year can be unpredictable maybe an upset might be on the cards too hopefully the weather improves

Full Time Piarsaigh Na Dromoda: 0-11(11) Waterville: 1-6(9)
Dromid back into a 6th final in a row. The less said about this game the better, the pitch looked good but it appeared to be very soft after a while. Wville started ok but lacked any real firepower. Dromid tagged on a few points and looked comfortable until a high hopeful ball into the dromid square was flicked home. A nervy last few minutes for the pearses but they held on. The football on show was poor, lots of lateral handpassing and very little free flowing moves.
Its hard not to see the winners coming from the other side of the draw tomorrow. Id imagine Wville will be the venue in 2 weeks time

Semi final results from the weekend.
Dromid Pearses 0-11 Waterville 1-6 (played in Cahersiveen)
Skellig Rangers 0-11 St Mary's 1-7
(After extra time. 0-9 to 1-6 at the end of normal time. Played in Waterville)
The lads from Portmagee in to the final for the first time since 2016 - which was also the last year anyone other than Dromid or the Marys got to the decider.

so are Valentia gone completely? sad times ahead for alof of rural clubs They still play underage - the Skellig Rangers/Valentia minors qualified for the South Kerry final today. A few of the senior group like Andy Quigley, Jim Lynch and Paul O'Connor have been taken in by Dromid Pearses this year and last year. Hopefully they'll be back on their own in the not too distant future.

Big big win by Skellig Rangers yesterday and fully deserved too. They were quite wasteful but just about did enough. They have had a decent team for a few years now and almost beat Gguilla last year in the junior final. They will go in as favourites for the final and rightly so. Dromid will probably be relieved not to be looking at the Mary's for the 6th year running. Nonetheless it's a good pairing, Portmagee cane out in top in the county league meeting earlier in the year.
Final fixed for Saturday week in waterville

I think a few older lads donned the boots for a game or two so they could keep their status. As far as im aware, 4 or 5 maybe went to Dromid for 2 years. Im fairly sure Valentia are fielding a team next year and those lads are returning. It would be a shame for the club to finish up, they have a huge history and tradition and produced many fine players down through the years. However what happened to them is the reality of rural living in many parts of Ireland

I see the poor ole sk board had to start a gofundme to fund a streaming service for the game. I would have though they had some pretty decent gates so far that would have paid for it The bookies have Skellig Rangers as favorites and thats probably about right based on the games so far. The forecast is fairly poor too so it might be a case of who adapts best to the conditions. Dromids 6th final in a row so maybe that experience will stand to them. A hard one to call, I wouldnt rule out a replay

Now of course our gate men here are of the highest probity but one would have thought/hoped that we had moved on from that hillbilly way of doing things and implement some form of accountability/traceability .

Its much the same here. There have been crowds of 4 or 500 at a few games this year, at a tenner a head there has to have been some decent money collected. Tomorrow im assuming it will be €15 entry. On saying that, most of the last 6 or 7 finals have made for tremendous viewing so ive no issue handing over the money, hopefully more of the same tomorrow Portmagee will be out in full force tomorrow, it will be unusual not having the Marys in the decider for a change

True! Actually you got me thinking of a funny story a few years ago and a true one. A fbd game fixed in Connaught between Mayo and Sligo (I think) was called off just before throw in due to snow. The crowd had paid cash at the gate. There was nt enough money to refund the fans so they were told they could get in free the next time. Money had gone missing in that short space of time. Jez, I remember that, not it not an actual National League game? I'd swear Dublin were actually involved.. Vets right though, no tickets in NK unless its the final, all other matches a nod and wink might even do, even for a blow in like myself... now that's acceptance right there. 😁

I braved the elements yesterday to watch Dromid deservedly win in extremely tough conditions.Niall O shea Dromid was the star man and the win capped off a Brillant year for Kerry star Graham O Sullivan .Commiserations to Skellig who prob left to much to do when playing against the elements in the first half,
