Having refs like we had in tralee today is actually dangerous for the players involved. It was shocking some of their decisions. Clifford should have walked so should Greg horan Rahillys much better, Moran outstanding but still had few stupid kicks. Barry John Keane good, must have won every ball put into him. This game should calm the clifford insanity, all year he has being like a man in his mid twenties playing minor causing wreck Impressed with west kerry, don't know will they go further though Begley, Tomas o see and eanna o conchuir very good but I thought Alan fitz was mighty

I thought he did well to be fair KG. Not his old self but closer to it than I have seen to this point. Worth keeping an eye on in the semi.

I dismissed it at the time, beginning to wonder now. Gaeltacht flying in the intermediate and the other clubs have player to contribute as well. still cant see past Crokes though

How Greg horan didn't get sent off for his punch was one of the most baffling things I've seen in football. He gave the WK lad an uppercut in what I'll call a sensitive area- directly in front of the ref. A ludicrous thing to do The ref didn't have the balls to send him off.

The antics of the Dr.Crokes line today was inexcusable,Constantly barking at the ref with O'Shea running into the field on numerous occasions screaming "Padraig,Padraig, Do this do that ?!?!?" at half time he gave clear instructions to one of his selectors to stay behind and lambaste the ref as he made way to his dressing room.
Their water carriers were constantly in the ear of the linesmen and intimidated the juvenile waterboys Kenmare had.
This is a Crokes side we were all so proud of on St.Patrick's Day but i don't know why they lower themselves to this thuggish behaviour.

Those lads from Kenmare were too young to be on the sideline in what was a feisty affair. There is no doubt that there is a cynical edge to the Crokes. But what winning team doesn't have it.It needs strong refereeing.

Burns was good for Crokes today kicking 3 points. Was surprised he was taken off. Gavin white very good also. Agree that Crokes are very cynical at times. Alot of fouls stopping Kenmare coming out of defence. Good win for south Kerry without young and Daly and Sheehan going off early. Wharton very impressive at half back.

Thuggish is what Dara Crowley did to Tony Brosnan by body slamming him into the ground and can count himself lucky that he didn't seriously injure him. This was a result of Padraig O Sullivan failing to have a grip on the game. For him to actually turn around and only issue a yellow card for that offence was ridiculous, it was assault. Intimidating waterboys? First of all, the Kenmare waterboys were about 13 maybe 14 and were probably intimidated by the crowd more than anything else....absolute madness by the club having them there. Secondly, did you directly hear Pat O Shea direct his selector to do that because I would highly doubt he said that to one of the selectors, if Pat felt the referee's performance warranted a "lambasting" then he would do it himself. Darragh, Tomas and Marc were notorious for being in the referees ear, likewise with Seamus Moynihan. Declan O Sullivan has influenced referees more than any other player in the county if not the country and he was doing it on the line again yesterday. Unfortunately for us, the standard of refereeing in the county/country in GAA is extremely poor and as a result they don't command the same respect as Rugby and the likes. If you can get an edge by being in the referees ear and maybe influencing an upcoming decision then fair enough, I would rather that than sitting quietly on the sideline. It's called passion and they are contesting decisions they feel they should have got but then again they are all winners and you don't get anything by being the nice guy.

This is nothing new and the guy in question often spends more time on the pitch than the sideline - its unedifying and should be cut short at the earliest opportunity by all refs.

Let's set a few things straight first. I'm not condoning abuse towards a referee, but it has become the norm and it's certainly not only Pat O Shea at this. Declan O Sullivan was at the very same yesterday but posters failed to mention it because he's an icon in the county. Gooch is always in the refs ear. Many of the great players past and present, did or do their utmost to influence a refereeing decision and it does work. I'm all for getting an edge and you can do that with a referee without being abusive. But if you are going to condemn Pat for his actions then condemn all. I find it unedifying that many posters seem to have an agenda when it comes to Crokes. But then again they say you are a victim of your own success.

The main problem here is weak refereeing and an acceptance of intrusions and abuse by officials - and yes it happens in many venues and I think it is particularly problematic at underage where it can be intimidating to younger players. Any mentor who encroaches on the playing field should be removed from the sideline - if this was done the problem would be solved very quickly. Only medical staff should be on the field of play, water should be given at the sideline and should not require any field intrusion. Linesmen (where appointed independently) should be drawing the attention of the referee to any intrusion and I guarantee if this was enforced the problem would disappear overnight. Roaring at the referee is slightly more difficult to deal with but a simple rule that mentors may not approach the referee during a game (including half time) would go some way to sorting this.

Semi Final draw will give two interesting games.
Crokes against a Gaeltacht backboned West Kerry will be a foretaster of the league final in many respects. Crokes will be favourites no doubt but could be a good game.
South Kerry will be out to avenge their round 1 loss to O Rahillys and divisional sides are always better as a competition progresses - difficult one to call but SK probably slight favourites.

