As a young lad growing up many gaa people said you build your team by making it strong up the middle in particular. No 3.No 6. No 8.and 9. NO. 11 and No. 14. Name a man that played senior championship in all these pivotal positions. Now I'm just going on my memory which is really 75 to today. There might be one or two before 75 I don't know but to my knowledge there is only one since. Can you name him? Tactically there is no player that would be a at home in all those positions so some manager was either badly stuck or wildly experimental. There are a handful of players that it could be Sean Walsh, Jack O'Shea, John O'Keeffe, Liam Higgins, Paudie Lynch, and possibly Tommy Griffin.

Did Paidi ever play fullback for Kerry. He was playing great football at fullback for the club towards the end of his career and there was a suggestion that he would play fullback for Kerry but i cant recall if it happened for a while.

Also played full, centre and mud field, did he ever play on the 40?

Aodhan had better watch out , his mastermind crown is in jeopardy. Good guess by Peanuts. That match was played in Tralee, strange venue for a semifinal against Antrim. It would have been circa 1975/1976. Kerry won. In any case Gerry was playing on the forty being marked by Paidi O’Se. My memory is that rarely before or after did I see Paidi being so stretched by an opponent. Subsequently, Gerry famously got a goal for NI l in the World Cup against Spain.

I do remember that game - strange that Kerry had home venue - but Armstrong was outstanding that day - very strong in the air with pace & strength.

I heard a great question in a pub a good few years back. It was name all ireland senior winners whose Surnames were the names of fish. I think there was 5 if I recall but unfortunately I can only remember 3 surnames. If anyone wants a go I know 3. Liam Sammon. Martin Codd, Derek Lyng & Mick Roche - getting a fifth will be tough!

This thread will never end, well hopefully!
Anyway here's my tuppence worth - what county did Tim 'Horse' Kennelly at CHB score a blinder of a point against of a day? An amazing angle, off the instep, the wind was a help, both sets of supporters were dumbfounded, speechless!

I could be mixing things up now but i think Borg and McEnroe played one of their immortal wimbledon finals on the previous day...i remember watching it in a bar in Cork. Would a league final ever be on in June though...maybe a replay.

The NK championship club teams for example.... i would be interested in seeing what people think in the best team from that that they have seen...
Similarly..the West Kerry championship selection
And the South Kerry
And so on.
Give Tralee the status of a Division for this purpose.
Assume all club players are available for selection
Also...the best Kerry 15 on hurling that you have seen

I forgot to fully answer the Kerry seniors not wearing Green and Gold while winning an All-Ireland question.
Technically its happened the four times, and the first was in 1905 for the 1903 All Ireland. As you may know officially Kerry were being represented by the Tralee Mitchels but it was actually a county selection - by that stage many counties had dispensed with the club champions rule and were picking all county 15, Kildare did likewise in those games.
Anyway Kerry played in Green and Yellow (the then Mitchels colours) in those three games v Kildare. However technically by beating Kildare they only won the 'home' All Ireland. To try an improve Gaelic Games in London the GAA decided for a few years in the 1900s to let London play the winners of the 'home' All Ireland in hurling and football and the winner of that match 'officially' won the title.
Kerry duly played the London footballers towards the end of 1905 and the newspaper reports state clearly Kerry wore red and green jerseys so reasons I've never seen explained.
Following our All Ireland anyway the Kerry CB decided to officially register Kerry's colours as green with a gold hoop to commemorate our maiden football title and we've been the green and gold ever since.

So Kerry And I think the winner is .... Aodhan! Maurice Fitzgerald breaking the leg may have reminded me of this one. Marty on The Late Late flagged the quiet latter half of the year so this thread will be even more appreciated. It is such a pity that people don't talk much anymore and a lot of stuff will be lost. Still the more stuff on here the more that will be dredged up and the quality is awesome, all time best thread ever! .

Barney Rock got an equaliser and winning goal v Cork in a league semi final. Why is the game remembered? Oh it was truly amazing. I don't remember his equaliser but Cork wanted a replay and the gaa said extra time. Cork headed for the train and Dublin came onto pitch alone. Ref threw in the ball (only Dublin on the field). Ball was caught kicked into Barney Rock and he kicked it into an empty net. Game over and Dublin win. Why is game over? Because there s no Goalie to kick out the ball so game finishes. Dubs win and Cork knocked out. A crazy situation..Yotally bizarre. For anyone that can't remember I'm sure you can get it on YouTube. I wonder what would have happened if they had somehow managed to put the ball wide?

Three clubs in Kerry that have never had an All-Ireland SFC medal winner? I would say there's more than three. Has anyone from Brosna won one? St. Senans as well? In fact have either really had too many who played senior championship? Listry and Fossa wouldn't have any either. Although all going well that'll soon change with Fossa. Ardfert and Ballyduff wouldn't have any either AFAIK. Do you include Clounmacon in it? According to the Terrese Talk website Bsllymac have at least one medal winner from the 20s.

Ciaran Duff got a crucial goal for Dublin. I remember having a plumber out to the house the following morning - a Dub and he was sure that Dublin would win the 1987 All Ireland...he was ecstatic. Kerry are gone he said. He was right about that but he underestimated Meath and Cork.
