Would the Boyles from Ballyduff have a similar claim in recent times? Not sure if they are all brothers but Liam, Mikey and Padraig all played minor if I am not mistaken? Yes KerrryeastcoastUSA, all brothers and you can add Kenneth, the eldest and obviously the first Kerry minor of the four. Mikey’s son expected to carry on the tradition this year. An amazing family, hurling, football, soccer and a bit of boxing. One of the best Kerry hurlers ever is their uncle, what is his name? Very talented family indeed

Darragh and Marc ó Sé munster final 08 and Derry and Thorny Shea (not sure what year but will guess 60s Spot on Mick. 1965 against Galway was the year Thorny and Derry were sent off. Thorny and Derry of course were members of that supreme John Mitchells side who were invincible for several years. Did Thorny stick his finger in ref's eye? BTW 'Thorny' used to deliver ice cream to our shop when I was a garsún, he was a real character - I met him in later years and the crack was mighty, he was telling me stories about all the shops in his round, like being haunted by a loveable ghost, always thought it was his real name - was it John? May they all RIP.

This Kerry footballer won an All-Ireland minor medal in 1962. He was subsequently added to the substitutes list for the senior final . Kerry won that senior final as well but I am not sure if this man got a senior medal that day. He did win his senior medal later on. Seamus McGearailt? Did that not also happen with Galway too? Just rings a bell but I have no detail whatsoever.

Was in goals for that minor final and won a senior medal at corner back in 1969. Denis won minor medals in 1962 and 1963 and U21 in 1964 but unfortunately did not win a senior medal. May have won a junior medal also.

I dont know the answer but didnt some player who was in a seminary sneak out and play in a final under a false name. I think it might have been a Kerry player.

Eamon Fitzgerald represented Ireland in the LA Olympics in 1932 in the long jump. He actually badly injured his ankle training just before it started but still came fourth and it was just his misfortune the standard in that particular Olympics was so high, because the length of his jump would have achieved gold in almost every one of the previous Olympiad!
Mundy Prendeville jumped over the seminary wall to line out for Kerry for the 1924 All Ireland and he later become Bishop of Perth.

Donnie O’Sullivan had played in the 1962 championship but missed the final because he had gone back to the seminary. I wonder did he get a medal that year?

As regards the minor achievements of the Keane lads, I think five members of the Kennelly family from Ballylongford played minor football for Kerry: Colm, Brendan, Alan , John, Paddy. Brendan being the poet of course.

I was expecting a much more folksy answer. Charlie Nelligan was the player I had in mind. Charlie went to college in Dublin in the late 70's and played soccer in the LOI with Home Farm. At that time the LOI was semi-professional but Home Farm was an exception and was an amateur club. At that time also the Olympics were 100% amateur. The OCI announced a squad to go into the qualifiers for the 1980 Olympics and Charlie was picked in goals. If I remember correctly Charlie withdrew from that squad and anyway the team never took part due to lack of funds.