I thought the ref did a decent job in the Crokes game. Not sure what the Crokes had a problem with. As a previous poster mentioned Pat O'Shea, after a quick meeting on the side of the field with his backroom team, did point his selector towards the ref at half time. Said selector then headed straight for the ref to confront him before walking nearly the length of the pitch beside the ref in the direction of the dressing rooms. This was a very public lecture right in front of the stand, and there was no need for it.
I think if people have anything against the Crokes, it's to do with their style of football. They have the players with enough talent to play the game the right way, yet they seem intent on winning ugly. Cynical fouling when they don't have the ball, and then this awful backwards and sideways passing game when they get in to a lead anywhere near the end of a game.
You can say it's win at all costs and the end justifies the means, but it leaves me cold anyway.
South Kerry did well to come through without Killian Young and losing Bryan so early. Rathmore didn't show a lot, but then again i thought the same about Dingle in the last round. So maybe South Kerry are just not letting teams play. Matthew Sullivan gave Aidan Mahony his fill of it. Surprised Aidan wasn't moved to midfield, as he was having no influence on the game at full back. Maybe he just doesn't have the legs to be out the field anymore.
Thought Paul Sullivan and especially Rob Wharton were very good in half back line for South Kerry. Brendan Sullivan had some good moments at midfield. Paulie Donoghue and Dan Daly were good too.
Crokes probably favourites overall, but i think they could be 2 close semi finals. Wouldn't rule anyone out.

Crokes probably favourites overall, but i think they could be 2 close semi finals. Wouldn't rule anyone out. Crokes have learned from previous years. In 2012 Crokes lost to Crossmaglen after being up by 7 points and lost previous county finals by failing to close out games. Do you want your team to close the game out or risk the result by being more expansive?? I know my answer. I think you might be reading too much of Mick O Connell. Do we all want to see an open brand of football? Of course we do but if teams insist on retreating and not pressing the ball high up the field then the sensible teams keep the ball. Dublin did it in the All Ireland final. I think Crokes play the game the right way and they tackle hard and work tirelessly for each other but I would hardly brand Crokes cynical. If you believe that Crokes don't play the game the right way and are cynical then fair enough, I disagree or maybe I'm too biased to see. I do agree with most of what you said on the SK v Rathmore game Diego except for Paulie O Donoghue. I thought he was very poor and I was discussing it with 5 or 6 fellas who couldn't believe how far back he had gone. I haven't seen much of him recently so maybe it is just a poor performance. He must have touched the ball no more than 5 or 6 times in the whole game which is a very poor return for a centre for someone playing at 11. John Moynihan was a big loss coming off for Rathmore, he's a big dangerman for them and is always good for a goal or two. Rathmore spurned a few glorious goal chances that may have swung it in their favour but SK probably deserved it. Daniel Daly kicked 4 from play including 2 beautifully executed scores. Rob Wharton was immense. Matthew Sullivan won everything aimed in his direction but often found himself too far from goal to trouble the scoreboard. Brendan Sullivan won a few crucial marks when the game was in the melting pot but was quiet enough in first half.

Sums up the behavior of a lot of clubs in this county unfortuntately, Crokes/Stacks/Ardfert etc It's exactly my point. Do you think it's fair to have young kids on the side line watching the reckless behaviour of some "adults" on the line? I don't, and I don't believe it's any place for a person of that age. These water boys are also being subjected to abuse the same as the referee and officials. Opposition management, supporters and players hurl abuse at them "Get off the f***ing pitch" etc. I don't think the club should have them in a position for this to happen. The harsh reality is this abuse is directed by a big percentage of teams and not just a few. It's a domino effect, if you have young kids doing water boy on the line and seeing the carry on of some management teams then they will eventually follow suit, it becomes the norm and that is why I think that young kids of that age should be nowhere near the line. Mind you, the abuse in the stands can be as bad.

