Kerry gold, Have to say if we beat Kildare by the required and if Galway do the business in Salthill I will be more than excited facing the Dubs. We will be coming in at the exact altitude required to catch them a little unprepared. The Dubs to their credit will play football all day long and so will we, thing is that this team is built for a speed track and not the mountain stages of a Monaghan or Galway setup. For this reason I can see Kerry asking questions of the Dubs hat they simply won’t be able to answer on Saturday week, it has the potential to be the perfect storm. If Galway give us the opportunity to shine I’m convinced we will blind It will be very interesting, if a meeting between Dublin and Kerry comes to pass, nothing can be ruled out . I wouldn't have expected Kerry to have 1 point in a group with Galway , Kildare and Monaghon . I still fell they have the potential to shock and they certainly have the potential to put it up to Dublin. I suppose the question is does EF go defacto cautious when games look like they could be tough . Is it win at all costs, or win in a certain way. Feeling I get is he is caught between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand Kerry people say we dont expect to compete for a year or two because young lads have to be blooded. Then it's a case of sorry you are useless as a manager you have to go, we want to win every game. The comments straight after the Cork victory by posters and what the same posters are saying now about the same management and the same team is embarrassing to say the least. It has to be said and I've noticed it by time frames, a serious amount of guys on this forum don't travel to support their county. It's nearly proclaimed a pilgrimage by the ones that do. Yet will constantly give out about fixture times. A county that prides itself of being proud of the jersey , I'm constantly told that when a Kerry guy puts on a jersey he feels 10 foot taller, I'm sorry and I'm conscious that I'm on a Kerry forum but when that Kerry guy who gives everything turns around and constantly see's an empty stadium , what goes through his head. If 10% of the population travel 4 hours to Dublin for a semi final then that’s 13,000 Kerry fans. Dublin couldn’t get that number (which would be less than 1% of the population) to travel 2 hours to Omagh. It’s not feasible with the cost associated with travelling to and staying in Dublin to continue having all matches there as people just can’t afford it anymore. Always wonder how the Dubs can never understand the cost element to Kerry fans of all these things. As Mick said- if you live in Dublin then you can hop on a bus an hour before the game, pay roughly 3 quid and be at croker, you can be home and fed an hour after it too!

joxer... the problem with a half forward line of Burns, Murphy and SOB is lack of height under kickouts from both the opposition keeper and our own.
Cluxton would love that half forward line.

Limerick had 5 of last years under 21s on starting yesterday. Yet the team performed like a well oiled machine. Quaids lazer puckout to a green jersey. The diagonal ball to the cornerforward. The two Cork cornerbacks were run ragged. You're spot on there MickMack. In terms of our own young players in Kerry, they all stepped up to the mark last week against Monaghan. Our problem isn't with youth (although maybe the solution is to bring in more!...even at this late stage of the Championship). Our older guys don't appear to have the hunger and are playing well below their capabilities. Their leadership skills are necessary now (no better exemplified by KDs contribution in Clones all over the pitch). KD was the exception though. Mark Griffin brings some of that needed leadership also when released from man-marking duties. I don't know what the situation injury-wise is with Tadhg Morley....it looked to me in Clones as if there was no chance of him coming on given his non-participation in the more combative elements of the warm-up. That being the case, I'm not sure why he was listed on the subs in the first place but.....maybe the relatively absent on field leadership is relevant on this point too. If he is available, I think he walks straight back onto the team, as does Jason Foley. I would also have Gavin Crowley in there for Saturday (possibly/probably our last outing in this Championship). I would also revert to Shane Murphy in goal, accepting the 'possibility' that he was carrying an injury and that's now cleared up. In terms of the backs, I'd go with... Shane Murphy Jason Foley, Tadhg Morley, Tom O'Sullivan Gavin Crowley, Mark Griffin, Gavin White At the risk of drawing the ire of some of our contributors on here, I'd move Paul Murphy back to centre forward!...and go with a half-forward line of Miceal Burns, Paul Murphy and Stephen O'Brien The full-forward line picks itself I think with David Clifford, Kieran Donaghy and Paul Geaney Midfield needs a change also. David Moran is still, imho, our best option here and has to start. While I'd like to see a curve ball in selection of his partner, I think the likelihood of that is close to zero. Our options I guess are Jack Barry, Anthony Maher and Donnacha Walsh. I would likely go for Donnacha (in a reversal of the give youth a chance policy!) and see how we go. I'd like to see some other options on the bench at least though. Are you suggesting that Sean O'Shea should be left out of the starting 15 then? Can't see that happening.

Shane Murphy Shanahan Jason Foley, Tom O'Sullivan
Gavin Crowley, Mark Griffin or Morley Gavin White
Moran and Maher
Paul Murphy Sean o Shea Paul Geaney David Clifford Donaghy James o D
Impact subs SoB, McCarthy, Burns, Young, Jack Barry, Morley or Griffin
I think Geaney could do with a change of position and he provides a priceless option for a kickout...he can fetch over his head as good as the best. No opposition keeper will be landing a kickout in his direction.
Paul Murphys could do with a move too and he is well able to score.

