Listowel Tarbert Desmonds Brosna Agree with that, think Knock may rattle Listowel, but the game vs Senans may bring them on.

Minor Division one semi finals this Monday.
Tarbert v Ballyduff, I fancy Ballyduff, just about.
Listowel v Moyvane, the two best minor teams in NK, the majority of the NK County Championship winning panel will be on view here. It took ET to separate these two in the league final and even then only by 1 point. This should be a cracker. Impossible to call.

Listowel 1-11 Knocknagoshel 1-8 1-8 HT 1-5 1-5
Charles Stewart Parnell is reputed to have exhorted Knocknagoshel thus, "arise Knocknagoshel and take your place among the nations of the earth". There is no record of him exhorting Knocknagoshel to ensure timely submission of a team line out for the North Kerry Championship. If he did, he was rebuffed because there was a blank page in the match programme where their team line up should have been. To compound the misery of onlookers there was no functioning PA system in Moyvane. Sink or swim time for hapless spectators. Indeed, swim is an appropriate word because for twenty five minutes of the opening half we were treated to a monsoon. Thankfully, the rain did not resume until after the match. In spite of that monsoon, the players gave us an opening half of reasonable quality. Paradoxically, the standard deteriorated in the second half when the rain had moved away.
Listowel were comfortable at the start and towards the end but there were times in between when there was a possibility of an unexpected death. Listowel got off to a dream start, an early instance of trick or treat. The treat was wayward play at the back by Knock and Cormac Mulvihill was the trickster, calmly slotting home. Sean Keane from a free, Darragh Lynch from play and again Sean Keane, this time a great effort from play, after a pass from the trick man, Cormac. Knock shook themselves with points from a free and from play but still it looked in those initial stages that thy were paying little heed to Parnell's admonition, in any shape or form. Then they conjured a goal which was to keep them seriously in the game until the late flourish by Listowel. Again, the goal was of the trick or treat variety. Messy play at the back by Listowel resulted in dispossession with the ball being slung across the goal by Knock and palmed home by number thirteen. I have no name for that trickster, but he was a small, tidy man who played with intent all through. It was tit for tat thereafter with Edmund Walsh converting two marvellous frees for Knock. He played well on the forty as did his brother James at CHB. I was able to recognise those two buckos. Impressive wing forward, Jack Mcelligott, kicked two from play for Listowel. Strangely enough he was switched to the backs for the second half.
The second half was of the pedestrian variety with uncertainty about the outcome being the main focus of attention. Impressive Listowel sub, Cathel Keane, opened the scoring eventually. Number seven replied for Knock and at this stage their followers got very vocal with the smell of an unexpected victory in their nostrils. Points were subsequently scored by Darragh Lynch(play), James Walsh(play}, Edmund Walsh(free) and Sean Keane (free). Level then. Jammie McVeigh(nephew of Tim Kennelly I believe) came on as a sub for Listowel. A crucial substitution. He launched over a great point . Darragh Lynch struck over an equally impressive long range one. Knock now needed a goal and came a hunting. However, the Listowel rear guard was resolute with Eddie Browne the fulcrum all through. A Listowel kick out was plucked from those dark ,ominous clouds by Jamie McVeigh. Jamie took off like a scalded cat and was felled about thirty five metres out by the Knock defence who knew the game was up at his stage. Sean Keane converted to make it three up and time to bolt for the hills before the next monsoon took its toll. Just made it safely to the car in time.

Veteran's report pretty much covers it, as usual. For sure, Emmets won't frighten any of the remaining contenders with that performance. Started well, kicking in quick ball which worked a treat and the early scores suggested a comfortable victory might be on the cards. However, for the next 40 minutes or so, they got sucked into pass-the-parcel stuff with the score-rate dropping dramatically.
Knock, who had the upper hand in midfield, dominated possession for much of the second half but kicked a raft of wides which took its toll eventually. At the same time, Listowel started to run the bench to telling effect, Jamie McVeigh in particular making a difference. Knock didn't seem to have much in reserve; I think they only had about 18 togged altogether. That, with the fact that they had no line-up listed, suggests they were maybe scrambling around for players beforehand. In any case, they battled gamely and, with a bit more accuracy, could have won the day. As it was, Emmets finished the stronger, kicking the last three points to scrape home.

