White, Begley, Diarmuid, Dara and Paudie were the main culprits for turnovers from my vantage point. If Jack Barry is fit - and I dont know his ailmemt - he will displace Diarmuid at midfield as he has firm versus Fenton and he has a better physical presence. Diarmuid may displace Dara at wing forward.

Just in the door. All I will say tonight is that we are still alive due mainly to Mayo’s ineptitude.

I have a good few Mayo pals and they were very pessimistic all week in the build up. I didn't believe them. I expected more from them but they are really missing the influence of Ryan O Donoghue and Tommy Cúl up front.
They were shocking in the forwards. Once we got a couple of points up in the second half we were chipping off scores and at one stage I said to my youngfella "how did we get 5 points up". Mayo let us. That was the worst attended match by those fanatical Mayo people. I think they had lost faith and so did their players.

The conditions today did not help and may even have helped keep Mayo in the game - Kerry got over a potential banana skin with a performance that will not cause any hype going into a semi final. David Moran came through a (full) heavy game and this can only be good for Kerry. I would hope Barry and Spillane are challenging for places for the SF as the panel strength may well be tested in that outing. We were all concerned at the lack of a testing match and the four week layoff - this game will stand to us and its all to play for in two weeks time. There is plenty to improve on and this is probably the best we could have hoped for from today in reality - a 20 point victory would have been useless to us and even though Mayo gave us a game I was never unduly concerned throughout the game as I felt we were in control and had the beating of Mayo at all times.

Gavin white's decision making was poor again today. As someone else said he seems to think he can just run thru players. I think we will need both Adrian Spillane and Jack Barry in harness to beat the Dubs.
Another poor game by Paudie in Croke Park. I think he could be under pressure for his place if Spillane and Barry are back and Jack sends Doc to wing forward.

Colm Keys made this analogy in relation to Mayo's challenge and their forward play in particular: "It had the feel of a drunk swinging punches in a late night bar as the bouncers calmly ushered them off the premises."

If Mayo had Donughue and Conroy today then maybe they could have given Kerry some game. But once they hit the Kerry 50 they were lost. Kerry had a few passengers today none more than DOC. He's been given enough of chances and it's time to try somebody new. Barry has always performed against Fenton so if fit then him and Moran to start. Adrian and SOB as well. Paudie was man marked today so he deserves to start. When you're man marked it's hard to influence the game but then other players have to stand up. That's where some players today went missing.

Job done, as expected, but an error ridden game from kerry perspective, turn overs, way too many, you would severely be punished by better opposition. The form of some players is concerning with only 2 weeks to dublin game, but the one legged DC steadied the ship.
Mayo were a point behind in the 50 minute and looked like they were ready to take control of the game, with turnovers and dominating in most parts of the field, but the shooting by mayo was a big let down for them, with an opportunity to ask questions of kerry, they let us off the hook. Well done to kerry team and management, job done with work to do. B-

I watched both games from the couch after an early, and dry, eve.
Firstly, we won and while it was bloodless, you can only beat what's before you and Mayo uncharacteristically didn't provoke us into performing; yes, we started slow but hey 4 weeks!
'Bloody Bloodless' sums up the day and I felt our anticlimax game almost passed me by.
I think we are being hard on ourselves here - all 3 on TSG went for Derry vs us in the final.
So well done to our boys today, played in poor conditions and the delay also threw both teams.
If anyone is due a kick in the ass it is the GAA for having teams go down the same tunnel at intervals - here are 30 blue blooded, psyched-up hoors and we expect them to be 'mannerly pedestrians' and form an orderly queue, and the non-players were the worst as they hadn't expended any energy.
While different geographies have contrasting cultures, things that irk Ulster teams mightn't bother others and visa versa, and this shouldn't escape the GAA. I am not at all surprised with what happened and I think the GAA must take this into consideration - and red carding those who tried to stop it was so pathetic.
Davy Fitz was on radio of a Saturday a few years back when there was talk of ructions within panels and he explained it like that - hopefully the GAA swallow a bit of their own pride here.
And well done to the Tribes and Orchards for an amazing spectacle - proves that pairing teams of the a similar standard is a high priority in structuring competitions. And yes, there should also be replays from QF stage. The 4 week absence is also a sick joke - if you want the best attendances then create the right conditions.
Nothing I am saying is new, or indeed rocket science.
Likewise I don't think the Rebels brought out the best in the Dubs and while it is all to play for, I think we have the beating of any team if we turn up on the day.
Condolences to Mayo, ah missing key players didn't help but in fairness I think they'd have just drove us on more.
And please please, don't forget to say at the outset on comments whether you were sat on the Couch or Croker - makes all the difference and ups what others gain from an account, also avoids silly stuff, false conclusions, etc.

