I want to pose a new question;
Can anyone explain the tremendous success in the All Ireland Club Competitions of the three Clubs, Beaufort, Kilcummin and Dr. Crokes (so far) and not forgetting The Sem., (who are motoring well again this year). It must be some kind of record due to their close proximity and such a relatively small region - probably a radius of eight to ten miles. And even half of that again excluded by virtue of mountains and lakes.
I suggest that it would be true to say that this success is highly correlated to issues of emigration/employment/tradition etc., advantages that quietly accumulate into real differences. In any case, the families, the schools, the clubs and coaches who have produced these players deserve great credit. Hopefully, all of this success will have a ripple effect that goes all the way to the future generations around Beauty’s Home

I wouldn’t advocate increasing the numbers of senior teams though. We had 11 a good few years ago and teams were just staying up by winning one game and getting well beaten by the stronger teams. Having only 8 senior teams also keeps the divisions strong. The only way they might change it is if the premier Junior team goes forward as intermediate winners, and the junior goes into the junior championship. The intermediate championship would then be a competition for just kerry and promotion to senior

To me the success of Kerry clubs is due to its structure with a county league, county championship, club championship and divisional championships. Would a player from a junior club like Fossa, Cromane, Templenoe or Beaufort make the senior team in another county without that divisional structure? Having players from junior clubs play in the senior championship with their divisional teams means they catch the eye of selectors and they get a chance to shine against senior teams.That, to me at least, is the key to Kerry success.

I wouldn't advocate us increasing the number of senior clubs either. But it amazes me, and has for quite a while, that other counties don't copy us and decrease theirs. I know that Dublin did decrease theirs, but from 32 to 16 - Kilcummin are our 9th best club team. I know there are difficulties with divisional teams, but I think the benefits far outweigh them. On a separate note and just as an observation, its even more beneficial at inter-county junior than senior.

Yet Oranmore-Maree won the All Ireland Intermediate hurling this year. It helped that they have Niall Burke and Gearoid McInerney but it's still some achievement for arguably Galways 25th best team.