On the Crokes game, I thought Gavin White and Michael Burns were excellent, serious pace with those 2 and a serious scoring threat from half forward. White skinned anyone he ran at, must be a serious option for the NFL, possibly Burns as well if he keeps that up. A regular scoring HF would be very welcome. I thought he scored 4 points but open to correction. Thought the Crokes man on the sideline giving it to the young Kenmare fella was pathetic, real "hard man" stuff. Didn't see the talking to the linesman so can't comment on that. I thought Crokes closed the game out nicely with Gooch much to the fore in the second half after being quiet in the first. It was up to Kenmare to come out and get the scores as they set up very defensively throughout. They did try to do it on the break in fairness but seemed to give the ball away very cheaply in the middle of the pitch on the break over and over in the second half. Sean O'Shea looked lively when involved, scored a cracker in the first half and was very prominent in that half especially. SOB was quiet enough throughout as the ball kept breaking down around MF so difficult for him to get involved the way Kenmare were set up.
I thought Ambrose should've been yellow carded for the high tackle like the 2 or 3 others given for the same offence before he got his black card. Also I thought there was one or two other black cards not given. On the slam dunk, Brosnan was the instigator there as far as I could see but got a serious dumping off the smaller man. Black card minimum for dragging him to the floor surely but a straight red for violent play possibly? It was dangerous whatever the provocation. Ref was unfortunately a bit too inconsistent and quite possibly too lenient at times. Also sure I saw a Kenmare lad throw a punch at the start of the second half when the row kicked off before the ball was even thrown in. I could be wrong and couldn't tell you who it was as there was so much going on!
On the SK game, this was a much better fare as both teams went at it pretty much man for man. I was very impressed with Rob Wharton throughout. Serious pace again, like White skinned his marker every time and played some beautiful foot passes into the forwards. I think he only misplaced one kick and scored one with one wide and let nothing by him defensively. Matthew O'Sullivan as already stated won every ball into him although in the first half was a bit wayward with the distribution, there was a couple of misplaced hand passes after doing all the hard work. He scored 2 crackers in the second half then and works very hard without the ball. Paul Murphy was quiet enough until near the end when he scored a couple of points when it looked like they might reel in SK but SK dug in and pulled away thereafter despite a man being sent off for a second booking. Would agree pretty much with the remainder of the comments on the match. Kept an eye on Mark Griffin and Shane Ryan, thought Griffin had things under control generally from play with 2 or 3 customary lightning breaks out the field. He has serious pace and power. Didn't see enough from Shane Ryan to convince me that he's an option out the field with Kerry bearing in mind the competition he already has there. SK look a good team. Makes for an interesting semi.

Kenmare will probably feel they left a great chance behind them yesterday. The crucial point in the game was in the first half when Kenmare had two great goal chances and scored one point from these chances. The lack of depth in Kenmares panel was also apparent. Their subs all struggled while Crokes could bring on the likes of Brosnan, Ambrose and Clarke who all made decent contributions, especially Tony Brosnan.
Crokes were always hailed as great footballing team but they certainly showed yesterday that they are no shrinking violets. They must have picked up 7 or 8 cards and I recall 4 dangerous head, high tackles. 3 on Stephen O Brien which may not be a coincidence!
From a neutral point of view I'm not sure why the Crokes sideline felt so hard done by in the first half. I must admit I was surprised to see Pat O Shea and Harry O Neill encroach so much onto the pitch. On the incident with Botty and the ref at half time, it was pantomime stuff IMO.
Rathmore were a big disappointment in the 2nd game. South Kerry without needing to play great were comfortable winners. 2 things from this game stood out for me. Mathew O Sullivan won every ball expect one that went in between himself and Aidan Mahony, kicked two good points as well. Shane Ryan, Kerry sub goalie, won every ball (bar none) that went in between himself and Mark Griffin. Food for thought there.

Crokes did have a few high challenges it must be said and Alan O Sullivan should have seen a black card but referee opted for yellow instead. Likewise when the referee opted to give Dara Crowley a yellow for his spearheaded rugby tackle on Tony Brosnan on the terrace side, maybe people didn't see that one!!! There was multiple high challenges in every county championship game this weekend. There was numerous incidents in the Rathmore SK game that have gone without mention. Crokes are not a cynical team lads, they have no pre meditated agenda with trying to take any players out of it, they never have and never will. I have been in involved in dressing rooms and management teams where the focus has always been on the team. Crokes know if they play to their potential that they can beat anyone on their day and would not resort to those tactics. As I said already, they had a number of high challenges yesterday but it is down to poor tackling rather than cynicism.
I actually thought Tony Brosnan was very poor to be honest and if Jordan Kiely was fit then he would have caused much more trouble. The ball failed to stick with Tony and with the amount of space in front of him I thought he should have been doing much more, he did kick two scores but both were given to him when he had little to do but kick it over. Paul Clarke did have a telling contribution and has improved dramatically in the last year to 18 months. Kenmare are a good side and probably don't get enough credit for it. They were extremely unlucky in the club final also.
I didn't see what happened with Botty, Harry etc. on the line but it's not a surprise I have seen them before and they are always vocal. I'm not condoning it, it should not be happening but there are a lot more than just the Crokes management at this.
Matthew O Sullivan also impressed me yesterday, he is some size of a man and you would have to think that Eamonn Fitz will have a look at him this year in the league. Shane Ryan is an outstanding full forward also.

Hugh your argument against having the young water boys is an odd one- essentially you are saying that they shouldn't be there so as to protect them from the abusive and aggressive behaviour of the crokes (adult) management and support.
I'd imagine in that scenario that the issue is not the young water boys