Fair enough, looking back on my post it comes across as condescending. I understand some Kerry Folk make huge sacrifice and Croker can be an expensive journey. also a lot of Dubs don't travel to league and early championship games, I've had this argument out with Dubs also. Just for a county so successful I'm surprised at times at low turnouts. Apologies if I offended anyone that wasn't my intention.

Just the cost is a killer- if you were to travel to the kerry and Galway game in croker with 2 kids: Leave at around 10am and get home prob after midnight. Cost- 70 in petrol, prob 50 or so in tickets, 60 on food, 20 on parking and public transport and those are all bare minimums. Plus you’d prob need to take Monday off work due to being wrecked!

Panther, you're one of the fairest posters on here and I doubt anyone is offended; just having the craic with you. On the general point though, most people have family, financial, work and other commitments and it's simply impossible to get to every game. I know I can't; I'll try to get to all of the home games throughout the year and some, but not all, of the aways. Also, being a successful county means Minor, U20 and Junior games as well, not to mention club matches. I lived in Dublin for years and it was great nipping down to Croker. Different story down here. Even the home games aren't all that handy. Going to Killarney entails either getting there hours before throw-in and hanging around for hours afterwards, or else facing up to 3 hours each way in traffic. Unless you live in the town, there's no such thing as just going to the game and sauntering home again. Tralee is much handier.

Yeah I agree, tickets and diesel are part and parcel of supporting your team. The killer is accommodation and in particular in Dublin as far as we are concerned, we have three kids we save for the semi final and final as we like to make a family event of it. Problem is with these late games it becomes difficult to drive to and from in the one day, I stayed in Dublin last Saturday night and headed straight to Kerry after the Monaghan game but with the required pit stop I didn’t darken my front door until the last few minutes of the day. I had a day off on Monday apart from that there is no way I could have consideeed a game that threw in at 4pm at the other end of the country. It’s unfortunate that the organization is so willing to inconvenience supporters to facilitate viewing rights.

Hope we can get our act together and get a proper warm up done before the Kildare game. Monaghan were out at 3-15 and our lads strolled out 14 minutes before throw in. I think this poor preparation played a factor in Kerry's dismal start to the game

Make it as awkward as possible for Kerry fans with a 5pm start on a saturday evening....if Kerry get there.... and you will have fewer Kerry fans there. lots of Kerry fans always got the train up for a 3.30 start...there is no train to Kerry after a 5pm start. if a game went to extra time it would be 1pm before reaching home. its too late for kids really.

It would be completely illogical for Gavin Crowley to be selected at this stage. Based on the Monaghan game he is not even in the top dozen defenders in the county from a management perspective.

I can't see Peter Crowley dropping out of the 15. He's one of Fitzmaurice's mainstays when fit. Kildare have a big, powerful midfield so Kerry will probably go like for like with Maher or even Donaghy starting ahead of Barry. Impossible to second guess the management though.

no one in their right mind would try to predict what management will do.
Its legitimate to post up a selection based on what one would like to see.

I like the idea of Sean O'Shea at midfield. Brings more focussed energy to that position I think ( Jack should have made it his own by now and still can but needs to think about using the ball intelligently when he gets it and not off-loading to the nearest teammate and if no one is available, running forward in a type of panic...organised chaos I like on a football pitch...not disorganised chaos!). That leaves the half forward line with the issue Mick Mack points out of height. I prefer the combative instincts of Miceal Burns to Kevin McCarthy. I think Miceal is more likely to fight for and win breaking ball. Not to say Kevin couldn't do it but I'm not as confident. Paul Murphy would equally pick up breaking ball. Stephen O'Brien maybe not so much but a great man to turn a break away attack into something significant. Relying on breaks and winning your fair share of clean ball around midfield of course means forcing the opposition goalkeeper to go long every time which means pushing up including on their sweeper.Agame which we have recently looked too flat footed for. It could also mean rotating KD out the field at key moments. I'd like to see Stefan Okunbar on the bench...unlikely to happen and perhaps even 'illogical' but could give us something of a surprise from the bench with capability of changing a game. No one can be sure about the latter part of that but we won't know unless we try. As for illogical, logic has largely got us this far!...nice view isn't it? Losing or drawing on Sat evening and we are out. We may well be out anyway. If its not time for some 'left of field' thinking, when would be? When we're out and bitterly attacking management? Fine if that's what gets you going but me, I'd rather we left some mark on this championship before we hang up the geansai for this season.

Played badly, scoring 1-17 and not losing against a good Monaghan team in Clones. Back to Saturday. I think Kelly will start in goals. The backs depends on the fitness of a few players but I would be very surprised to see Jason Foley and Morley starting. Ronan Shanahan to mark Flynn. Tom Sullivan and Peter Crowley to make up the rest of the full back line. Murphy, Griffin and Gavin White half back line. I think he could start Maher alongside Moran and bring Barry on early in the second half the next day. Burns might start ahead of Kevin Mc. Seanie and O Brien will make up the other two places in the half forward line. I think he'll start with Donaghy on Saturday. Clifford obviously. Toss of a coin between Geaney and James O. Personally I'd nearly bench Geaney the next day.

The Clones result was a Hail Mary conclusion to the game. I presume Daniel Flynn is suspended for this game? I think the current form of the players (last two games) is far more concerning that what ever positional switches/selections they come up at this stage. A team has nothing without form, however form is temporary.