Too many games where he goes missing. Well thats 2 Championship games on the trot in Croker - Tyrone and Mayo - where Paudie has gone missing also. I don't care if he was "man marked". He was awol. And not disputing DOC was very poor too. Plenty of other patchy performers too like Dara so a few places will be up for grabs. The way to have it over the next 2 weeks.

Lads for sure some patchy performances, but Jack and his management team seem to stick to the same players and set up where ever possible, don’t expect too many changes for the next day, and for the most parts the subs start around 50 minute, so a very predictable pattern for the dubs to analysis. It has worked for Jack to date, a big fan of consistency.

Congrats to the kingdom. The much better team today. We were finally put out of our misery today. Simply not good enough this year. All the best for the rest of the championship. Class comment and representative of the vast majority of Mayo people. Its a terrible pity that ye didn't get a break or two around 2016 or 2017 from the ref as others seem to get when they are ending a famine. Lee Keegan hung around for a good while afterwards looking around for the last time i expect. It was sad to see. Mayo took part in some of the great contests of the years 2012 to 2017. Mayo knocked out the Dubs in 2012 and 2021. I hope we can emulate you in 2022. Now if only we could kick long range points like Aiden oShea!

When AOS kicked that point and then Stephen Coen kicked another in the first half I thought that it just might be Mayo's day but their old failings came back to haunt them in the second half. It should also be noted that our forwards played very well defensively and limited Mayos best performers.

Wing forward - Stephen and Dara the incumbents - with Adrian and Diarmuid possibly competing for a berth. Jack may opt to keep one of Barry or DoC on bench to offer impetus later in game. Not sure Barry is that type so may be better starting him. No doubt Jack will want a lift from the bench for the last quarter so would expect Murphy, a midfielder, Wing forward, K Spillane, perhaps and Crowley maybe to see game time in the 2nd half depending how the game is going.

ideal stuff to be honest-win, with stuff to do and plenty learned. never surprising to come on here and seen the usual over negative attitude, just dont get it. we were comfortable all day and full value for the big win.
onwards we go

Are Kerry better than they were this time 12 months ago?
I'm not sure they are.
I was disappointed by the way they let Mayo manage the period when Aidan O Shea was black carded.
We let Mayo get an awful lot of shots off with no pressure on. Same in first half v Cork. We got away with yesterday cos of poor execution by Mayo. Not sure Dubs will be so accommodating.
The caveat from yesterday was the conditions and the ludicrous delay to the game. These might account for some of the poor fare we saw.

only disappointing aspect for me yesterday, was the poor kerry attendance - its been low during the years, but honestly it felt like we had no more than 1000 people (if even that) there yesterday. that said, Mayo support was extremely poor too so maybe a sign of the times.
i guess its easy for me to say based in Dublin, but people need to make a huge effort and get to the semi final and support this team, we wont beat Dublin without a huge support behind us. while times are expensive, likewise alot of people didnt have any games to attend since 2019 apart from Tyrone and that wasnt exactly a huge crowd either.
nothing beats being there.

Kerry deserved winners yesterday, we had the chances to put ye to the pin of your collars early in the second half but we just didn't take them. Even allowing for injuries, there were some easy chances that we should have taken to make the game a bit closer so that was disappointing after a decent first half display (and as someone mention, 2 v good points from AOS & Coen). D Moran & D Clifford were both superb.
Good luck in the rest of the championship, I'd have ye slight favourites against the Dubs but it could come down to the fitness (or otherwise) of DC and Con - if one is out and the other plays, it tilts the balance massively.