My auld sesquipedalian pal Veteran calls it fairly, save the pass-the-parcel stuff and which I am told also played out here in Dhún na nGall with my beloved St Eunans going defensive when trailing and attacking when leading. Someone mentioned 50 passes so did it cost Rory Kavanagh the big job and which would be believable given it cost 'em vs Derry? Even neutrals were incensed, nearly that way myself at the thought of it, moreover as Rory and Lacey looked the dream ticket. BTW I just came across JackO's book again, Keys to The Kingdom - anyone have a one line review from what you can recall; I'm going to have another read and has there been water under the bridge - I sense hindsight will be a wonderful thing here though the browse I just had suggests otherwise, very otherwise if ya with me!

At this stage, there has to be a question mark over pitches for the weekend. Some amount of rain falling in the past 7 days. Flogging again in NK this afternoon.

Yes Southward, but they are moving and minding fields, the minor semi finals were all moved.
I believe today's Dev. Squad sessions were moved from Duagh to Knockanure.
I think pitches like Knockanure and Cloinmacon should be utilised even more for underage games and squads this time of year.

Would it be worthwhile for the NK board to get there own pitch? Could be used for development squads and districts? Would potentially lighten the load on other facilities.

They use Knockanure quite a lot which is one of the best fields in NK and very central.

Was on a Nk pitch today myself and it was in perfect condition. Nk pitches are up there with the best in Ireland, between natural drainage and works done by the clubs over the years.

Easy win for Tarbert, along the lines of 1-15 To 0-05... Intended to write a report on the game but I appear to have lost match programme containing a few notes. As far as I can recall , the score was as you suggest. A facile victory for Tarbert. 0-6 to 0-1 at half time I think, Duagh did win a lot of possession but had very little punch up front . Tarbert had it sewn up even before they got their goal in the second half.

Castleisland 1-13 0-05 Finuge Looks like a trip to Duagh this evening so.. this should be the closest of the three quarter finals to join Listowel, C'island and Tarbert.

The North Kerry Board is appalling when it comes to announcing dates , times and venues for matches. Castleisland were supposed to be playing Finuge in Duagh today. On my way out of Ballylongford yesterday a man told me the match in fact was played yesterday. The same man told me that the Brosna /Beale match is staged for Moyvane today even though in the match programme yesterday it stated that it is being played in Duagh? I listened to Radio Kerry at 1pm today for clarification, not a word from the North Kerry. Board. A great way to entice patrons to a match. So, where does a man go today- Duagh or Moyvane? I will place my trust in that man I met in Bally yesterday and head for Moyvane.

If it’s any consolation Vet, I went to watch Brosna and Beale in Listowel, as like you, I was ‘reliably’ informed that the game was moved to Listowel… like you.. I faced a closed gate. Been since told Beale 0-10 0-12 Brosna. The div one minor final too was moved from Knockanure to Asdee… so ya agree, great advertising Seen too that the semi final draw is Tarbert vs Castleisland and Listowel vs Brosna.

Ridiculous stuff by NKB but nothing new. The game was originally set for Listowel afaik. Tried to find out this morning if/where it was on - nothing! With all the available media technology, it's insane that it seems to be word of mouth as to where a game is on. You'd swear they didn't want people going.

Is this the nk board fault though? Game was fixed for Duagh and went ahead there no? that's true but as the finuge game was changed (with no notice given) and underage games moved then a simple media confirmation of all games would not be too much to expect. Kerry radio and a FB post maybe. Plenty officers available on match days with the paw out. Really interesting draw though. Desmonds still hard to see past but it finally looks to be getting interesting.

Could somebody not have got on to Radio Kerry to confirm the details of this match. Radio Kerry had details of South Kerry fixtures etc on the one o’clock news today . Presumably they are reliant on information from the district boards. Not a peek from the NKB. They have form here. I remember some years ago going to Tarbert for a match to be told on arrival that it had been switched to Ballybunion. Perhaps somebody could tell the dinosaurs on the NKB that communications have moved away from the carrier pigeon on to the information highway.

Whats the take on the two semi finals. Brosna and Emmets will be close imo. Listowel just to shade it. Desmonds and Tarbert will depend on how serious Desmonds are taking this year NK champ. What kind of teams they putting out? aint seen a program from any of their matches thus far. Tarbert faltering in recent weeks after decent year and as always will be hard to beat. Two good semis in store tho.

Ah look, Castleisland are a team that will always be there or there abouts every year if they put their mind to it. At the moment there are very strong in most areas of the field and would take a serious off day by them to he caught.
Tarbert aren't bad and will put it up to them, but still I can't see them taking the Desmonds lads.
The other semi is probably the closer of the two to call, Brosna blow hot and cold, they were in a final recently enough when Senans beat them in Bally.
Brosna have won County, Munster and All Ireland Junior but never tasted NK C'ship success. They will go in as underdogs to Listowel, on form it would appear to be heading towards an Emmetts and Desmonds final imo.