Overall it was an underwhelming Kerry performance whether due to the 4 week break, lack of any real contest to date or the conditions - Mayo were terrible in front of the posts and their 4 point return from 16 attempts in the second half summed up their day.
We have problems of our own especially in the half forward line and a conundrum in the middle of the field - Moran starts for me all day with Jack Barry to partner him for the semi final - Diarmuid O'Connor was poor yesterday and lucky to stay on the pitch as he could easily have seen black or a 2nd yellow for a foot trip on a Mayo player - I would still start him against the Dubs but in the half forward line - Dara Moynihan also struggled not surprising given his recent injuries/absence - think he will lose out when the starting XV is announced in two weeks time - Jack will not make too many changes but we should be much sharper and will need to be next time out.
On yesterday's game thought Gough was very harsh on us in the 2nd half and blatant fouls were let go - Cillian O'Connor's " tackle" on Diarmuid was a red card as it was dangerous - its a sending off offence in rugby, should have seen red here also.
Galway/Armagh was a cracking contest from the word go - Galway were good, coming back from 0-7 to 0-4 to be level at half time and then kicking on in the second half - they will be relieved to have gotten over the line eventually when looking to have blown it when four ahead and a man up with less than five minutes to go.
The fracas was unseemly and happened directly in front of me - it started with Comer and Forker with a little bit of shoving and verbals - a few more Armagh players then got involved and the crowd suddenly swelled with a lot of barging and shoulders - the actions of the Armagh guy, not a player who attempted an eye gouge on Comer should see him banned for a while - 2 other things _ !. Star was one of the first on the scene and did his best to usher Armagh players to the dressing room, 2. How did ref single out two players and issue them with red cards? In fairness to Galway's Kelly he was acting as the peacemaker and called out the Armagh guy for the eye gouge.
Finally, in relation to the penalty shoot out do we count points or is it only goals as in soccer?

Our achilles heel for a long long time has been our defence. Not necessarily the players themselves but the lack of structure we had. We're unrecognisable in this regard in 2022 in both the league campaign and the championship to date. If we can continue preventing teams from scoring goals against us I'd back us to outscore any other team in the country (including Dublin). DOC was quiet yesterday but I fully expect him to bounce back. He's all the attributes to play well in Croker and repositioning him on the 40 could be the solution. Our full back line were outstanding again yesterday and Morley is playing the sweeper role superbly. Roll on two weeks time!

I understand that the two players were sent off as the captains. Make of that what you will. Fine in hindsight but Paul Rouse said Coldrick shouldn't have done anything and let one of the Cs handle it.
I think points should count in penalty shootout. A more interesting dynamic... but fairly certain only goals count.

Yesterday I think Galway came off worse from that decision as Sean Kelly was doing a great job on Rian O’Neill while Armagh would have had forwards on the bench to replace Nugent.

As one of the 1000 or so kerry fans there yesterday here are my thoughts for whatever they are worth. The delay to the game coupled with the atmosphere leaving up the m1 with the 40000 armagh supporters made for a very flat game the torrential rain at times also made it very tricky and cagey. Basically yesterday was a defenders day wet ball made handling very tricky and getting aby sort of pressure on a man made turnovers likely this along with a lot of lads running down blind alleys hurt us a lot. Positives 1. Full backline and morley to a man were excellent tom sull back to his best. The corner backs scored 4 very unlucky not to be 5 versus 3 from play to their direct opponents. Graham was a revelation to me he was fantastic 2.moran enough said collosus 2 points and lasted 70 what a man 3. Geaney bad goal miss aside was excellent 4.workrate of o shea and o brien really helped keep mayos halfbacks honest 5. Sideline jack made the right subs at right time ( o connor maybe couldve come on ten mins earlier) all contributed well especially joe o connor the wailing and crying pre game about those lads was unwarranted i feel who has better options than murphy, crowley, joe o connor, brosnan, burns, spillane? And thats without barry and the other spillane Negatives 1. Docs form needs to kick on he has the talent 2.need more scores from forwards outside of clifford and geaney having said that our fowards worked like dogs and mayos defenders didnt trouble scoreboard as much as usual 1 point from mcloughlin. If before the game you said mullins, durcan, keegan diarmuid o connor wouldnt score you would be fairly happy. 3. Over reliance on david jesus we are flogging him badly at this stage shouldve taken him off earlier 4.some players still running down blind alleys 5.paudie had a tough day with keegan on him i didnt feel he was as bad as others here tbh but maybe tv shows it differently. 6. We were just flat for first half very little zip about us 4 week gap, weather delay all contributed and you would imagine this game will stand to us big time dublin are the ones coming in cold here so no excuses in a full croke park vs them ! 7. Lack of supporters i know all the valid mitagints but still i was embarrassed yesterday was there ever a team of whom so much is demanded of ie an 8 point win against a team that has made last two all ireland finals is seen as not good enough by supporters who themselves give so little id say armagh had 40000 near enough there yesterday galway 15 plus mayo slighly less and we had honestly it felt like 1000 maybe 2000

Support yesterday was pathetic.
